A word from Slightly North of Broad
Slightly North of Broad is a Lowcountry bistro that brings together an abundance of local ingredients and thoughtful, expert presentation with a friendly, contagious energy. Here the dining room is a natural extension of the kitchen, a place where culinary skill, a clever, considered wine program, warm service, and conversations meld together. Our local farmers, fishermen and producers are as integral to the food we make as they are to our place in this community. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "The overall experience was great. Was recommended by a friend and she was right. Food, service, and value were all outstanding. It wqas a great way to begin our dining experience in Charleston."

  • "Always top notch service, very friendly and infirmed wait staff. Love the setting and food is great. Clam chowder and beet salad were out of this world."

  • "Considering that they don't advertise this place as a "family style" seating type of restaurant, I was shocked to find us practically on top of the couple seated along the window next to us. It did not help that this couple said no more than two words to each other the whole meal which made my table of four seem like we were leading the conversation for the six of us. The restaurant atmosphere is understated and quiet in its semi-elegant decor. The waiter was friendly and mostly attentive. The menu was well-rounded, with selections for foodies and for the plain jane type too. I had a wonderful strawberry salad and beef medallions. It was prepared perfectly and my friend, a vegetarian, ordered the dish of veggies, and raved about that too. "

  • "I got the Grilled Chicken & southern vegetable lunch......AGAIN. I love it! Can't wait to go back and have it again. My husband had the chicken and vegetable soup which was also fantastic. "

  • "This restaurant tries to be creative. The result is food pairings that are not good. It is unpleasant to see and hear all the mayhem in the kitchen. (Why is the highest noise level choice called Energetic? Why isn't it Too Loud?) Hopefully, this restaurant will stop trying to be trendy. "

  • "Pretty good meal. Unfortunately, we were seated in table near bathroom---somebody needed to be. But server/service was good.Food was good but not notable."

  • "My sisters and I ate at several of the best restaurants in Charleston over a period of five days. SNOB was our best dinner experience! We loved the food and the service and the ambience. I will definitely recommend this restaurant to any of my friends who are going to Charleston. We only wished we had had a chance to go back, but ate at SNOB on our last evening of our trip."

  • "We made reservations one month ahead. We were seated immediately! The restaurant is highly organized and efficient. The wait staff was incredible. Cheese plate was out of this world, perfect vegetarian dish, shrimp and grits - the best I've ever tasted, cornbread to die for, and wonderful wine list. It will be on our list for a return visit."

  • "We reserved lunch at SNOB and even though we were quite early were greeted warmly and seated a little after. Warm Waitress who gave options when asked about differences in menu. I had the new vegetable white bean soup which was So wonderful. I am going to write the chef for the recipe, pasta with veggies and mouth watering cornbread. All wonderful And perfect size to have before our 2 hour walking tour of Charleston. We appreciate all your warmess & great food just one more thing: OPEN a place in Sarasota!!! Thanks so much, Lina and Ken Meinhardt"

  • "Another highly recommended Charleston spot, so I came in with high expectations. The food was very good - unique flavors. The atmosphere was nice - upscale, but not too stuffy. The staff was not super friendly. Our waiter was nice enough, but just not overly welcoming. A nice spot with good food, but maybe not the "to-die-for" place it's made out to be."

  • "One of our favorite restaurants in Charleston. We know the food will always be great. Very consistent. Have to have the sour cream apple pie dessert. Best dessert in Charleston. Barbecue tuna is also great."

  • "We received courteous and friendly service throughout our lunch. Our food was outstanding, both in flavor and presentation."

  • "We arrived a little early for our booking and took a seat at the bar. I asked the bar tender for a bourbon drink and he said " Do you trust me?" Well he didn't disappoint! We were promptly seated and attended to near the vibrant bustling kitchen. The place was buzzing with activity however the noise was fine. Our food orders were promptly taken and soon dinner was served. For me the winner on the night was the lamb. Perfectly cooked and a very generous portion. Would definitely venture back here next time around."

  • "We stayed in Charleston for several weeks in 2012 and kept meaning to go to S.N.O.B., but there are so many great restaurants in town, it's hard to get to all of them. In retrospect, that was a mistake. S.N.O.B. was the best of all those we previously enjoyed. The carmelized pear salad was a real treat, and the flounder was prepared perfectly. The charcuterie plate was one of the highlights for the whole table. We look forward to returning!"

  • "Our dinner at SNOB was excellent! Highly recommend the shrimp and grits, and also the scallops!"

  • "We enjoyed our dinner. The food and service was excellent."

  • "We were in town for the bridge run and decided to meet some old friends. Each time we have dined @ SNOB we have had a memorable experience. My only disappointment was they ran out of the monk fish and it was rather early in the evening. Highly recommend this restaurant to people who enjoy good fresh food."

  • "Second time to S.N.O.B. - as long as I am able. a visit to this fascinating city will include an evening at this fine, fine restaurant. Rather than waxing rhapsodic like many a pretentious foodie, I will just recommend not missing this experience."

  • "Excellent East Bay Street restaurant. A must while in Charleston. Would definitely go back. Very creative dishes using local ingredients. Reasonably priced wine list with good selection."

  • ""Delightful" in all respects -, food, service, ambience, noise level - but lunch time parking is a bummer . . . during day the nearest garage full w/ no open spaces, nearest outdoor lot (just around the corner) not accessible until 6 pm, street parking only if fortunate enough to spot someone vacating a space. Parking several blocks away may be good exercise but a real hassle. (In the evening both the nearby garage and outdoor lot might well be available; our experience was mid-day (1 pm). Once inside the restaurant one enjoys a truly delightful lunch (and surely such would be likewise expected if dining there in the evening). So, the actual dining experience was very good, both thumbs up!"

  • "The food and service were outstanding. Excellent wine list with several moderately priced as well as those in the vintage category. A great find! We will definitively return."

  • "In Charleston it's hard to go wrong when it comes to food. There are many good places to eat. There are many fine dining establishments. There are many hole in the wall places with awesome food. SNOB was by far the best meal I had and I enjoyed every meal I had. They came highly recommended and they did not disappoint. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and professional. The food was just different enough to make it special without going over the top. I had gnocchi with winter veggies....awesome! Just loved it!"

  • "Fish was dry and when returned was provided same fish with lots of butter. Not acceptable and no apology from management as a matter of fact was made to feel like sending it back was inappropriate. This treatment ruined the meal for the entire group. Will not return. Must say they did take it off the check. The server was good and she tried to tell us that they were surprised by the crowd."

  • "This was my least favorite of our Charleston dining spots. Lovely upscale dining space, and while the food was good, it wasn't impressive enough that I would make a return trip next time I am in town. My friend had a vegetable sandwich and coleslaw, the slaw was tasty but the bread on the sandwich was soft and a bit soggy. I had a spring onion ravioli special and the butternut squash soup, very good....and reasonably priced as the lunch special at 10.95, but nothing to write home about."

  • "Reasonable prices at lunch and the Express Lunch special was a great dish that day-braised beef, soup or salad, select drink. Restaurant was full and it looked like satisfied diners all around."

  • "The setting was fantastic, but the service poor. Our waiter was haughty and uninterested. The food was good, but did not meet our high expectations"
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "The food and service were very good, but not as good as the 2 other restaurants we sampled while in Charleston. However, the dessert of key lime tart was outstanding!"
    Dined on 3/24/2014
  • "The clam chowder was some of the best I ever had. Cornbread was sweet and tasty. Homemade chips were sweet and salty and different than most but delicious."

  • "SNOB was a lively and fun place to have lunch. We received excellent service and the chef made a sandwich I requested that wasn't a regular menu item. Loved the atmosphere. Overall outstanding experience."

  • "Not sure what to say. This place still seems to be on top of its game after all these years. Reservations even at lunch are a must. My tuna was as good a meal as I've had in charleston."

  • "Can't say enough about our dinner at Slightly North of Broad. This was our first dinner in Charleston and definitely the best by far! Our server was fabulous - hard to believe he was training. I had the ribeye steak with a delicious onion jam and herbed goat cheese was sensational and my husband had the tuna with a fried oyster topping which he said was delicious. The beet salad for an appetizer was so fresh with house made ricotta cheese. The wine list is excellent and has several organic options. The decor and atmosphere are first rate - restaurant is busy but still has an intimate feel. Highly recommend this restaurant and can't wait to return on our next trip to Charleston!"

  • "Very crowded but hostess and sever were great - lots of choices on the menu - Soups and Salads are wonderful and the Salmon was very good. Friendly atmosphere"

  • "We had the highly acclaimed Shrimp and Grits and were not disappointed. We were seated promptly and were served in a timely fashion. The wine by the glass was great and the service a good. I subsequently came home and bought a cook book with their recipe for the shrimp and grits and will try my hand at preparation of this dish in the upcoming weeks."

  • "While stayingnear Hilton Head we decided to take a day trip to see Charleston. We checked Tripadvisor and found SNOB at the top of the list so decided to give it a try and made a reservation. We were more than pleased with everything. I decided to try their famous Shrimp and Grits. Having only tried grits once or twice and deciding it is an acquired taste not worth cultivating, I was a bit skeptical but pleasantly surprised. I would definitely order this again. My wife had the crab salad plate which was also excellent. We decided to share a serving of their excellent version of banana cream pie. Portions were generous and prices reasonable. Service was friendly, prompt and professional. If we ever get the chance, we'll definitely return."

  • "We shared the low country entree, shrimp and cheesy grits, and it still provided a generous portion for each of us. It was an a delicious embellished version of this local specialty. My husband very much enjoyed his Barn Raiser cocktail. Our server was attentive, but not at all intrusive. We would choose Slightly North again when in Charleston."
