A word from Slide Inn
A corner gathering spot serving Modern American favorites with a global flair.

Set in an inviting mid-century modern inn.

Chef Eugen prepares organic and local ingredients when available, with a great many dishes made in-house. Traditional favorites are served such as hamburgers, Mac n Cheese, house made sausages and unique Fondue choices, but it doesn’t end there. There are many options for vegetarians and gluten free diets such as GF Gnocchi. For brunch, Kaiserschmarrn, which was originally prepared for the Kaiser, can be enjoyed along with our gluten free roasted yam waffle with ground clove served with maple or ginger syrup. Another healthy and delicious option is our vegan rice flour waffle served with agave lavender syrup.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "The service was fairly slow and this surprised me because they were not busy. We were able to buy off the Happy Hour menu. The food was good but would not have been worth full price."

  • "Loved this place ! The food was outstanding . The establishment is utterly charming in every way."

  • "Service so slow we left without getting even a menu or glass of water after 40 min! During that time none of the other diners ahead of us received their meals nor were any dirty tables cleared!"

  • "Very interesting menu. Lots of gluten free choices. Our two dishes were excellent. "

  • "Great mid-century ambience. Took mom for Mother's day lunch - incredible menu. Laid back staff was prefectly attentive and the bar tender was excellent. They had several large groups in at the same time we were there - and they didn't miss a beat. Great gluten free options as well - didn't feel like choices were limited at all! Will definitely go again. "

  • "Place is cute and food was good. But to wait almost two hours for food? I won't be back. Server did the right thing and comped a couple of items but this town has too many great restaurants with great service for me to wate time here again."

  • "Good food that was hip and modern while still being comfortable and familiar. The ambience was great. Super cool design. Will definitely go there again."

  • "I have rarely had a bad experience using the open table service so it pains me to write this: We had a reservation for brunch and were seated quickly. The room was full but not overly so; we ordered within about 15 minutes of arriving and the menu selections looked good, especially because we needed a gluten free menu for my daughter. We waited an hour and a half for food; when it arrived the best of the meal was mediocre. The hamburger was burned and missing most of what it was supposed to have on the plate and burger (missing bacon and the cheese and all condiments); the bun was barely unthawed. My turkey sausage egg scramble had an odd taste. One of gluten free pancakes was not edible, one was passable -wow! Will not go again."

  • "Service very slow due to large party and new server."

  • "The food here was excellent - we have no complaints as far as the quality of our meals. However, the kitchen was incredibly off their game given that it was Valentine's Day, a holiday that you'd think a fancy restaurant would be well-prepared for. Not only did our entrees arrive 10 minutes apart, one of them was incorrect AND they arrived before our appetizers! It took another 15 minutes to fix the entree mistake so that I was finished with my appetizer and meal before my husband even got his entree. Our desserts also came out at different times even though they were the same thing. The wait staff was polite and helpful but clearly exasperated with the kitchen's performance. We will try the Inn one more time but certainly not for a holiday."

  • "An overall poor night. First, we had reservations and we were seating in an aisle, with people moving on both sides of us. Second, the 3-course meal was overpriced. I know it was St. Valentines Day, but still. I got clams for a starter, and there were only 5 claims. The steak was OK, just OK. And we had one piece of bread for the claim juice, the size of a fifty-cent piece. And when we asked for more, we got rye bread, which overshadowed the taste of the claim broth. Not a very good night, and I don't think I will return."

  • "We came here in anticipation of a german meal. While the salmon and risotto were delicious, it didn't seem particularly German. The ambiance is nice with the retro clocks and lighting."

  • "My husband and I went for an early Valentine's dinner. When we first walked in it was slightly busy and I was worried that service might be really slow. Quite the contrary...this small, well run restaurant had the bartender at our table greeting us, getting drinks and appetizer orders within just a few minutes of our arrival. There were so many appealing options on the menu it was hard to choose. After the food started coming it was clear there was not a bad choice on the menu (and the selection, tailored to both meat and non-meat eaters including lots of gluten free options!). This is a must try!"

  • "Slide Inn accommodate our monthly ladies brunch beautifully, the service was good, although there was on one waiter on the floor for a Saturday brunch hour. as the room got business, waiting became increased. The food was so-so, I am open to trying anything, but if it's not right, I will not return. Portland is full of great eateries, so this unfortunately will not be a place I will be returning to."

  • "We went for Brunch and the food was terrific and with such a diverse menu it can appeal to all in your crowd. Love the decor too. Can hardly wait to go back to try out the dinner menu."

  • "We have been to The Slide Inn many times. The food is consistently good, and the service amiable and efficient. We love its casual ambiance and mid-century decor. However, on New Year's Eve, I think they underestimated the number of guests they would have, and were understaffed in the dining room and the kitchen. Service was slow, even though the wait staff were running their little behinds off, trying to keep up. No worries; we had a great time, and will be back again."

  • "It was a shame. The food was overall delicious and I would have recommended it but the service ruined it. The server was very nice but no one should wait an hour after the meals are finished for the bill. We then handed him the bill after waiting another 15 minutes. It was a shame and hopefully a fluke."

  • "The only problems we had were because they were short-handed and had a larger turn-out than expected. Otherwise, very nice woman waited on us, and the food was out of sight! Excellent! I've never had such good Eggs Benedict. My partner was a little disappointed by the goat cheese, chanterelle mushrooms, omelette. The other two of us were very happy with their food. None of us were particularly happy about the chlorine-tap water."

  • "I brought my family here for a brunch. We have a mix of vegans, vegetarians & carnivores in the group. Everyone had plenty of options to choose from on the menu. I love the homemade syrups, they have lavender, hibiscus & ginger to choose from. Water is served in glass goblets & you get cloth napkins. It's an elegant vibe without the pretentiousness & high price. The decor has a refined retro look. To me it feels like you're walking into a fine European lodge in the 70's. The service was also great. Our server was very friendly & attentive. We passed by The Screen Door restaurant on our way, the line was out the door, it was loud & jam-packed inside. Too bad people didn't know this hidden gem was right around the corner."

  • "We went to Slide Inn on a Tuesday evening and discovered it was Happy Hour all night. Instead of ordering regular dinners we sampled lots of small plates and were very pleased with everything except the pickles. Would recommend you try this."

  • "Great Happy Hour with extended hours. Fun and delicious food choices and friendly service."

  • "When we got there, less then half the tables were full. With our reservation we were expecting a good table, but they put us back in the corner. Then another party of 4 came and they sat them at the table right next to us which was very close. Now I wouldn't have though anything about it but there were many empty tables, and it remained that way while we were there. Oh yea, I had asked our server two times for sugar until finally I had to get up and go to the bar and ask for it. By then our coffees were luke warm! Nice ha! At this point I would reluctantly recommend. When food can be great but the service is poor then the whole experience gets downgraded!"

  • "We visited this restaurant because they were hosting a German language Cabaret night. The place was packed, due to this, so this is probably not a good point to write a review about a normal visit. My understanding was that more people came to the cabaret than was expected, so the staff was understandably overworked. That said, staff was friendly, food OK and seating area comfortable. My only complaint is that when we arrived our reserved table was given to walk ins for the show. After about 25 minutes of deciding if we wanted to stay, they pulled out a table from some back room for us to use."

  • "I think the chef was cooking for both the restaurant and bar next door. Waitress was pleasant but food took FOREVER to come out and probably nearly the worst service we have ever had. The reviews looked good and that's why I chose to go there for Mother's Day but cannot recommend it."

  • "Poor service, cold food. Watched a waiter drop a slice of Bacon on the floor, pick it up, put it back on the plate and serve it. OMG!"

  • "Twelve of us had a lovely dinner at Slide Inn. although a little difficult to reach when not a local and without a car, it was worth the effort! the menu is quite eclectic, ranging from sturdy German fare to Italian pastas to vegan offerings. Everyone truly enjoyed the freshness and unique spin on their salads, the entrees garnered "ahs and oohs", and the desserts were quite fine. Were we to live in Portland, we would no doubt make this a regular stop. this is not a restaurant where you have a rushed meal: plan to stay a while and enjoy all they have to offer. The noise level was moderate but it was all coming from us!!"

  • "Went for dinner and they had happy hour all nite on Monday, so we tried many things. Every thing was delish."

  • "The service was very slow and the waitress forgetful. It took a full 20 minutes for anyone to come over and ask if I wanted a drink while I waited for the rest of my party. After drink were ordered the waitress forgot to bring my friends beer then remembered about 20 minutes later and also forgot my coffee that I had ordered with my dessert. There was also a very large party (10+) who made a lot of noise as the night wore on and the space was very unforgiving of that. The food was good and they have a lot of vegan/vegetarian and gluten-free options if you have a party that includes people with those diets."
    Dined on 4/13/2013
  • "We very much enjoyed the pork Wienerschnitzel dinner. It is actually hard to find that dish nicely done in Portland. The ambience and food are highly reminiscent of a comfortable tavern meal in Germany. We look forward to returning."

  • "Just had brunch at the Slide Inn. Had never been before. looking forward to going back for happy hour/late nite. Great place, tremendous food, nice lounge area & laid back staff."

  • "The Slide Inn has an eclectic atmosphere with delectable, to die for, cuisine. The variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes are great for those that are gluten intolerant (Only place we have seen to offer gluten free tempura). However, don’t let the variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes discourage you; there are abundant options for meat lovers. My wife, son, and I all got different appetizers and entrées and everything was delicious. Not on the menu, but they also had a gluten free chocolate torte that would satisfy any die hard chocolate fan. The one down side is there was only one waitress at the time and service was a bit slow, but we didn’t feel neglected. Please, do yourself a favor and Slide Inn for a scrumptious dining experience."

  • "This is the transformed Il Piatto - same owners, same location. Some of the old favorites are still on the menu, and there are some wonderful new additions. Rather than having a strictly Italian focus, it now includes German and Swiss dishes as well. All are delicious (we tried 5 things!), and the service was gracious. I will definitely go back. I hope others realize that this is not just a new restaurant, but rather a new version of an long-standing success."

  • "My boyfriend and I made reservations for 7:15 pm on Valentines Day. We arrived right on time, and were told that it would be a minute. The host suggested we grab a drink at the Jade Lounge next door while we wait. While we wait, two separate couples who had arrived after us were seated. We finally are seated, and come 8:00 not a single person had come to our table to take our order or even say hello. We ended up walking out and enjoying a great meal at another restaurant in the neighborhood. It was unfortunate, because we were excited to try the Slide Inn and it is a cute space. I can't comment on the food (though this site requires me to rate it), but the wait time was simply unacceptable when we had a reservation."

  • "We paid $40 each for the Valentine Menu. I was very disappointed in the food. The salad was limp, and my crustini tasted like it had been sitting on the counter for a while. It's was toasted baguette with melted brie, but the brie was cold and the bread over toasted. I have the Mole and the chicken had to be cut with a steak knife. The quinoa was cold and my Cumin Green Beans over powered the mole. The two flavors do not compliment each other. I had the chocolate fondue and the cake tasted like a box of Jiffy. Our waitress was a stress case and kept sitting down and customers tables to take their order. We had to literally get up and and ask her for stuff. The decor is adorable and the hostess was the one redeeming experience."

  • "The chef works miracles with gluten-free options. Austrian specialties with a modern twist are among the offerings that set this place apart. Cozy, comfortable, friendly."
    Dined on 2/14/2013
  • "The fish had to be sent back because it was undercooked, the chicken was overcooked, the wait staff was understaffed, the furniture was jammed in so tight the waitstaff had to turn sideways to walk. Slow service, mediocre food, high prices, no attention to detail. No thanks, won't do this one again."
