  • "We love coming here om summer evenings. Service was great, and fish was excellent. Ps. Bring a jacket to go to and from your car!"

  • "We dine at Skates at least annually. We were here to celibrate our 19th wedding anniversary. I proposed to my wife 20 years ago at the table in the corner over the water. It's our favorite restaurant. The fish is always great. We stay at the marina hotel for the weekend."

  • "We have an annual gathering and after trying different venues, we have decided Skates is the best. It is centrally located for our group who come from the North, East and South. It has a fabulous view for any table in the house. The food is great and varied enough for everyone. The place is open throughout the day, so it can accommodate odd times. When the group continued to vote for Skates, we decided to simply just do our annual gathering there."

  • "The place has a beautiful view of the city. The restaurant had a bunch flies at the entrance. The food took a loooong time to arrive. We continuously had to remind the waiter about our orders; however, the staff was extremely courteous and friendly. If I return it means that I was around the area, but never will drive with the purpose of eating there."

  • "Skates on the Bay offers a spectacular view of SF Bay -- sailboats, rowers, geese, the Bay bridges. The fish offerings were very, very good, as were the accompaniments. The waiter and wine stewardess were particularly helpful. The restaurant can be somewhat noisy."

  • "Great location but has only average food, perhaps a good place for a drink with a view. Food was not bad but would not recommend it for the price. I had sushi which was very average and my guest had the special sliders which were not so great. We loved the location and view"

  • "Better than expected ! Wonderful meal great service and what a view! Highly recommend. Our server Tony, one of the best!"

  • " My daughter and her boyfriend thought this would be the perfect place to take me as I love lobster and a view of the water. The view was lovely and so was the restaurant, but the food was cold, a pet peiv of mine. Cold mash potatoes and lobster, not good. Oh they did finally come to see how things were and reheated my food, but this is not a inexpensive restaurant and for me it was ruined. I did not share my disappointment with my daughter but Im in no hurry to return to this establishment ."

  • "This was a great dining experience. My wife and daughter took my out for my Birthday which was July 1st. My request was to dine at Skates. The food is remarkable. The service was beyond great."

  • "Food was great and so was the service. We had a window looking towards the Golden Gate Bridge. When the sun set the sunset was outstanding. We live ninety miles from this restaurant in the valley. My wife loves this restaurant for dinner and special occasion"

  • "We have been dining here for quite a few years and the bread was always great! When they took away the bread and brought in the sushi bar it was not a welcome change. But, apparently they listened to their customers because the bread is back! Oh, we know it's not baked in their ovens but it was still delicious and just great that it was back!"

  • "First I must say I have been eating at Skates for at least 15 years and have always had great food and great service, But on Sunday the 29th of June when we went for Brunch I found a complete downfall in the food quality and service. I ordered the Ham Omelette, it came sitting on a plate with a bunch of dried out, cold potatoe squares, that were unseasoned and nothing else...Very visually unappealing and the spud squares were tasteless..My date had Eggs Benedict,, 2 Crab Cakes with 2 unappealing sorta/kinda cooked eggs on top with a tablespoon or so of sauce smeared on top and the same Spud Squares that I had. No Garnish, No nothing..I think there may have been a lone Strawbeery sitting forlornly on the plate. The Server forgot our bread.."

  • "The views are spectacular. The food was good. I had the Halibit Cheeks - they were pretty good if a bit stringy. It was more about the views than the food, really. The service was very good but that probably had something to do with my spectacularly beautiful daughter than anything else. :)"

  • "When I have friends visiting from out of town, if they like seafood I always take them to Skates. There's a very good, reasonably priced raw bar as well as a small selection of classic seafood dishes. Otherwise, the menu is skimpy. Decent wine selection and full bar. The main reason to dine at Skates isn't the food, but the fabulous views across San Francisco Bay to the City and Marin County. Best, therefore, on a sunny day."

  • "We came to celebrate 2 College graduations. The service was really poor and all the staff seem to hate their jobs, hardly a smile to be found. When our dinner arrived, we had to flag down a busboy and ask to have all the empty cocktail glasses and appetizer plates removed. The food was bland, which unfortunately is something to expect from places with such a great view, and it all came at room temp. Also, why bother to ask if it is a special occasion when you book the table (and when we checked in at reception, and by the waitress), if they are not going to do anything. I might go back because of the location, but only for drinks and an appetizer. Definitely not worth the over $200 spent."

  • "Skates is one of our favorite places, especially for out of town guests and special occasions. The view is spectacular and the excellent food and service is a bonus."

  • "My family and I usually go to Skates for special occasions or just for a change of scenery. We went to Skates on this date to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The service was excellent. The food was good, but not "great" as I've had in the passed. This will continue to be a favorite of ours."

  • "Really great seafood with a wonderful view of San Francisco Bay."

  • "view was gorgeous being on the bay, the food was delicious with ample portions, our waitress was wonderful. It was a fine dining experience well worth the price of the ticket. A must if you are in the area."

  • "Tawnya Taylor-Michel, the general manager, has done a stellar job at resurrecting Skates On The Bay into a renaissance monument with the best view anywhere in the Bay Area. Although the formal entrees are not reasonably priced, the selections are tasteful. A reservation through Open Table the same day gets you a window seat, even on a weekend evening. My roommate and I (both on a budget) opted for the sushi: the California Roll for him and the Rainbow Roll for me, more elaborately presented with large pieces like technicolor art work, followed by a special peach cobbler and a New York Cheesecake for my roommate who had never experienced such a piece of Americana since he left Seoul in the Republic of Korea as a trained chef!"

  • "Skates on the Bay has an incredible view of the bay, and that's really its main claim to fame. The food is good, but over-priced. You can get a much better meal for less elsewhere. But for a special occasion where you're willing to open your wallet for the "wow" factor of the view, it's a fun option."

  • "Water view restaurants tend to be expensive and underwhelming. At Skates you can almost feel the waves if you have a window seat. The food is pricey but the portion sizes are mostly generous and the preparation excellent and imaginative. The Mahi was done to perfection with a delicious sauce. The daily special of halibut cheeks was superb. Pear bread pudding was wonderfully decadent and even the decaf coffee was delicious."

  • "One of our favorite restaurants really disappointed us. We came here for a special celebration and left with a bad aftertaste. What happened to the food?? Low quality ingredients...We were so disappointed in our appetizers (sushi) and entrees (surf n turf and scallops) that we didn't even stay for dessert. We will not be back."

  • "our group of 20 had a wonderful dinner after the happy hour at the bar. Food and service was great. Please do not leave any valuables in your car or trunk. Someone broken into our trunk between 630-7 pm, even with a patrol guard at the parking lot in front of the restaurant."

  • "I had stopped going to Skates because the food quality was not what it used to be, but they have clearly made some excellent changes. We were both pleased with our food and the service. As for the ambiance, it can't be beat. Try to time your visit to include the sun setting over the Bay."

  • "Regardless of how busy it was Skate's staff ensured that we were taken care of! I come to Skate's quite often and it never disappoints including this busy Father's Day... thanks for the complimentary Lobster Tail and Oysters!!! Sunday breakfast with Absolut Bloody Mary bar is a must try if you've never been there."

  • "I truly enjoyed and enjoy dining at Skates each and every time I am there. Especially this past Father's day was very enjoyable..."

  • " Great venue, but very old school food. Impossible to have a bad table. Service on the slow side."
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "The location of our table was not conducive to eating. My entree was cold. The wait staff was inconsiderate. Overall, my son's Father's Day Dinner sucked!!"
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "The service staff is very friendly and helpful. Our waitress did forgot the specials of the day, but she quickly recovered. The booths built for two people seating is a little tight, but the table is close. Great place, exellent views of the Bay, and good food."

  • "We come to Skates on special occasions, for this visit it was to celebrate a birthday. I requested a table with a view and that's what we got. Food is very good."
    Dined on 6/12/2014
  • "The view of the Bay is fantastic. The menu is so varied and we have NEVER been disappointed in service or food. The wait staff are professional but not stuffy even though they work in one of the finest restaurants. I am partial to the seafood entrees - salmon burger and open face crab sandwich are my favorites! The French fries are the best."
