  • "Although I'd eaten at SD in Capitol Hill, I had yet to try the Ballard location. When family came in for the holiday weekend, I knew we'd have to make a reservation for 8 regardless of where we ate. I was thrilled when SD had room for us on the 4th, and we were not disappointed. It is spacious and beautiful inside (and out), and the food is divine. Our table ordered a variety of things, including deconstructed hash, bacon and eggs, jblt (jowl bacon, lettuce and tomato...easily made into 2 meals) and jimmy's scramble. We also ordered donut holes for the table...my oh my, they were straight out of the fryer and oh-so-delicious. Our server was delightful and attentive, always knowing just when to refill our coffees. LOVED it here! THX, SD."

  • "I don't get the popularity of this place, at least where the food is concerned. The new Ballard space is a cool building with a nice vibe but the food is just not very good. My table mates had the hamburger and I had the meatloaf. We went because the burger was written up somewhere as one of Seattle's best...definitely don't agree. Ordered medium rare and both were well done (sent one back). Fries were overcooked and just not that tasty. The meatloaf was dry as if it had been sitting around and then reheated, and the accompanying mashed potatoes were lumpy and tasteless. Done with this place."

  • "Really well prepared food and very rich. Wide open restaurant with high ceilings and a nice bar area. We went for lunch on a Sunday and it was very crowded and quite loud in the restaurant. A little too loud for my son, but we all enjoyed our food."

  • "A group of my friends were excited to try Skillet in Ballard and were pleasantly surprised. We had heard good things about this restaurant and it was better than we expected! Everyone had a well prepared meal that exceeded our expectations. The service was comfortably friendly! We are looking forward to returning! ' "

  • "Thankfully we planned ahead an got a reservation, but for brunch there was a line out the door that crowded the tables unfortunate enough to be close to the entrance. We got there on time, but had to wait a good while for one of the staff to even greet us. Luckily, we were seated fairly promptly after that, and they were even nice enough to let us add an extra seat. Unfortunately, we then waited 10 minutes to get drinks, another 15 before they actually showed up & then had to flag down the harried waitress to get out order in (she told us she'd "be right back" with water and coffee... the coffee never came). The food was fantastic, though I'm not sure it was worth the poor (overbusy) service. Definitely needs to add more brunch waitstaff!"

  • "Food and service was great! Once a week I get a carb nite and I chose pancakes for dinner this week. There are not many places that I could find that serve pancakes after 4:00 pm close to my neighborhood. Skillet is now my go to for that. Plus, they LOVE BACON as much as I do! My only complaint was the front desk man - maybe the manager?? He is a grump with no "happy" personality for their front lines. Luckily, the staff seems happy and grateful to be working and serving, otherwise, it would have soured my full experience. If he was not there, I would give everything 5 stars! He just needs to go."

  • "Although I had a confirmed OpenTable reservation for the last dinner seating available (10:00 p.m.), after we had been seated we were given the very limited snack menu and told that's all we could order because there was only one cook and one server available. This was extremely disappointing because we were celebrating a special occasion and could have dined at an earlier time or a different restaurant if we had known. Even though there weren't other customers and we only ordered one course (sandwiches), it took over 20 minutes to get served. After this bad start, it really doesn't matter how the food or ambience were. "

  • "Looks like and feels and acts generally like its name. Many positives. Don't go early unless you like rugrats. Huge place. Will be a hit with local apartment dwellers but don't drive up from Tacoma. Good place for fat people or wannabe fatties. Basic and unsophisticated. Drink list is too complicated for loggers and truckers who are the target market. Only thing missing is chicken fried steak and grits. Keep Harborview on speed dial when dining. "

  • "expensive for mediocre food. waiter was exceptional. drinks were good. music was so loud that everyone had to yell to be heard. I like good greasy food but this was way to greasy, fries inedible."

  • "We had a a late breakfast (11:00 am) on Easter Sunday. We had reservations but still had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. We also had to wait another 10 minutes for wait service. The food was good, not spectacular although the portion size was large. The acoustics are not good making conversation difficult. Our waitress was very nice but the service was slow."

  • "Obviously popular by the crowds waiting outside, the downside is that its modern design with hard surfaces creates unbearably high noise levels on a busy day. We chose it for the menu and reasonable prices as a place to get together with family. But we had to scream at each other to be heard over the din. I had a sour frisee salad and my husband a soggy poutine, though others enjoyed their scramble and hamburgers. For as busy as it was, the service was good. I would recommend it for loners at busy times or groups at off hours. "

  • "We've seen Skillet Diner but have never been there. We really enjoyed our meal and will go back soon. My wife had the pot roast and it was fantastic. Menu looked great and can't wait to try more items."

  • "Everything about Skillet Diner was excellent! My original reservation was for five, and then I changed it to seven a day before and then to eleven people the morning of! While I would have completely understood if I could not be accommodated, Amanda (manager) did not hesitate to find a quick and frictionless solution to our now HUGE party of eleven. Along with the incredible food, our easter brunch was very enjoyable with an attentive and gracious waitress ... we were all very happy and all eleven of us commented on how we would definitely return. This was our first experience with this restaurant and we will never forget the incredible customer service we received! Thank you!!"

  • "Four of us went during Seattle Restaurant Week. Three ordered from the SRW selection, one ordered a la carte. Great option to have "breakfast for dinner." Everyone's food was great, except for the poutine appetizer that wasn't quite warm."

  • "Much more seating than the Capital hill location and parking is so much easier."

  • "We arrived 2-3 minutes before our reservation and were told it would take a few minutes for our table to be ready. As we waited, 3 other couples walked in and were seated immediately, despite not having reservations. When we were finally seated (after confronting the hostess), we discovered that the restaurant was not offering the Seattle Restaurant Week lunch menu that day, as advertised. I made the reservation through the Restaurant Week event page on Open Table, however they refused to honor it for lunch on Sundays. The manager confirmed they were offering the lunch menu Monday - Friday, but would not honor it on Sundays because, as she explained it, Sundays were already busy so there was no need for them to offer the promotion."

  • "The Chub sandwich has all the breakfast flavors you could want in one mouth-watering bite. Enjoy your brunch with warm Caffe Vita coffee, friendly waitstaff, kid-friendly atmosphere, modern country kitchen decor, and a relaxing view of the greenery out back. There are large tables for big groups and smaller ones for a more intimate breakfast. Make a reservation ahead of time or find a spot at the bar to avoid the wait."

  • "We've eaten at the Capital Hill location several times and this was our first time at the Ballard location. The same great food and great service, but it was unacceptably loud. I had to shout to be heard at a table for 3 and it interfer with the dining experience. The room needs something to absorb some of the noise. We'll eat at the Capital Hill location again, but would not recommend the Ballard location."

  • "I've been many times to the Skillet Food Truck and Skillet location at the Armory. We tried the fried chicken thighs on waffle and the Thurs night special of ribs and cheese grits. Both were outstanding! And praise for the waitress who brought extra towels for the messy, but oh so delicious ribs. Will be back again to try the breakfast items."

  • "We went to the skillet based on my experience with their food truck and we had a really nice meal. Their entrees lean toward the comfort food/American area, with specialities like pork chops, short rib pot roast, and fried chicken. My son enjoyed their mac and cheese with a crisp, gratineed crust of cheddar. The food was hearty, tasty, and delicious. The apple crisp at the end of the meal made for the perfect ending."

  • "Love this place for brunch! Can't get enough of the Little Rob - egg, bacon, and American cheese between the best pancakes of all time. Oh, and it's served with a side salad so you can say it's healthy. But beware their Bloody Mary - the bacon jam is the bomb but the drink is crazy spicy. Dee-lish and spicy."

  • "We arrived for our reservation on time, and waited for too long a time to be seated all the while there were four employees standing standing around the cash register in an empty restaurant. Once seated, after a bit too long to take our order, the service went much better and the food was quite tasty."

  • "The food at Skillet is excellent. Last time I was there I had the chicken salad sandwich and a bowl of their tomato bisque soup. The chicken salad was so good, it felt like I was eating a thanksgiving dinner in sandwich form. Service was excellent."

  • "My friends and I enjoyed a quick meal and a cocktail at Skillet in Ballard before an event we had to go to in the neighborhood. Usually, I go to the Capital Hill location which I find a bit more cozy than the newer Ballard location, but food was great! I first tried Skillet a few years ago via one of their food trucks at a brewers festival and have been a fan ever since. Amazing comfort food with a modern twist that will keep you coming back for more!"

  • "I have friends who are very picky eaters. They drive me crazy, when deciding where to eat. Restaurants must meet their criteria and food must be prepared a certain way, Ugh! It was our first time at skillet and it took them forty-five minutes to place an order. The waitress was attentive, as well as, patient and kept refilling our drinks while they made their decision. They ended up having griddle cakes with lemon butter. The pork belly and waffles, poutine and the chicken dinner. I absolutely loved the Mac and cheese. Our one complaint was that the restaurant was very cold, almost to the point of shivering. Although, this would have been a deterrent for my friends to return, they felt that the delicious food warranted another visit."

  • "My first time to Skillet after eating an awesome breakfast out of their truck they were giving out free if you were on your bike (which made me love them already). The food was outstanding. The kale caesar was perfect. The pan seared rock fish also great. Pudding dessert too rich for me but really tasty and different. Inspired mix of ingredients and nice portion size. The Ballard location is big, open, brightly lit so great for hip families (they also have milk shakes, burgers). Still fun for those on date night but wouldn't choose if looking for dark romantic night."

  • "My sister and I took her 3 kids and this place was very family friendly for a Seattle spot! The kids commented on the great crayon collection and all three loved their entrees! It helped that their was a small skillet on the plate that held their French fries. They thought that was awesome. The skillet poutine and bacon jam burger with blue cheese delighted my palette. The service was wonderful too! The only thing I was a bit disappointed in was their milkshake. All other good items were exceptional!"

  • "We've been to Skillet three times now. Twice for brunch and this latest visit was for dinner. We love the food - very tasty and HUGE portions. It's nice the breakfast menu is served all day long too. Fried chicken is the best. The cobb salad was pretty heavy on the blue cheese and bacon but still tasty. Ribs were amazing!! We will definitely be back."

  • "I would not go back to Skillet for the sole reason that the server was so persistent in moving us along. Instead of giving us time to figure out what we wanted, she would come back every 30 seconds to ask for our order. It was clear she was trying to move us along but it was ridiculous. The entrees came out before we were done with our apps and she put down the dessert menu while I was not even half done with my entree. I also saw the host come back and look to see how close we and the other tables near us were to being done at least 10 times. I get bad service in Seattle but nothing so obvious as this. And its too bad because I have been wanting to go to Skillet for a long time. Good food but not good enough for this kind of service."

  • "Skillet's Ballard location offers all the same great food options with seating for more customers. I was able to easily make a reservation online so I could share Skillet's fun and delicious menu with my cousin visiting from Austin. Fast and friendly service and great food."

  • "...we were staying at the Hotel Ballard, and my 11 yr old had been there before...all she could talk about is the pot roast...the place was easy to find, and from the moment we entered and sat at the bar(my girls choice) it was fantastic! The serve rguy(only one not in plaid) who worked right in front of us was very pleasant, and even though buzy, made time to have genuine conversation. He checked in often, but kept a close eye to ensure we had everything. The pork chop was the best I'd ever had, and my daughter loved her pot roast(I ripped off her baby spinach and omg...awesome!)...a really great dinner experience!"

  • "We were so happy with our burger meals - noting the quality of the beef (from Montana) we indulged! The sauce(s) really make the burger. The servers are great - friendly & attentive. The only drawback - whew! it gets really loud! and crowded! We had to move our table back & forth, to let diners in/out of their spots as it's quite crammed, at least in back. But, really, that being said, it's a great spot to meet up and we will be going back!! :)"

  • "The Skillet Diner is a fun restaurant right next to the Ballard library. I arrived on a Friday night at 6pm and my first impression upon entering was that this is a lively place with lots of spirit. After a few minutes it also became apparent that this place is loud, likely because the music is so loud that everyone has to speak up just to hold a conversation. But once settled in some charms start to stand out like using jars to hold beverages, using thick cotton napkins, waitresses wearing plaid shirts, and green seating. Food wise I really enjoyed the pear and arugula salad along with the cheese broccoli. We also had the steak frites, but unfortunately the steak was overcooked. But overall, I'd definitely go back to try more food."

  • "Speciality cocktails and a scrumptious dinner made a snowy night in Seattle worth it. My sig other had porkbelly and waffles and the waffle was crips and soft and the porkbelly was divine. I myself had the short rib pot roast and ate every single bite! The combination of whipped mashed potatoes and the jus sauce with spinish complemented each bite. I want to go back and try their breafkast selections."
