A word from Slide Inn
A corner gathering spot serving Modern American favorites with a global flair.

Set in an inviting mid-century modern inn.

Chef Eugen prepares organic and local ingredients when available, with a great many dishes made in-house. Traditional favorites are served such as hamburgers, Mac n Cheese, house made sausages and unique Fondue choices, but it doesn’t end there. There are many options for vegetarians and gluten free diets such as GF Gnocchi. For brunch, Kaiserschmarrn, which was originally prepared for the Kaiser, can be enjoyed along with our gluten free roasted yam waffle with ground clove served with maple or ginger syrup. Another healthy and delicious option is our vegan rice flour waffle served with agave lavender syrup.

We were very excited to try this German accented little neighborhood place. The crepes were hard and cold although the spinach was delicious the sauces smokey flavor was over powering to for the date frache to shine. The polenta triangles were cold and hard with the red sauce having a lot of depth and richness to it was cold as well. The flavor of the pumpkin gnocchi was drowned out by the thick rich heavy red sauce. The vegy sausage was hot but greasy because it was deep fried. The red cabbage bed underlying the sausage was the best tasting food of the whole experience. I past the cook on the couch texting glancing up at me several times with the most unwelcoming gaze. I would never return for another try.

  • 2 Time Failure

As I recall, the food there was good. However, the last 2 times we tried to go were complete failures. The previous time, we made a reservation, received the email confirmation, then got a call 15 minutes before our time that they would not be able to honor the reservation. This time we made the OpenTable reservation and got there on time. The place was practically empty. A woman at the only table occupied warned us that this was not a good night. She said that they had been there almost an hour and had not received service. A server came out and told us that there would be no more food out of the kitchen that night. We went somewhere else. Too bad. This used to be one of our go-to places. I can no longer recommend.

The restaurant has outdoor seating, which is a nice option. Service was slow & unfriendly, & they didn't serve everyone's food at the same time, nor remember who ordered what. The ambiance is nice but there are these creepy pictures of little girls with black holes for eyes which is unsettling. The German pancake with raisins & vanilla was spectacular, but the savory 1 with bacon was just a flavorless solid block. The sausage was wonderful, but the bacon was overcooked and too dry. The omelettes were not too fluffy and could have used more filling, but their hash browns were delish. Coffee was nice and fresh, & each dish was served with fresh melon which was wonderfully sweet. They also have amazing infused syrups. Food has too much salt.

I was surprised to find Slide Inn without more diners on a Friday night. Both of us really enjoyed our drinks and meals. The gnocchi was unusual and satisfying without having a heavy cream sauce. LOVED the atmosphere--the paintings and seating areas made me wish I was on a snowy 70s vacation.

Great mid-century ambience. Took mom for Mother's day lunch - incredible menu. Laid back staff was prefectly attentive and the bar tender was excellent. They had several large groups in at the same time we were there - and they didn't miss a beat. Great gluten free options as well - didn't feel like choices were limited at all! Will definitely go again.

I have rarely had a bad experience using the open table service so it pains me to write this: We had a reservation for brunch and were seated quickly. The room was full but not overly so; we ordered within about 15 minutes of arriving and the menu selections looked good, especially because we needed a gluten free menu for my daughter. We waited an hour and a half for food; when it arrived the best of the meal was mediocre. The hamburger was burned and missing most of what it was supposed to have on the plate and burger (missing bacon and the cheese and all condiments); the bun was barely unthawed. My turkey sausage egg scramble had an odd taste. One of gluten free pancakes was not edible, one was passable -wow! Will not go again.

The food here was excellent - we have no complaints as far as the quality of our meals. However, the kitchen was incredibly off their game given that it was Valentine's Day, a holiday that you'd think a fancy restaurant would be well-prepared for. Not only did our entrees arrive 10 minutes apart, one of them was incorrect AND they arrived before our appetizers! It took another 15 minutes to fix the entree mistake so that I was finished with my appetizer and meal before my husband even got his entree. Our desserts also came out at different times even though they were the same thing. The wait staff was polite and helpful but clearly exasperated with the kitchen's performance. We will try the Inn one more time but certainly not for a holiday.

An overall poor night. First, we had reservations and we were seating in an aisle, with people moving on both sides of us. Second, the 3-course meal was overpriced. I know it was St. Valentines Day, but still. I got clams for a starter, and there were only 5 claims. The steak was OK, just OK. And we had one piece of bread for the claim juice, the size of a fifty-cent piece. And when we asked for more, we got rye bread, which overshadowed the taste of the claim broth. Not a very good night, and I don't think I will return.

My husband and I went for an early Valentine's dinner. When we first walked in it was slightly busy and I was worried that service might be really slow. Quite the contrary...this small, well run restaurant had the bartender at our table greeting us, getting drinks and appetizer orders within just a few minutes of our arrival. There were so many appealing options on the menu it was hard to choose. After the food started coming it was clear there was not a bad choice on the menu (and the selection, tailored to both meat and non-meat eaters including lots of gluten free options!). This is a must try!

We have been to The Slide Inn many times. The food is consistently good, and the service amiable and efficient. We love its casual ambiance and mid-century decor. However, on New Year's Eve, I think they underestimated the number of guests they would have, and were understaffed in the dining room and the kitchen. Service was slow, even though the wait staff were running their little behinds off, trying to keep up. No worries; we had a great time, and will be back again.

It was a shame. The food was overall delicious and I would have recommended it but the service ruined it. The only problems we had were because they were short-handed and had a larger turn-out than expected. Otherwise, very nice woman waited on us, and the food was out of sight! Excellent! I've never had such good Eggs Benedict. My partner was a little disappointed by the goat cheese, chanterelle mushrooms, omelette. The other two of us were very happy with their food. None of us were particularly happy about the chlorine-tap water.

I brought my family here for a brunch. We have a mix of vegans, vegetarians & carnivores in the group. Everyone had plenty of options to choose from on the menu. I love the homemade syrups, they have lavender, hibiscus & ginger to choose from. Water is served in glass goblets & you get cloth napkins. It's an elegant vibe without the pretentiousness & high price. The decor has a refined retro look. To me it feels like you're walking into a fine European lodge in the 70's. The service was also great. Our server was very friendly & attentive. We passed by The Screen Door restaurant on our way, the line was out the door, it was loud & jam-packed inside. Too bad people didn't know this hidden gem was right around the corner.

When we got there, less then half the tables were full. With our reservation we were expecting a good table, but they put us back in the corner. Then another party of 4 came and they sat them at the table right next to us which was very close. Now I wouldn't have though anything about it but there were many empty tables, and it remained that way while we were there. Oh yea, I had asked our server two times for sugar until finally I had to get up and go to the bar and ask for it. By then our coffees were luke warm! Nice ha! At this point I would reluctantly recommend. When food can be great but the service is poor then the whole experience gets downgraded!

We visited this restaurant because they were hosting a German language Cabaret night. The place was packed, due to this, so this is probably not a good point to write a review about a normal visit. My understanding was that more people came to the cabaret than was expected, so the staff was understandably overworked. That said, staff was friendly, food OK and seating area comfortable. My only complaint is that when we arrived our reserved table was given to walk ins for the show. After about 25 minutes of deciding if we wanted to stay, they pulled out a table from some back room for us to use.

Twelve of us had a lovely dinner at Slide Inn. although a little difficult to reach when not a local and without a car, it was worth the effort! the menu is quite eclectic, ranging from sturdy German fare to Italian pastas to vegan offerings. Everyone truly enjoyed the freshness and unique spin on their salads, the entrees garnered "ahs and oohs", and the desserts were quite fine. Were we to live in Portland, we would no doubt make this a regular stop. this is not a restaurant where you have a rushed meal: plan to stay a while and enjoy all they have to offer. The noise level was moderate but it was all coming from us!!

The service was very slow and the waitress forgetful. It took a full 20 minutes for anyone to come over and ask if I wanted a drink while I waited for the rest of my party. After drink were ordered the waitress forgot to bring my friends beer then remembered about 20 minutes later and also forgot my coffee that I had ordered with my dessert. There was also a very large party (10+) who made a lot of noise as the night wore on and the space was very unforgiving of that. The food was good and they have a lot of vegan/vegetarian and gluten-free options if you have a party that includes people with those diets.

The Slide Inn has an eclectic atmosphere with delectable, to die for, cuisine. The variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes are great for those that are gluten intolerant (Only place we have seen to offer gluten free tempura). However, don’t let the variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes discourage you; there are abundant options for meat lovers. My wife, son, and I all got different appetizers and entrées and everything was delicious. Not on the menu, but they also had a gluten free chocolate torte that would satisfy any die hard chocolate fan. The one down side is there was only one waitress at the time and service was a bit slow, but we didn’t feel neglected. Please, do yourself a favor and Slide Inn for a scrumptious dining experience.
