Our lead server knew the well and went with her recommendations. of course glad we did. Loved the appetizers. The main course selection was amazing. It was my Dad's 80th Birthday and we shared the orders family style. In short, all of us at the table could not stop raving about the food and overall experience. Great food that is way different from your typical restaurant but not that you feel uncomfortable ordering. The wait staff is always able to provide guidance and recommend great suggestions that bring together a memorable meal. Great food on top of an incredibly scenic location = something you will want to repeat many times. Selections are delivered as they are ready and it can sometimes come across as less than stellar service but it all comes together in the end. The food is mostly Vietnamese and they have lovely cocktails as well as interesting NA beverages, like the pineapple spritzer I had during my lunch visit. Tables by the window or with a waterfront view are first come first serve, but there many tables with a view and both times I've gone I've been able to sit at a table with a view. You can also sit outside.
I've gone for lunch and dinner and each was great. It's a bit loud inside, but not so loud that you can't carry on a conversation. definitely go with friends because dishes are served family style and after reading the menu you'll want to order one of everything.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food, cool viewThe first thing you notice at the Slanted Door is the cool decor and amazing view of the bridge which at night is spectacular. The food is very good and service is decent considering the place is consistently packed. I recommend order lots of small dishes and trying different stuff because the food is really very good. We weren't sure what to order and our waitress was able to suggest some wonderful dishes! Everything is seved family style which makes it really fun to eat with friends. There were 4 of us and we shared all the dishes. The ribs were delicious as was the chicken in clay pot. We also had a delicious white wine recommended by our server which went great with everything. We ate here for lunch, will definitely go back! We were in San Fransisco for 3 days, it was so good we ate there three times. They have a different menu for lunch and dinner. The service is fantastic. They only recommendation is to make a booking, we went there twice without a booking and we were seated in a different section of the restaurant both times. This area is behind the bar, the atmosphere is not great and the dining decor and ambience is average, however the food easily made up for this. Hostess could have been a bit nicer. We sat in the bar while we waited for our reservation, ended up staying at the bar, never got called for our 1:45 reservation. Turned out fine as the bartender's service was great, but would have been nice if host would have come over and said, "Hey your table is ready, but I see you are eating here at the bar so would you like to stay or take your table?" I've never understood why some waiters/hostesses can be so unkind, maybe they're used to dealing with other unkind people...? The food was delicious and the view of the bridge was amazing, but the service went beyond all of my expectations. I was there with two dear, older friends of mine, one of whom was in a wheelchair. They gave us a comfortable table and catered to their every need. And when we left, every staff person jumped to help clear the way for the wheelchair; if you know this restaurant and how crowded it gets on a Friday night, you can just imagine navigating the length of it.
