A word from Small Plates
Welcome to Small Plates - Syracuse.

In Greece they have Mezze. In Spain they call it Tapas. In China they have Dim Sum. Italy has Antipasti. And in America, we have Small Plates- a uniquely communal dining experience where the only thing more stimulating than the culinary collision of flavors in our signature dishes is the company of those around you. Unbound by the limitations of regional flavor or color, Small Plates offers the palette a diverse selection of cuisine.

My party of 3 stopped in for dinner. It's a large place that was not crowded for our 5:00 dinner. This is part of the newer restaurant trend of tapas or appetizer size portions to be shared amongst the table. We ordered 6 small plates and had plenty to take home. The beef bruschetta, chicken tostados, shrimp pizza and lotus flower seared tuna were all very good. Our server, Chris, was attentive and helpful. We will be back.

It was my Husbands and I first time dinning here. What a FANTASTIC FIND! We had three plates to share more than enough. My Husband LOVED EVERYTHING we ate, and he's hard to please. I thought all the food was excellent. My Husband even remarked how once inside you felt like you weren't even in Syracuse, which is nice when when we just wanted to get away from the "Usual Syracuse eatery". WE WILL BE BACK!

I went before a concert and expected the food to take a bit longer than usual, so my 3-stars on service is more of a ding on management for not staffing appropriately than on the food or friendly waitstaff. Be prepared for an "energetic noise level"-- after all it is tapas so it's meant for socializing. It probably wouldn't hurt if they put in some noise dampers on the ceiling -- I was definitely yelling across the table during dinner. All of the food was pleasantly flavorful and creative.

My husband and I found this place on Yelp during a recent shopping trip from Ottawa to Syracuse. I have to say that the tapas menu was made just for us! It included so many of our favorites that we had a tough time choosing what to order. We started with Caprese salad -- very fresh mozza and locally grown tomatoes, the lettuce wraps and loved the presentation and the subtle kick of favour from the asian sauce. These were followed by the beef tenderloin bruschetta, Mediterranean pizza, and Chicken Tostadas - all delicious and gobbled up quickly! I chatted up the Manager, Andrew, and raved at the food -- he graciously sent over the key lime tartlette for us to devour -- a lovely, dense, cream cheesy finisher with a kick of lime! Awesome food!

Was in Syracuse for my daughter. Was glad to find this place. We love the idea of sharing plates. We made an effort to try things we've never had before. With the exception of chicken and waffles. We're suckers for chicken and waffles! There was music there this night. Even playing ourselves far away from the music did cut down on the need to shout.m very dark. Needed a light to read the menu. I can see how this would be a great late night place. The one thing I would change is that they give you one plate to use for all the dishes you share. Not a fan of syrup with Thai lettuce cups spicy sauce or balsamic glaze. The should put extra "small plates" on the table without needing to ask.

The food was very good, the service was excellent, but it was a very loud environment. It wasn't especially crowded, there was only our table of 4 and one or two other tables. The bar area was empty, but the music was up a bit loud for the small space making conversation difficult.

Small Plates is unique concept in Syracuse....small portions made for sharing . You do not need the 2 to 3 dishes each which is recommended by waitress. Servers want clientele to relax and enjoy experience but should check on tables a little more frequently...ie water refills and check. Overall, I would recommend trying it but order one dish a piece and then more if still hungry. Food is served as cooked, not all at once so it is kind of fun.

I had a friend come here on a date and loved it, so my friends and I decided to try it. Very few places accept reservations nowadays, so allowing reservations is a huge incentive to come back. I had a party of six and the waitress just had to push our tables together when we arrived at 8:45 on a Friday night. I ordered the lotus flower tuna and sweet potato fries, both of which were BEYOND AMAZING. Our server (I believe her name was Markie?) was very attentive and got us each multiple drinks. I am already planning on bringing my parents when they visit!

This is the second time we have been to Small Plates and we loved it both times. The drinks are really good, they don't skimp on the booze. And the food is creative and really, really good. Everything we had was excellent. Our favorite was the mini hot dogs. Delicious! And we probably overstayed our welcome because our group had not seen each other for a long time. But everyone was very patient and didn't make us feel uncomfortable. We doubled the tip as a thank you.

The service was excellent. Enjoyed each dish as it came out hot from the kitchen. Only 1 dish was a bit of a disappointment and it was the shrimp, too much breading. Not bad as we had 11 different dishes. We were in the front of the restaurant and we were cold because the front door kept opening up. A barrier of some sort would be helpful. We had a great time and are looking forward to our next visit.
