Diner Reviews
  • "We chose this location for our family dinner on Easter and we were totally blown away. The food was amazing. Our waiter offered great suggestions. Offer to modify anything on the menu as we wanted and offered prompt refills. Sitting next to the window overlooking a wonderful Boston day was a nice touch. The place is pricey, no doubt, but you will walk away stuffed and satisfied."

  • "I met a friend for dinner at this new location and was very happy that we chose this restaurant. Our server was fantastic-helpful, patient, and there when we needed anything. And we were not rushed out--which I really appreciated. "

  • "Split a 48oz porterhouse with my good buddy Eddie. He was brought to gnaw on the bone this thing was so flavorful. S&W has become a routine stop during our annual PAX trip each Spring."

  • "I ate here for Restaurant Week and I would give it a good overall rating..The restaurant is spacious and has a good energy and it is situated in a nice location next to the water. I liked the rosemary scented buns placed on the table. I ordered the salmon and the pea soup. The food was a tad salty but it was good overall. I wasn't too impressed with the chocolate dessert as it was a huge piece and looked liked it was mass-produced. I would consider trying the other location to compare in the future.."

  • "I had the spinach and poached egg salad and it was so soggy. The bacon was very fatty also. Jordan was a great waiter and very knowledgeable. We had carrot cake for dessert and that was just fair. The steaks were good and the hash brown potatoes and the calamari was great."

  • "We frequent all of Boston't top steakhouses. We've decided that Smith & Wollensky is the best of the best. Everything was exquisite. Our waiter was fantastic, the food was incredible, and the portions! We'll be back soon."

  • "Great food, the service was ok. The guy did fine just had no personality which in that kind of restaurant you need. Overall good experience will most likely be back."

  • "Yet another excellent restaurant, this one located between the financial district and the innovation district. Food was delicious and well presented. The wine list had a nice variety of very good, less common wines and the service was just as one would expect from S&W. It all made for a very pleasant evening out."

  • "The fillet was excellent and so were the mashed potatoes and asparagus sides. The swordfish was definitely lacking in portion size for its price. Definitely not ordering again. But it was very tasty."

  • "It was refreshing to have a server that was not concerned about moving us along and turning over his table. His timing was perfect, not overly attentive in a bothersome way, yet providing us with exceptional service. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was completely relaxed. Great night out."

  • "Overall, the experience was pretty positive. I went during Restaurant Week with a friend. He had the filet mignon, I had their butcher burger. Both the entrees were excellent, and one thing I can say for S&W is that the portion sizes are LARGE. No excuse for coming away hungry. The caesar salads were good (and large) too. The one disappointment - and it was major - was dessert. I shouldn't have expected great desserts at a steak house, but these were particularly disappointing. The choices were coconut cake and a chocolate ganache, so we each got something different and tried both. They were both heavy, bland, and disappointing. It's rare for me not to finish dessert, but there was no point in finishing these."

  • "S&W is nice for a special occasion or a business dinner. I took my 24 year old daughter to dinner and we had the standard fare, wine, steak, mashed and chocolate cake. The staff was courteous although the house was very busy. Two things I didn't like was that despite a reservation, we had to wait 1/2 hour for our table and the table that we were given was on a very busy corner. The restaurant was also extremely loud. Next time we will go to the Castle instead of the waterfront locale."

  • "I am not a vegertarian but every now and then my body craves some great red meat. S&W is the place to go. Always a fabulous meal. The steaks are so big that I usually split it with whomever I'm dining. We get a couple of sides, which are huge and substanial. I love their soft buttered bread. I don't drink alcohol so I always get a spicy bloody Mary....so-o-o-o....good. The dessert? What can I say??? Fabulous."

  • "I had restaurant week's menu, my starter was Wollensky's Famous Split Pea Soup with croutons ,it was REALLY good! I would order this soup again! my main dish was Free-Range Chicken, it was a bit salty, I would definitely pass that one next time, the dessert was chocolate cake with fresh whip cream, pretty tasty. restaurant was very nice and the service was very good. I would recommend this restaurant to my friends."

  • "My wife took me here for my birthday. We had a wonderful lunch. She had the Lobster BLT. I had the filet. Both were delicious, nicely proportioned. Our waiter was attentive while not intrusive. The coconut cake was a perfect ending to my birthday lunch."

  • "We had an excellent dinner experience, celebrating my wife's birthday. Everyone was very polite and friendly. They gave my wife a birthday card and everyone who came to the table or even walked by the table said happy birthday to her. We both ordered filets and the meat was cooked perfectly, tender and delicious. We split a salad and whipped potatoes, which were also both excellent. After we finished our meal, our waiter brought over a HUGE piece of chocolate cake with a candle for my wife, compliments of the restaurant."

  • "My husband and I went to S&W to celebrate our second wedding anniversary. I informed the restaurant that we were celebrating when I booked the table, and we were given a wonderful table and a nice card congratulating us. A very nice touch! The service we received was wonderful: very attentive, very informative, and very available. Our server guided us to split the salad we both ordered as a starter -- which was great advice given the size of it! My husband ordered a massive bone-in ribeye, which was served a perfect rare with all of the sauces served on the side (per his request). I ordered a wonderful filet with lump crab meat, and asparagus with hollandaise. It was wonderful, and the perfect amount of food."

  • "We had one of the most extraordinary service experiences in memory at Smith and Wollensky Atlantic Wharf this past weekend. While checking the ID before serving wine to one of our younger guests, our waiter noticed that her 22nd birthday was coming in the next few days. From that moment on, the entire experience was oriented toward making her -- and the rest of us -- feel special. The food was extraordinary, too. The Spinach/Peppered Bacon/Poached Egg salad is almost a meal in itself, and the Tenderloin Trio represented a symphony of delicious tastes. Every single one of us ended up taking food home with us (in a distinctive green "Lucky Dog" bag) and continued our meal over breakfast the next morning. Recommended without hesitation!"

  • "I have been here before for just regular dinners and the food is wonderful. However, I feel like my family really put their service to the test when our party of nine, including a few weeks old infant descended upon them. They were phenomenal! They didn't bat an eyelash with our requests and when the baby got a little colicky. Impeccable service and above and beyond attentiveness to making it a great experience for all (including those around us)."

  • "I wanted a nice dinner and we had heard that Smith and Wollensky was a good place to go for a Good steak. We weren't worried about spending a lot of money, because we were out for my birthday and ready to treat ourselves to a good dinner. My husband and I both got filets and they were just okay. Nothing great. I even had a little fat in mine. I've had a better steak at Outback. The server never came to check on how our meals were, he only came to scape the crumbs off our table. We won't be returning here, but trying the other great restaurants that Boston has to offer."

  • "We chose Smith & Wollensky on Atlantic Ave for our girls night out. We enjoyed appetizers of tomato carpaccio with burratta that was delicious and feasted on the filet with whipped potatoes. (Yes. We all ate the same meal.) The steaks were prepared to our liking as each one of us wanted it prepared differently. The coconut cake was good, but the chocolate dessert was fantastic. The cake was very moist and the icing was very rich. It is a must have for chocolate lovers."

  • "The overall experience was good, not great. I expected it to be great. We were surprised as we arrived at 5pm on a Thursday so the restaurant was understandably slow, so we didn't expect to have to wait for our waiter and our food as much as we did. The beef was top quality, but my medium filet mignon was prepared medium well to well done. The baked stuffed shrimp and shrimp cocktail lacked allot of visual polish. The young assistant waiters were constantly there (too much) filling our water and wine glasses but the lead waiter was gone for long periods of time and we could barely understand him because his accent was too thick. For the reputation of S&W and for the price, we expected excellent service and dining, we were disappointed."

  • "I have been to S&W before on unlimited budget, albeit for work. For restaurant week I wanted to give them a try with some friends who otherwise wouldn't go without the fix menu. Upon asking for the restaurant week menu, the waiter's attitude changed. On top of that, he also stereotyped us because of out ethnicity for being from a particular town known of our race. The dining experience took 3hours. Much too long for my opinion when you're waiting there for your next course. Also the coconut cake on the fix menu seemed like it was previously frozen and tasted like chalk. I have had the cake before on regular occasions so the difference noticeable. Needless to say when I have another outing it will not be here."

  • "As the Boston Waterfront continues to develop and add competition in the restaurant industry, Smith & Wollensky remains a standout for excellence in service and food quality. It is my go-to steak restaurant for treating family, friends and business contacts."

  • "From the moment walked in, we were treated with care. Our coats were taken and hung up as we were directed to our table. Our server, upon learning that we were first timers did a reader's digest overview of the menu with is recommendations. He was spot on. The meal was delicious, the wine accompaniment perfect and the service impeccable. Turned a routine dinner into a memorable culinary experience. The dining room is very large but the acoustics were such that you never felt drowned out or unable to hear the people at your table."
