Diner Reviews
  • "Sixteen is fantastic, the entire experience was great!"

  • "Had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner. Creative, at times borderline garish presentations, but delicious throughout. A wonderful night, but for the price (and in comparison to other top level restaurants in the Bay Area and New York) the service was a tad uneven. Still, would love to return if I am back in Chicago."

  • "This has really become one of the "must do" places in the city for creative presentations and wonderful flavors. However, if you go, be aware that when you sign up for the tasting menu you're committing yourself to a three-hour experience. We thought at first the kitchen was slow, but the wait staff indicated this was average."

  • "We went for a birthday celebration for 3 out of 4 of us. This is a special occasion dining experience kind of place. The food was outstanding, the service was impeccable. I'm not going to lie, I had NO IDEA the tasting menu was the only dining option, at $185. Per person it would have been nice to know that going in, it is not anywhere on the website. It was a lovely, special albeit expensive evening."

  • "LET MS START BY SAYING WE DINE OUT AT UPSCALE RESTAURANTS OFTEN. OUR EXPERIENCE AT SIXTEEN WAS NOT VERY GOOD. WE HAD THE 5 COURSE TASTING MENU WHICH WAS $105 ON THE WEBSITE BUT $125 AT THE RESTAURANT..ASIDE FROM THAT THE FOOD WAS OK BUT NOT WORTH THE PRICE ESPECIALLY SINCE WE LEFT HUNGRY. CHICAGO HAS MANY GREAT PLACES TO ENJOY FINE DINING, THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM."

  • "This is now one of the top four places I have had a meal in. The service was impeccable. The food was truly outstanding. Presentation, flavor combinations where beyond approach. The tasting menu with wine parings was portioned out well. Many different courses but you didn't feel too full...just satisfied. This isn't a place that you would go to once a week. It is a worthwhile journey to try many times in a year."

  • "Food was fantastic, servers were great, nine course meal planned out thoughtfully. First five course served evenly spaced.with wine pairings...then nothing...went for 25 minutes with no courses or even an explanation of why the next course wasn't served..until I told the staff we were done. Very difficult to get up and leave but like the old saying goes...if you think you want more food wait 20 minutes and you probably won't. Just couldn't justify keeping my guest out past 11pm for a unfinished dinner that started at 8:30. Get your game on and perhaps you can be a top calibre restaurant. One other thing...never ever....let the water glasses sit empty on the table at the beginning of the meal....always a bad sign of service to come."

  • "Nice but not worth the price. Too pretentious.....too stuffy."
    Dined on 12/6/2013
  • "The food and service was excellent. I was disappointed with the view. Mainly looking at other residential and office buildings. The dining space is very chopped u,p with two smaller rooms, two corridors, and one bigger room. The main dining room was beautiful, I am glad I was seated there."
    Dined on 3/23/2014
  • "The serving stations offer a wide variety of sweets and savories; seafood is phenomenal; all handsomely presented and continually refreshed. And it tastes very good! And, under the watchful eye of the Wrigley Building Clock."

  • "The creative menu paired to Chicago's history Was amazing ! Did I mention the incredible Views------a perfect ending. Each course was complex thoughtful and paired To excellent wine choices . The service was attentive and knowledgable to complete The evening and experience ."

  • "The combination of theme and presentation is only beat by Alinea in Chicago. And, although at Trump, was far from pretentious and in fact impressively welcoming."
    Dined on 3/17/2014
  • "The meal was so creative and delicious and satisfying . The staff were informative, just superb. The whole evening was just amazing."

  • "There is nothing I enjoy more than weekday power breakfast at Sixteen. Their service is impeccable, the dining room is beautiful in the morning, and their food is delicious."
    Dined on 3/12/2014
  • "I expected the food to be great, especially considering the two Michelin stars, and it was (winter twenty course "All Day Pass" tasting menu with wine matching), but the service we received was beyond any expectation I had. Truly fantastic! Incredibly knowledgable and very friendly. Looking forward to the next menu."

  • "Sixteen is an experience I was glad to have, but I will not return. It was quite expensive, which we anticipated. There were no menu choices, which we had not anticipated. It is strictly a prix fixe menu with a shorter and a longer version. The food was tied to the history of Chicago and so it was inventive and well-prepared, but the presentation was gimmicky rather than beautiful or exceptional. The service was brisk (hurried?), the lighting high, and nothing that invited one to linger over the meal or to enjoy the view. Chicago has far finer restaurants than Sixteen and at this price level I would choose them rather than Sixteen."

  • "Wonderful and interesting food... with a thoughtful theme. Knowledgeable staff about both the food and Chicago history. Staff was attentive but not "over present". The music carefully chosen to match the menu. Great attention to every detail"

  • "We were there for my wife's birthday. Had a ball. 20 courses, 4.5 hours. Too much wine - we shared a wine pairing. The theme was fun and interesting. Food was great. Unsure if it is as good as Grace. Better than L2O."

  • "I would suggest that everyone in their time here in Chicago experience Sixteen. It's not a place you eat at weekly but if your finances allow for it please experience 16. Truly an amazing dinning experience."

  • "Went to Sixteen to celebrate a special occasion. From the moment we stepped off the elevator the experience began,."

  • "Sixteen is our favourite restaurant in Chicago. The food is always imaginative and delicious and the presentation is second to none.A definite plus is that you don't need to jump through hoops to get a reservation at a reasonable time!"

  • "Sixteen is a 2 STAR Michelin rated restaurant which is impressive but it could be much better. First, it is a fixed priced tasting menu which ranges from $150.00 to $250.00 per person depending on which option you choose. While I enjoyed some of the small portioned dishes, some of them were simply tasteless and unappealing. The problem is that you must take the dishes that are designated for your tasting menu, some of which are either raw fish or game such as elk, venison etc. It seems that the chef is trying to appeal to a very limited audience which was confirmed by the fact that there were only 3 occupied tables in the restaurant at 7:30 p.m. I would recommend that Sixteen offer an a la carte menu, too!"

  • "We ordered the Express line menu on the Chicago history based winter fare. We were enthralled by the food from the word go. Our table was given an hour late!! But it was made up by giving us one of the best champagne while we waited. We were not super hungry so it worked out okay. Our wine bottle was upgraded too as the one we ordered was out of stock. So drinks wise we lucked out. They served their own sparkling water from a machine, for free, unlimited. Loved that too. The food was just art."
    Dined on 2/22/2014
  • "Creative idea to tell the history of Chicago through re-imagined food. Many dishes were outstanding, all were interesting. The beverage pairing (mainly wine, with one cocktail and one Goose Island Matilda) contributed to our enjoyment of the meal. Of course the view from the dining room cannot be beat. Service was outstanding. This was our first visit and was memorable."

  • "Not one reason to go to this restaurant. You can catch the view elsewhere. The proportions were ridiculously small. We asked for bread since after the 7th course we were starving and they were the size of a crouton."
    Dined on 2/22/2014
  • "Amazing experience! The menu and presentation was so creative - and the wine pairings were spot on. I can't wait to come back and try a different seasonal menu!"
    Dined on 2/22/2014
  • "The menu was difficult to read and understand. The portions were too small and the price too high. Never will I go there again."
    Dined on 2/19/2014
  • "Made reservations and wasn't informed of price fix menue. The menue nice but still hungry at end and when asked for more bread assured it would come but for three courses never did. Service felt rushed. For the money I expected much more."

  • "Nice view, very good brunch buffee and an overall super experience."
    Dined on 2/16/2014
  • "It is a very costly meal, but it and the wine pairing is well worth it. The food was presented amazingly. Most of the wine tastings that came with the dinner were very good."

  • "I took my boss here as a thank you and I was not disappointed. The service was exceptional as was the view. The food was outstanding as one would expect as we enjoyed our leisurely lunch by the window."

  • "They had a new menu when we were there. Foods were served high class family style. The price compared to the last time we were there have doubled, I wasn't expecting that. I know what to expect when your in a place where the 1% only eat, this is not a bad thing, just a tad bit out of where I am comfortable with spending. However, food and the experience were awesome, the staff was more friendly and more willing to talk. Part of the meal was hearing the story of the food, which kind of took you on a culinary adventure. The big question is, was it worth the money? and would I go again knowing the price of standard they have set? Yes, if I make a bit more then I currently do. However, for the above middle class, this place is out of reach."

  • "Sixteen is my favorite breakfast place. The ambience is so lovely and I love the chai tea. I try to eat breakfast there every time I am in town."
    Dined on 1/26/2014
  • "Breathtakingly expensive. As is the food and view and service. The most creative taxing menu I have ever done."
    Dined on 1/25/2014
  • "This was an amazing evening. The menu told an unbelievable history of Chicago with food and whimsy that will not be forgotten. We had the 20 course meal and we were full but not stuffed so the protion sizes and pace of the meal were excellent."
    Dined on 1/25/2014
  • "The 20 course meal was a wonderful culinary tour of the history of Chicago. We opted out of the wine pairings and the sommelier (Dan Pilkey) did a wonderful job picking out a Gigondas that paired well with a majority of the courses. Al of the servers did an excellent job with food presentation and description without being pretentious, but Dan truly stood out as he visited our table multiple times throughout the course of the meal to ensure the wine was to our satisfaction."

  • "Went their Saturday Jan 18 - service was not attentive, food was average, the history of Chicago theme was not well executed in terms of the story telling and content. Basically our party of four expected a lot better - the experience was not up to the standard we expected - given Sixteen is ranked up there along side some Chicago classics"
    Dined on 1/18/2014
  • "Too expensive and little options since you have to us the pre-selected menu. Also, food quantities were small and took awhile to get the service started. The first table we had was in the corner in the small dining room and had to wait to get another table....even though I asked for a nice table via Open Table. For a 5 star restaurant I would not waste my time or money."

  • "Sixteen's Winter Menu--The Story of Chicago--is the most creative and memorable dining experience that I can remember. The premium wines (1997 Harlan Cab!) paired with the twenty course tasting menu demonstrate that Chef Lents and Som Dan Pilkey are not satisfied resting on their recent accolades (two Michelin stars; five Mobil diamonds); they're striving to be the second three-star Michelin restaurant in Chicago. This ground-breaking multi-media event makes their case brilliantly. Amazing!"
