We decided to try Skewers because of their vegetarian and low carb menu items not to mention their great reviews. The food was delicious with enough menu options to meet everyone's dietary needs. We tried the dolmas (excellent) the garlic saffron chicken kabobs and the lamb shanks. All were succulent, flavorful and delicious. My Mom and I decided to split a plate, for which there is a $3.00 charge, and I am glad we did. The serving sizes are generous. The service was excellent and quick. We were out in plenty of time to make our 8:00 show at the Gallo theater. I am very glad we had reservations because as we were leaving there was quite the line of people waiting to be seated.

Nice neighborhood place, server excellent and hospitable girl. She even gave me as ample of the yogurt soup. Which was delicious. Noise level increased zs evening progressed. Too bad no falafels or lentils in their dishes, but they did offer sumac at the table, etc. za, atar shlild be nice too as a seasoning. They are, however, the best Persian type of resto in modesto. The belly dancing night gets rather loud, as per the music, so I rcommend gpong on other evenings if you prefer it more quiet. Very nice wait staff.

The only problem we had was we made reservations online with a confirmation email sent to us for a day they were closed but didn't know it till we showed up for dinner. That was very disappointing whereas we don't do date night very often and we were looking forward to it. But we wanted to try again and this time made reservations and called to make sure they were open. Our second visit was great. The food was delicious and service great.

It was not a busy night for them but they (waitress and manager) seem to cater to only one table in the whole place (must have been their friends). Even the two tables next to us were expressing disappointment. Then to top it off my wife and I were given the bill of the table where the manager and waitress devoted their attention to - (OVER $110 Dollars!). When I addressed this with the waitress she giggled and said her manager told her to do it! It then took over 20 minutes to rectify and give us the correct bill. When we finally got the right bill there was No apology - nothing. Additionally, the meat portion of the meal was EXTREMELY small while the entire plate was covered with dry medium warm white rice. Very disappointing.

There are plenty of good restaurants in Modesto, but we were there for the first time, and hit the right spot - thanks to OpenTable! Absolutely great kebabs, lamb shanks - and especially cabbage dolma!!! We met the owner who was going from table to table casually talking to customers, helping to remove empty dishes and bringing more tea. By 6 pm the place was packed! good thing we made an early reservation! would like to go back and try other food from a very extensive (but not expensive!) menu.

Reservations were easily booked online. Parking (and seating) is minimal so plan time to park and walk. We arrived at 7:30pm on a Saturday and the bar was empty but the restaurant had open tables. We were seated immediately. The decor is clean modern and romantic. The waiter was friendly and knowledeable. A very pretty, youthful belly dancer entertained the dining area while we waited for our food which was served quickly. The dancing was well received and enjoyable, although the music made it difficult to converse. We ordered a chicken kabob dish and a beef kabob dish. Both were tender and flavorful. The generous helping of rice (and a few veggies) was light and non-greasy. Definitely would recommend.

We have gone to Skewer's before and will continue to go as the food is not your typical find in Modesto, is well-presented, and very tasty. This time, after a warm greeting from the Hostess and being seated promptly, we ordered a house specialty cocktail which deserves its own Kudos. During dinner, we were pleasantly surprised that a belly-dancer performed. It fit the Mediterranean-style flare that Skewer's advertises. One suggestion would be, as Skewer's is on the cusp of fine dining, that they request that electronics not be used during dinner. This can be done via a simple sign or a comment of the importance of sharing a quality meal with quality time.

What can I say about Skewers? It never disappoints. From the moment my friend and I arrived to the moment we left, we were greeted by a warm and friendly staff. The food is amazing. I had the filet mingon and my friend had the lula kabob. The meats were tender and juicy. And the rice is beautiful and does not stick together, unlike those Japanese and Chinese restaurants that like to cook it that way. The yogurt drink is out of this world. Why don't more people give it a try is beyond me.

I wish I had discovered this place before my last night in town. Everything tasted wonderful. The wine list has a variety of choices and the menu makes wine suggestions which is nice.
