I've been here about three times
for dinner and each time I was very happy with my dinner and felt pampered in the pretty space. I've had attentive waiters and found nothing to dislike."

the restaurant seemed to be
understaffed for a regular-Wednesday lunch. There didn't seem to be any large parties holding things up, but putting in our order, getting our food, and getting the bill and to go box too WAY too long. Someone at our table ordered their burger well done (don't ask), and the servers aid that was holding up our food (even though we didn't ask him), but as a lunchtime server, if that does happen, you should make sure everything else moves smoothly, like asking if you can bring the bill once the food is served. But instead, we had to wait almost as long for the bill and a to go box as we did the well-done burger."

Enjoy this traditional restaurant
which serves up delicious Italian food with no ginmicks in a historic building."

I frequent this place for
'special' lunches as I work nearby and it's pan easy walk. Have had most of the menu offerings with my favorites being the grilled salmon and tuna Tatar appetizer. Make resides cause it can get busy...."

Skylight Gardens has been opened
up so that tables are far apart and the noise level is not a problem. We went on Valentine's Day--along with many others--so the service was slow. However, the waiter kept us informed about what was going on (i.e., "Your salads will be here in just a minute.") But the food was worth the wait. Ah, the risotto! I would return again gladly."
Dined on 2/14/2014
This was my second time here. I
knew the setting of this place was nice. Then the food was up to the expectation again. I had the handmade pasta, and my friend the seafood risotto. They were both excellent. They also have a decent list of mixed drinks. The only negative was the service. We were here for Valentines' Day, and the staff was friendly but clearly overwhelmed. The wait was extremely long, they brought us the bread too late, and we never could get pepper. Overall, this place should still be perfect on a regular night."
Dined on 2/14/2014
The waiter was really attentive
and the food was really good! :)"
Dined on 2/7/2014
Had the roast beef sandwich, which
was literally inedible. The bread was stale, the meat looked suspect...they took it off the bill, but who wants to go to brunch and after waiting for 20 minutes for your food, leave without eating? My friend had pancakes...which were fine, but will wait a while before going back, hoping they improve."
Dined on 1/26/2014
The place is very inviting when
you walk in the door. There is a lit tree in the middle of the restaurant/ atrium. We had a lovely server who knew the menu well and made great suggestions. There is a great selection of appetizers, and salads, a vast array of pasta dishes, chicken, beef and fish. We were there at 5:30 PM on a Sunday and it was not crowded. We were told Sundays are there slowest days. We will definitely go back and recommend it to friends."

We've been coming to this spot for
decades. This last incarnation is OK, but the food and service are not very good. We ordered the fish and it came out cold and mushy. The waiter was not able to comment on our questions and just seemed like a nice but uninformed guy. Even the hostess made us feel uncomfortable when we asked for the front room (as we did on out Open Table reservation). She seemed to be confused whether we could sit there and put us in the noisiest room in the middle where I could not hear a word my friend was saying! Your prices are quite high as is the valet parking and we expect more. We just can't justify being customers, even though we love the place."
Dined on 1/10/2014
The service was wonderful, the
guantiy of food was more than I had anticipated. Everything was delicious!!!"
Dined on 1/12/2014
This is second time at restaurant.
Service was very slow both times, especially for drinks. Probably waited 15 minutes. While restaurant was not very full, bar was busy which might explain slow service. Food is OK."
Dined on 1/12/2014
The best part of our lunch was the
wonderful waiter, whose name was Joseph (I believe). He was very informative and offered the appropriate level of guidance and advice on menu items. I would return to the restaurant if I could be assured of him as our waiter."
Dined on 1/10/2014
Took my friend for a birthday
dinner -- first timers. A very good experience, with great tasting food. No complaints, whatsoever. When the waiter heard it was my friend's birthday, he removed the charge for her dessert from our bill. We felt unrushed and well taken care of."
Dined on 1/7/2014
The food and the ambiance keep us
coming back, we are local to the area and enjoy the service and the meals keep getting better"
Dined on 1/9/2014
Skylight Gardens serves up
wonderful hearty Italian fare in a really neat and interesting setting. You sit inside a building with a cupola so it's light and airy, very pretty inside. The food was great - everyone really enjoyed their meal! Loved it!"
Dined on 4/9/2013
The experience was just OK in my
opinion. Service and food was good, nothing extraordinary. The vibe was OK, nothing fun and nothing romantic. It was a place to check out since we hadn't been there yet, but I'm unlikely to return..."
Dined on 7/5/2013
First of all, the food was
wonderful. My only issue was with the reservation that I made over a week in advance. We made reservations for 7pm because we were seeing a play at the Geffen after dinner. I got a call from the rest. the day before asking me to move my reservation to 6:15 or 6:30, it told them I didn't want to change explaining we were timing our dinner with our theater tickets. The hostess made it very clear that she was irritated with me not changing my time. When we arrived we were seated in the bar and the bartender was our waiter. He was nice but it was not the type of service we expected. The restaurant sat at least 50% empty, I guess we were punished for not changing our reservations. For this I will not go back."
Dined on 12/31/2013
I had lunch here many times.
Dinner was a disappointment. They were out of one of the menu items and The entree we selected was overpriced. I also indicated it was a birthday on the reservation and we were not given any dessert, just the check. I was embarrassed to have taken my friend here for a special dinner."
Dined on 12/30/2013
OUTSTANDING!!!!!!! Our friends
loved it and we will most certainly return."
Dined on 12/21/2013
Had a lovely Christmas lunch with
friends at Skylight Gardens. Getting the reservation online was helpful. The food was excellent, and our server was super pleasant and fun! We all had a lovely time."
Dined on 12/17/2013
Food is fine, have been there
before, but you'd better pay cash. The day after the dinner my credit card Co. called about massive fraud, almost certainly caused by personnel stealing my credit card info."
Dined on 11/15/2013
I truly enjoyed the meal and the
ambience of the restaurant. However, I was truly impressed when the owner met me at the door when I was leaving and engaged me in a very pleasant conversation. Moreover, the men serving as valet parkers, were wonderful conversationalists too."
Dined on 12/5/2013
A place that one can have a
conversation without screaming. Food delicious and reasonably priced."
Dined on 11/18/2013
The restaurant is quite noisy at
brunch and it was difficult for our hard-of-hearing party even tho we had requested a quiet table. Hard to come by nowadays. The brunch choices were extensive and good."
Dined on 11/10/2013
Nice atmosphere. Good food and
such an open, enjoyable yet quiet setting for great conversations. We had a great time with an out-of-town guest for dinner two days ago."
Dined on 11/7/2013
Service was pretty slow at the
restaurant and we had to ask for veggies for the guac and mimosa refills multiple times before getting them. Food was good but nothing spectacular."
Dined on 10/20/2013
The salad with salmon came and the
salmon portion was too small for the price of the item ordered. The turkey on the Turkey sandwich was not 'roasted' as to what I think roasted is. Waitress or menu should tell what type of Turkey is going to be served. Thank you.."
Dined on 10/25/2013
The restaurant had a great brunch
menu with something for everyone to enjoy."
Dined on 10/13/2013
You'll need to plan at least and
hour and a half for lunch."
Dined on 10/10/2013
Needed a place to celebrate our
birthdays and i had heard of this place. I love the name, and it is aptly named for there are skylights in the main dining room on a tree? I think that's what it was! we opted for Happy Hour which was awesome. The bruschetta was to die for. The Ceviche...too many tomatoes. The Cheeseburger sliders and the garlic french fries were awesome..... The wait staff was very efficient and friendly, and they brought us two birthday desserts and didn't charge us."
Dined on 10/10/2013
This was our second visit to
Skylight Gardens and each time the food was poor.My pasta pomodoro was very overcooked and tasteless.A reasonable Californian sauvignon blanc at $44 was around $10 too expensive. At 7.30pm the restaurant was almost empty. It cost around $60 per person which included only one split salad between 3, three mains, one dessert, one wine and two sparkling waters. It was way too much.Palominos across the road offers much better food, less expensive but good wines and a great atmosphere and for three of us yesterday came to $110 for the same number of dishes including a delicious pasta pomodoro. We won't waste any more money in the Skylight."

On the third leg of our California
trip we were looking for a restaurant close to our hotel. The Skylight Gardens turned out to be a great choice. We were able to walk from the Palomar Hotel on Wilshire Blvd. The place was fairly empty but it was a Monday night. I rarely single out particular waiters but Jamal was something special. Extremely friendly and helpful, he gave us excellent recommendations. When I ordered the kale salad he encouraged my husband and I to share it. It was plenty for each of us and it was absolutely delicious. My husband had the chicken piccata, based on Jamal's recommendation and it too was delicious. I had the Bronzino, also an excellent choice. If you're in the Westwood area this place is great."
Dined on 10/1/2013
The half turkey sandwich had two
tiny slivers if turkey, probably less than one ounce. I would have sent it back, but it was a business lunch. With two excellent restaurants across the street, I won't ever go back here."
Dined on 9/27/2013
Lunch options were really good.
The different levels were a tad confusing, but the food was great. I had Bolognese that was as good if not better than any I've had, good size portion as well. I loved the Ceasar Salad. I will be back!"
Dined on 9/25/2013
I was so pleasantly surprise of
the great ambiance and outstanding service. Well worth our 25 Miles drive!"
Dined on 9/22/2013
This replaces the Hamlet Gardens
which was at this location for years. Outstanding service and very good food in a delightful environment. Only downside is that I think it pricey for what it is."
Dined on 9/23/2013
The price is very high for what
you get. The sea bass at $36 was tasteless and didn't taste very fresh. My seafood risotto had a great taste but not much seafood in it. The Lentil soup and kale salad were excellent. The waiter never came back to see if we needed anything. So for the price and the quality I would not return."
Dined on 9/16/2013
The food was average, then
again,we didn't take the server's suggestions on the specialties in each of the sections on the menu. The service was good. If you sit near the bar though, it will be noisy and if that is a concern, then ask for a seat on the opposite side of the room. We were there for a pre-theatre dinner and had plenty of time to walk over to the theatre after."
Dined on 9/13/2013
I like that the bar area is one of
the calmer places to have a drink and chat with a friend."
