my wife and I recently dined there and both were incredibly pleased. My wife ordered their veggie plate, which was awesome. Unlike most places that just put the veggie side dishes on a plate and call it a meal, SNOB actually cooks everything to order. The plate was huge and included grilled zucchini, green beans, Brussel sprouts, mashed potatoes, rice, grilled tomatoe, mushrooms, spinach and grilled eggplant. I had swordfish, which was fantastic. SNOB also has a great wine list. Our waitress was also wonderful. -- Bottomline, great food and service....we will be back.

  • Oustanding service and ambiance at SNOB

This was our 2nd visit to Slightly North of Broad. Typically difficult to get in to, we made reservations 2 weeks in advance during the slow November timeframe. As has been our past experience, the ambiance was delightful even if we were a bit overdressed compared to most of the diners. Service is impeccable at SNOB. Attentive, polite, informative. Could not ask for better service. The noise level was moderate and it was nice to be to enjoy a conversation for a change (big points for this!). Inside SNOB you'll find this old world charm with an open kitchen design. One can almost imagine life in Charleston so many years ago while dining at a quaint table for two. The food was average. This is unfortunate as SNOB carries quite the reputation. I ordered the shrimp and grits, and this is THE signature dish of Charleston. My date for the evening had the lamb and she enjoyed hers but she a Chef Professor and stated while the lamb was good, it was not a knockout. We ordered a side a carmelized brussel sprouts (and these are hard to do correctly) and while they were good, they could have been better (not "burnt" sufficiently to release the sugars and bring up the flavors). We shared the mashed potatoes with horseradish, but the potatoes were a bit too "unmashed" to enjoy thoroughly. Last but not least, we ordered the warm sour cream apple pie with ice cream to share for dessert. No where on the menu did it state that the topping contained walnuts and oats, of which my date is highly allergic. We mentioned this to our server who in turn mentioned it to the manager. The manager addressed our table and stated they would update the menu to reflect the contents. We were offered another dessert (but they didn't state "it was on the house"). So 3 out of 5 stars for SNOB. Go for the experience. While we are "foodies", we are not "food snobs" (pun intended) but believe Slightly North of Broad could do better.

Had a great lunch the other day with my sister. We had a terrific server who had helpers facilitate the terrific service. The place was 'a-buzz', but with happy sounds and delightful scents. The Salmon dish was sublime, but so was the Southern Medley. In fact, I bet everything was fabulous on the menu. As I was sitting near the kitchen exit area, I was able to sneak views of many of the meals going by and they all looked very inviting! KUDOS to this restaurant for maintaining high standards....and consistently delivering.

Ridiculously overrated restaurant serving totally unimaginative and pedestrian food that one could order at countless other restaurants for half the price. The service is spotty at best and our server had a horribly haughty and egocentric attitude.

We have tried several times to get reservations at the restaurant but never seem to look for them on time. Finally, on this trip down we succeeded and it was worth the wait. Great food, and it is already made better when you have a good server. Made the wine choice for us based on what we were having for dinner and price, perfect with our meals. Couldn't have asked for a better experience.

Three of us had appetizers and then selected from the Medium Plate with the idea of all of us ordering a dessert. The food was wonderfully flavored and presented and enough to fill us. We decided to split a desert and ordered the Butterscotch Pumpkin Bread Pudding. All three of us decided it was one of the best desserts we had ever eaten. We would be hard pressed to return to Charleston and not eat there again

The food and service were very good, but the restaurant is extremely noisy. When ordering we had to almost shout as our server had a hard time hearing us and it was difficult to have a conversation without raising your voice. Not a relaxing dinner, seemed to be a popular spot (full house) and it was not until the dinner crowd thinned out that the decibel level decreased to a comfortable level.

We were a group of six ladies and we liked this restaurant a lot. Three had the tilefish and said it was the best dinner of our 3 nights in Charleston. One person had the quail but wasn't so fond of that. One person had the duck and loved it. I had the snapper -- wasn't on the menu but our waitress said it was fresh in that day and they only had a few left. Well that snapper tasted awfully fishy - could not possibly have been fresh that day. I should have sent it back, but everyone else was enjoying the meal In retrospect, I am suspect that they would have wonderfully fresh snapper and not put it on the specials -- It was most likely left over from a prior day. The deserts and cocktails and wine were wonderful.

Over the years, we have been to SNOB multiple times and even made a lunch reservation for this time so we could share one of our favorite places with friends. We were disappointed. It's still a cute place with good service, but the food simply isn't as good as it used to be. My wife ordered the pulled pork and, quite simply, it didn't compare favorably to at least two dozen other restaurants/bbq joints we have tried around the country. The shrimp and grits were good, but, again, not in the same league as other restaurants. It's not that things weren't good. They were. But, with so many other restaurants to choose from in Charleston, why bother?

After having some great meals in Charleston with fantastic service this was just mediocre. There were much better places with more attentive staff. Our waitress never asked us if we wanted more drinks and only flew by to barely ask how the food was. It was busy but not horrible so she could have been more attentive. They do get points for being open on a Sunday and the duck with blue cheese bread pudding was phenomenal.

Hall's was recommended by friends from our home in western NY. This family knows hospitality and how to present good food, wine, and above all, hospitality. We were greeted by Mr. Hall (the energetic, upbeat son) at the front door. Once he knew who we were he added a big hug & "happy birthday" for my (when I had made the reservation, I informed them of my wife's 'special' birthday). We were escorted upstairs to a perfect booth as the jazz on the first floor elegantly filled the restaurant & entertained us as we dined. Unlike big-city steak houses, the service was impeccable and truly felt genuine. I had a bone-in filet & my wife had prime rib. Both were cooked to perfection at med-rare. Our wine & water were always poured without asking.WOW

Went with a party of four with reservations made 4 weeks before. I know it was a Saturday night but... we were 10 minutes early for an 8pm reservation and did not get seated until 8:30. No offer of a glass of wine while we were waiting so long and the hostesses knew we had been waiting. Sorry to get the negative off first. Our server was great. She was efficient, informative and she had a very full section of tables. Great wine and beer selection by the glass. All the food was excellently prepared. I had clams as an appetizer and lamb (perfectly cooked) for an entrée. Others had shrimp and grits, salmon and steak (I think it was a filet). This is a great restaurant in a highly competitive restaurant town. It was very good, not great.

SNOB was our final destination on a 4 day frenzy in Charleston and although we hit a lot of great restaurants SNOB stands out. The waitress was just right. Not too overly attentive but still friendly made some great suggestions. She kept our meal rolling. We had gone out to brunch in the morning so weren't overly hungry. She suggested splitting the shrimp and grits which was smart since it left room for dessert, triple chocolate cheese cake! I also ordered the beet salad with a local beer. Wonderful, relaxing atmosphere. We sat near the bar by a front window and watched Charleston go by. Can't wait to go back, only next time SNOB will be our first stop and maybe our last.
