Interesting menu, very good food, good service with notable lapses. Beware of the Pei mussels w/spicy marinara, too hot to taste the PEIs. The menu offers different sized plates which works well as you get to taste much of the kitchens output. Mostly, you get what you pay for and that is quite good. The different rooms offers some well chosed canned music at loud, medium and complementary to the meal.
I will return.

The older I get, the more difficult it is to eat at the popular restaurants around town, since the noise level at these restaurants is close to unbearable for me, and holding a conversation with my fellow diners is impossible. But of course, quiet for a restaurant sometimes means disaster for its owners. Whether or not they intended it, Slightly Oliver has found the solution: we entered through the outside seating area, which was filled with a boisterous young crowd. Same for the front room, through which we passed on our way to the back. There, booths are surrounded by lace curtains (!) and the room is mercifully quiet. The food is really excellent and perfect for sharing. We ordered, among other things, a Spanish "flat," more like a pizza

The management was rude and the staff seemed to be unable to accommodate our group of 7 despite our reservation. Further, though the restaurant was not busy, we were kept waiting for almost 30 minutes. I would not recommend this restaurant given the amount of money we spent and the poor service we endured.

Bloody Mary was awesome. Food was great for brunch - and they kindly allowed us to catch up with our lunch companions for far longer than it took to eat. Next time in NYC - definitely going back. Also walking distance to Zabar's :-)

We were excited to go to Slightly Oliver and hopeful that we found another great neighborhood go-to restaurant. We placed our order of raw oysters, kobe sliders, grilled cheese with tomato bisque, and a scotch egg - all very simple items. The oysters came out in 10 minutes - not bad. At around 45 mins after the oysters, we waived down our server who said that she just asked someone to look into our food. Really, after 45 mins is when you question where our food is? It was so disappointing and frustrating. We settled our bill and walked out.

There's a great vibe here and some great menu ideas -- though our first visit failed, I'd be willing to come back and try again.
The food sounded great on the menu, but was either over or under seasoned upon delivery. Portions were small, so sharing wasn't such an elegant solution. The cocktail menu looked great, but they were out of the best of them, and the rest were disappointing.
Our server was having a lot of trouble, and the management and support staff were very attentive to make up for it.

Slightly Oliver is a new neighborhood favorite with a gourmet menu of food and cocktails. The spare rib was succulent and the mac & cheese was another fave. The dining area is a little quieter than the lively bar area and makes for a good date location. And when sitting at the bar, don't hesitate to ask the bartender to make up a drink based upon the ingredients you feel like having. I haven't been disappointed yet.
