  • "I went to this restaurant with my boyfriend after reading a review in Now magazine. It has been very hit or miss with the Now's picks, but this one was definitely a winner. We barely looked at the menu after seeing there was a Chef's Menu option. We were served three aps, two mains, and a dessert. All were mouth watering and we practically licked our plates clean. The strawberry mojitos were also yummy. Skin + Bones is definitely in my top 10 Toronto restaurant picks. We will be back!"

  • "After discovering that many restaurants and wine bars in Leslieville are not open on Sunday nights, I considered Skin + Bones for a late dinner and drinks. A foodie friend said he really liked the vibe here, which made me more confident. I made a reservation for two for 8:15pm, unsure how busy they would be. Thankfully they were not, as we arrived 20 minutes late. We chose to sit at the bar because we really liked the feel of it. We received attentive service from both the bartender and our servers, who showed themselves to be very knowledgeable about the menu and bar offerings. We thoroughly enjoyed our wine selections and the food we finally ordered, and liked the fact that we did not feel rushed."

  • "It was great to finally find a tasty tapas bar that wasn't a rip off. Most of the items we tried were delicious and colourfully prepared. The carrot salad was a refreshing change from beats and the fried gnocchi was superb. And, for once in this city, the portions were decent and the prices reasonable. Friendly wait staff and prompt service topped the night. Also, cocktails were excellent. Will happily and promptly return."

  • "Our server was Chris. Efficient, charming, casual yet not familiar ( I don't like it when servers use Keg style tactics). The food was delicious. We've eaten at some of the best in the world so we know food. I'm also a Chef. We went to use a promo ( no corkage fee) from a wine club we belong to. Many friends said we must go but frankly, the name made me gag. I'm glad we found this place and will definitely return. "

  • "Pros: Really liked the room, the lighting, the bench seating, the bar. The service was excellent. Good wine list that's priced well. The terrine app. Sticky toffee pudding. Side fried potatoes. Pork steak. Cons: Noise level. Food - limited menu selections that could have used more greens and/or vegetables. Chorizo was blah. The branzino was tasty but heavy on the olive oil. The skirt steak was on the tough side. Pot de creme just OK. Portions small. I would return just for cocktails or a bottle of wine with some snacks. "

  • "Found this establishment while on a walk. Found the menu and decor interesting. Booked a reservation a few days later. Overall great experience. Greeted at the door with a smile and assisted with our coats. Our waiter was knowledgeable. Service was efficient without any "hovering". Good wine selection by the glass and really good food. Note overly large portions - just right. Good value for the money. Will return really soon. This us a great "local" find."

  • "We were completely disappointed with the food at Skin and Bones. It appeared they are trying, but missing the mark on all the many appetizers that we ordered. We decided not to order main courses. The bar drinks, however, were excellent. Service was only ok - at best. Atmosphere was nice."

  • "I can't comment on the good because we didn't eat - please do not use the "Fair" rating. Opentable - it shouldn't be a required field for wine bars. Service and wine list is great which is why I picked this place. We were seated in the back, right in front of the kitchen and amongst rather large parties (3-4 tables with 6+ guests). It was SO loud. My guest had arrived before me and had also asked if we could move to a quieter spot. He was told that was the only spot available. I did notice a few tables had emptied not long after wd arrived and certainly be our wine had arrived. It would have been great for the staff to be cognizant that we did ask for a quieter spot by letting us know when an alternate table had become available."

  • "Server, Chris, was on the ball. He made some excellent recommendations including the order of the food, he didn't judge when we ordered whites with the steak and was ready for a good laugh. We had white fish (not overdone, really solid), had lamb meatballs (best choice of the night), and hanger steak. The lamb was the favourite and great to share for a starter. The bill took a while to come but I think they just didnt want to rush us. Overall ,a wonderful evening. Will go back for sure."

  • "My wife and I did Sunday dinner at Skin + Bones and left feeling satisfied and treated incredibly well. The service was outstanding, the food flavourful and the deals fantastic (buck-a-shuck oysters, $7 cava and $5 bottles of beer). The octopus main is probably the best dish of its kind I've ever tasted. Hands down. We HIGHLY recommend this place."

  • "Went here on a Sunday for brunch -this restaurant is full of kids! It might be because free Ploughman's buffet is offered for kids under 5 or just the neighbourhood. I had the Corned Beef Hash and added on the Ploughman's buffet - both were very good. My hash had great flavour and egg on top was cooked to perfection. Loved the raisin scones and Saskatoon Berry Mini Mufffins. There was also great Blood Orange Marmalade and Blueberry Preserves served with these delights. Husband had the Porchetta Eggs Bennie and said was good but found Polenta to lack flavour. Overall was truly enjoyable and would definitely go back."

  • "Just went for the first time, four of us on Saturday night celebrating 3 birthdays. Skin + Bones made it a perfect evening. The food is excellent - fresh, interesting creations, cooked perfectly. The wine list has a variety of by the glass or bottle options selected by a consulting sommelier (we asked), and the cocktails are interesting and tasty. The menu alone makes the place very well worth visiting. But the service is what ups it to a must-go. Your water glasses are unobtrusively refilled before you even notice they need filling. Your napkin is refolded at your place when you return from the restroom. Our server was an absolute delight. This is a gem, and we plan to be back."

  • "BeNst poached eggs in Toronto, very good reg. coffee (decaf too watery)and truly excellent service--attentive, professional, and genuinely warm and welcoming. Casual decor, but hospitable and comfortable. $3 add-on Ploughman's Buffet is a great deal. Terrific granola (not overly sweet), lovely bread, cheeses, terrine, etc. Menu design is generally healthy, with good choices for special diets. Serious attention to cooking. Quibbles: Tables a bit too close together, if it gets crowded. Decaf coffee should be stronger. Some buffet items could be better: carrot cake exceedingly oily, and no flavour; yoghurt servings too small, tiny muffins not interesting. Wouldn't recommend buffet as stand-alone meal."

  • "Had a fabulous dinner starting with the grilled calamari bursting with flavour, followed by the most wonderful pork belly. My husband had the hangar steak which was also a great hit. The sticky toffee pudding is to die for! Good but limited wine list, my only complaint is the cost of the wines. Great that you can get either a 3oz or 5oz pour, but really, $12 for 3oz??"

  • "Right in the heart of Leslieville @ Queen and Carlaw, Skin &Bones is an excellent meeting spot for locals to have dinner after work or gather with friends on a weekend. The service is top-notch. Nice feature to have the menu change every day. Loved the option for $35pp to let the chef choose your four course meal. The waiter suggested the perfect wines to suit our tastes. We will definitely be back again and add it to the top of our recommendation list for friends."

The owners Lisa and Daniel are welcoming and friendly, will do anything to provide outstanding service; staff is courteous, personable and knowledgeable; chef and crew prepare divine dishes for all tastes. We've had only great experiences there - from a casual drink & snack, to a special date night or birthday dinner, to a get together among friends or a scrumptious brunch. Highly recommend it."

  • "I can't speak highly enough about my experience Sunday night at skin + bones. It was a make up night for missing Valentine's Day on Friday and we had an experience that made up for it and then some. From our welcome at the door to a personal hello from the manager, not to mention our server James who looked after us with aplomb. Yes, I haven't mentioned the food yet - mainly because the memory of the evening seemed so personal. We felt like we were at a friends home who just so happens to serve a wonderful meal. From mushroom sides, to pork bellies to a divine sticky toffee pudding the meal was an experience throughout. Definitely will be back again. And again. And again. Amazing."

  • "We had a wonderful evening at Skin + Bones with dinner and drinks. Since it's classified as a wine bar, we choose to start with a glasses of their reds which were both very good. The dinner menu is very simple and not to complicated with enough variety on the menu in the starters and entrees. We ended up starting with a cheese plate which was delightful and tasty, then moving onto entrees. The meats were excellent and super tender, definitely cooked with perfection by the chefs. We ended with a chocolate brownie dessert which fabulous. All in all the food and service was excellent. Though we don't live in the neighborhood, it's definitely a place we'd come back to if we were in the area again. Definitely check it out!"
