A word from Skillet Diner - Capitol Hill
The award-winning Skillet Diner opened in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle in 2011. We’re a neighborhood joint doing our best to make the place feel relaxed, service attentive and easy; the food approachable yet focused. We use fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. The style of food is similar to what we’re known for on the airstream …the difference? we have so much more room! Items range from our maple braised pork belly and waffle with a fried egg on top, to our burger with bacon jam, arugula, bleu/brie on brioche with beautiful hand cut fries, to our southern fried chicken and legendary kale Caesar salad. Our full bar hosts happy hour daily and offers hand-crafted artisan cocktails along with beer and wine on tap.

Seating policy: We require your whole party be present to be sat. We will hold your table for up to 15 minutes. If you would like a table on the patio, please specify in your reservation request. Patio is open with weather permitting.

Our first visit was for our 15 year-olds birthday dinner with three friends. They loved the food (milk shake before dinner) and we parents did too. We had limited time and got out quickly even though I would have loved to sit and have some dessert. The food was amazing! We will be back.

We found this restaurant from a friend who was coming to Seattle for a wedding and we are so glad we ate here. Our waiter was fabulous and the food was absolutely amazing! The pork belly and cornbread waffle is to die for!! There portions are huge and their menu is great. Would eat here everyday if I lived in Seattle but buying there cookbook will have to settle. I recommend making reservations because this place is a hot spot! Until next time skillet diner, your amazing!!!!!!

After we had heard so much about this restaurant, we were a bit surprised that the food wasn't better. The blue cheese on the burger completely overwhelmed the other flavors. We really enjoyed the chicken sandwich though.

This was a special birthday dinner and they were well prepared for us. They had the table reserved and even provided their chocolate pudding with a candle for the birthday person. The food... well if you like most everything covered in grease it is your kind of place. The hamburger was tasty but very wet with grease as were the(huge serving of)french fries. The biscuit and scrambled eggs were good and a very big portion. All the drinks are served in mason jars of different sizes. The place is very loud and the energy is very positive. If you are looking for a place to get some comfort food, have a loud conversation with friends, bring a child and not worry about bothering other patrons this is the place for you. Won't be back.

Reservation for birthday brunch for 70 year old mother and grandmother made 2 weeks in advance for 7 people. We were 5 minutes early and could see our empty and set table. I asked to be seated while waiting for daughters and granddaughters. Hostess had to check with server. Why? Then she said that if others were not on time we would forfeit the reservation. The diner was not on the top at this place. The servers attitude was more important than ours. The food was good...but change the service attitude!

We only keep coming back on weekends for the cinnamon rolls. I honestly wish they served them during the week, because I'd come then, preferably. It gets too noisy on the weekends and there's a VERY long wait to get brunch on sat/sun. They always tell us (for our 2-3 person group) that the wait is roughly 30-40 mins, but in reality it USUALLY is around an hour to an hour and a half. Which is ridiculous. When they first opened, their food was amazing, and it's really gone downhill... keep things presentable on the plate! And for God's sake, please no more blaring-so-loud-I-can't-hear-my-voice 80s music.

The food was amazing! I had the goat cheese dumplings. Incredible. The corn and peas were so fresh and sweet and crispy. Due to slow ticket times, we also had dessert. I had the banana split. The banana was brulee'd and was incredibly delicious. A really delicious meal. Can't wait to return!

This was our first time at The Skillet Diner, having discovered it while searching Google Maps for our AirB&B location in the Capitol Hill district. We found the service excellent and the food as well. We sat on the patio so there was some ambient noise from the busy 14th Ave. traffic and jets inbound for SeaTac Airport but this just added to the urban vibe of the place.

Service - Good, just the right amount of attention - not too much, not too little. Food - Really really good. Everything was tasty and this was one of the best places during our trip to Seattle. We especially appreciated the fact that their side salad had a serious amount of greens. It wasn't the tiny fist-sized portions you get at other restaurants. Other things - Their silverware is a mix-&-match hodgepodge of random forks and knives. Some will be silver and some will be steel. That can affect the flavor so check to see if your cutlery matches your "taste".

I joined my friends for at this trendy Capitol Hill restaurant. Food was decent although we did not receive one side order but were billed for it nonetheless. One of my companions ordered a dish with pasta, it had a human hair running through the pasta. The waiter graciously replaced the order with a different menu item at no charge of course. The bar drinks were decent enough albeit a bit small due to being served in small mason jars, quite frankly I prefer a regular tall glass. Would I go go back? It's debatable.

I typically visit Skillet Diner in Ballard; the Capital Hill location was my first visit. It's a nice restaurant. The decor really impressed my guest, who frequents restaurants all over the world. I love Skillet Diner - they pay attention to the details and provide quality food. I have brought many guests to this restaurant and it has been a good experience every time. I really appreciate their service.

My husband and I were able to eat dinner here at 7:00 p.m., which I thought might be really crowded but was fine. The place did fill up quickly, though. Skillet puts a twist on American comfort food like Southern fried chicken, which I tried. Its batter was sweetened with honey (meh) and it was served in a bowl with their potato salad -- roasted potatoes and yams (I think) tossed in a vinaigrette with some wilted greens. It was tasty but if you're in the mood for traditional comfort food do yourself a favor and ask how they prepare it.

Late airplane arrival, SeaTac arrivals a total mess, heavy traffic into Seattle, moved our reservation back 3 times while battling our way thru the mess. Arrived at Skillet minutes before the main menu ended, we were seated with a smile, provided suggestions and placed an order from the main menu a few minutes late. Friendly, helpful and no sign that we were running late. The food was served quickly, tasted great and a great 10 year catch up conversation with a friend from St Louis was what it was all about. Service made for a great evening and an impressed visitor from the mid-west. Thanks!!

The pork belly and cornmeal waffle is what I ordered and it was divine! The pork was great and the cornmeal waffle was heaven sent. There was 5 of us and the only one to frequent the restaurant (he'd been 2 times in the past week) was the groom. The rest of the party (myself excluded) were from out of town and thoroughly enjoyed their meals. The coffee was flowing and our waiter fabulous and at times a little too fabulous but not so much so that he detracted from our experience. After our meal the table ordered a Cinnamon roll which took the whole and I mean the whole table to finish and it was the best $6 you'll ever spend. Please don't go here alone on a Saturday and order the cinnamon roll, you'll love it but your heart will hate it!

Overall, a great first experience at Skillet. I made a reservation for brunch and was able to be seated within about 15-20 minutes of the scheduled time. The food was all delicious hearty breakfast fare and the service was friendly. The only drawbacks were a few mistakes / things that didn't arrive despite being ordered and slightly slow service from the waitstaff. Definitely worth a return trip.

We were checking in at Alaska Airlines in New Orleans and one of the guys at the counter was in from Seattle training new crew. In conversation, he recommended Skillet Diner. It's only a short walk from our son's home, so we tried it out. We'll be going back. The food was excellent and well-prepared. The pork belly with the cornmeal waffle and eggs was outstanding. And if you're there, check out the bourbon and peanut butter milkshake. And get two straws. It's more than enough to share.

I've eaten here before and wasn't disappointed, but I ordered a side of "poutine" for my "fried chicken sammy" and both were sub-par. The fried chicken was bland, not crispy, and kinda looked like it had sat in the hot oil for too long. My "poutine" was warm, not hot, and the fries underneath the grave and cheese were not crispy and tasted as if they'd been sitting under a heat lamp for too long. Good news is, I took the leftovers home, placed the chicken and "poutine" underneath the broiler of my oven, added some salt, and hot sauce, and the dish was completely better!

Our family dined here following Seattle University graduation. For a special occasion, it did not really have a very special feel, but it was convenient. We had a reservation, but because tables were a little slow in clearing, we had to wait about fifteen minutes past the reservation time to be seated. The hostess apologized and asked if there was anything she could do for us while we waited. The menu is creative, and the food was good, but portions were a little skimpy for the price. Bloody Mary and a coffee specialty drink were outstanding. Overall, I think our party would have enjoyed the dinner menu more than the all day menu. I appreciated the opportunity to preview the menu on-line.

If you're a fan of comfort food with a twist, check out Skillet for all of your dining needs. They have a full bar and can serve breakfast all day, everyday. I went twice during my visit to Seattle, once for brunch and then again for dinner. It was a great experience both times. The first time, I tried the biscuits & gravy and my friend had the serious toast. It was delicious. The next time I went, I ordered the burger and my friend had the chicken & waffle. The waffle wasn't as impressive as the rest of the food but I'll just have to come back later to see. Great food and a lovely spot in Capitol Hill.

I was torn between chicken and waffles or pork belly and waffles. Had the chicken, a slight maple taste in the crisp peppery crust. The cornmeal waffle a perfect compliment. The "potato salad" not traditional added a buttery tang with a hint of mustardy goodness. I will obsess on this until I go again. And never mind the bites I stole from my husbands putine. To DIE for! Can't eat this way more than once in a long while, but soooo worth it! Run!

I regularly take my visiting-from-out-of-town friends here for brunch, and they love it. The food is amazing (excellent coffee from Cafe Vita!) and the service is great! I recommend making a reservation if you have a larger group of people because this is a popular location. The place was packed so it gets a bit noisy inside, but there's also more peaceful, covered seating outside if you prefer.
    Special Features:
great for brunch, fit for foodies, good for groups, great for outdoor dining, hot spot
