However, if you go, be aware that when you sign up for the tasting menu you're committing yourself to a three-hour experience. We thought at first the kitchen was slow, but the wait staff indicated this was average."

  • "This is now one of the top four places I have had a meal in. The service was impeccable. The food was truly outstanding. Presentation, flavor combinations where beyond approach. The tasting menu with wine parings was portioned out well. Many different courses but you didn't feel too full...just satisfied. This isn't a place that you would go to once a week. It is a worthwhile journey to try many times in a year."

  • "Food was fantastic, servers were great, nine course meal planned out thoughtfully. First five course served evenly spaced.with wine pairings...then nothing...went for 25 minutes with no courses or even an explanation of why the next course wasn't served..until I told the staff we were done. Very difficult to get up and leave but like the old saying goes...if you think you want more food wait 20 minutes and you probably won't. Just couldn't justify keeping my guest out past 11pm for a unfinished dinner that started at 8:30. Get your game on and perhaps you can be a top calibre restaurant. One other thing...never ever....let the water glasses sit empty on the table at the beginning of the meal....always a bad sign of service to come."

  • "Sixteen is an experience I was glad to have, but I will not return. It was quite expensive, which we anticipated. There were no menu choices, which we had not anticipated. It is strictly a prix fixe menu with a shorter and a longer version. The food was tied to the history of Chicago and so it was inventive and well-prepared, but the presentation was gimmicky rather than beautiful or exceptional. The service was brisk (hurried?), the lighting high, and nothing that invited one to linger over the meal or to enjoy the view. Chicago has far finer restaurants than Sixteen and at this price level I would choose them rather than Sixteen."

  • "Sixteen is a 2 STAR Michelin rated restaurant which is impressive but it could be much better. First, it is a fixed priced tasting menu which ranges from $150.00 to $250.00 per person depending on which option you choose. While I enjoyed some of the small portioned dishes, some of them were simply tasteless and unappealing. The problem is that you must take the dishes that are designated for your tasting menu, some of which are either raw fish or game such as elk, venison etc. It seems that the chef is trying to appeal to a very limited audience which was confirmed by the fact that there were only 3 occupied tables in the restaurant at 7:30 p.m. I would recommend that Sixteen offer an a la carte menu, too!"

  • "We ordered the Express line menu on the Chicago history based winter fare. We were enthralled by the food from the word go. Our table was given an hour late!! But it was made up by giving us one of the best champagne while we waited. We were not super hungry so it worked out okay. Our wine bottle was upgraded too as the one we ordered was out of stock. So drinks wise we lucked out. They served their own sparkling water from a machine, for free, unlimited. Loved that too. The food was just art."

The beverage pairing (mainly wine, with one cocktail and one Goose Island Matilda) contributed to our enjoyment of the meal. Of course the view from the dining room cannot be beat.   • "They had a new menu when we were there. Foods were served high class family style. The price compared to the last time we were there have doubled, I wasn't expecting that. I know what to expect when your in a place where the 1% only eat, this is not a bad thing, just a tad bit out of where I am comfortable with spending. However, food and the experience were awesome, the staff was more friendly and more willing to talk. Part of the meal was hearing the story of the food, which kind of took you on a culinary adventure. The big question is, was it worth the money? and would I go again knowing the price of standard they have set? Yes, if I make a bit more then I currently do. However, for the above middle class, this place is out of reach."

We opted out of the wine pairings and the sommelier (Dan Pilkey) did a wonderful job picking out a Gigondas that paired well with a majority of the courses. Al of the servers did an excellent job with food presentation and description without being pretentious, but Dan truly stood out as he visited our table multiple times throughout the course of the meal to ensure the wine was to our satisfaction."

  • "When I want a really fine lunch, Sixteen comes immediately to mind. Yes, it’s pricey -- but to celebrate special occasions, it’s at the top of my list. Today’s visit was perfect in every regard (possibly due, in part, to the fact that it was lunch, and therefore uncrowded). The menu for lunch is straightforward: choose two, three or four courses for corresponding fixed prices. Not much point in highlighting the individual dishes since the menu changes often. The food was excellent, that service friendly yet finely polished, the ambiance comfortably elegant. I wish I was rich instead of just good-looking -- I’d go to Sixteen at least once a week."
