"The service was dismal. The server didn't offer us drinks, and forgot to order one of our party's entree dishes. The food was mediocre too. I ordered duck medium rare, but it came out tough and a bit dry. It was also totally empty at 8 on Saturday night. I prefer the restaurant to be at least half full."

"Slate is a a darling place in a good location. The server was very attentive. The appetizers were great (we had the mac and cheese and the baked goat cheese). The disappointment came in that many main dishes, including specials, came with all the same sides as each other (mashed potatoes and what felt like thawed mixed veggies). Overall everything was OK, but this isn't your place if you are looking for creative menu pairings and care taken by the chef."

"Went to Slate for Valentine's Day and it was lovely. I ordered a duck special that came with truffle mashed potatoes and a mushroom sauce and it was delicious. The atmosphere was good for Valentine's Day, as the restaurant was occupied almost exclusively by pairs. Definitely would go back. The menu is small but with 3 or 4 daily specials there should be plenty to choose from."

"The space in Slate is just right! Small, cozy and still a little sleek looking. The sfaff is exceedingly friendly and charming, although slow and the food was hit or miss--the lamb rib special was really undersized, but the scallop and fig appetizer was delicious. It was empty on Sunday evening and we were able to sit and talk leisurely for a few hours, which was wonderful."

"The pasta dish with sausage was excellent. The sausage was very light. I appreciated that the waiter let us get a burger (bar menu) at the table. Next time we come - we may just sit at the bar. Loved the bake goat cheese appetizer and the short rib mac and cheese was great too."

"There is nothing special about this restaurant. Food was ok, waiter didn't know which plate was a filet or hanger steak and the decor is very average. I wouldn't run back with so many other great choices in the city."
