Six Penn KitchenGood food, but noisyThe food was great -- I had a crab-stuffed flounder, the night's special. Everyone' s meals were very enjoyable. Noise level made it difficult to carry on a conversation across the table though, same as we had encountered in the past. Perhaps on a non-theatre night it would be less difficult.....6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMDefinitely recommend Six PennGreat restaurant. Just a very short short walk from Heinz Hall where we went for a show. Food was great and service was too. Our waitress (Jessica) was very friendly and attentive to us as were the others who were helping her out with our table. We will definitely come back again!6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent serverVery attentive and personable; knowledgeable of menu. Our food was very good as usual. Totally loved the pizza appetizer. My only suggestion would be this- I had the short rib pie. I would have enjoyed it much more had I not gottenmouthfuls of fat with my first bites. Recommend trimming better so customers don't have to. It became tedious to eat it.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMI've eaten in this restaurantI've eaten in this restaurant quite a few times and can only remember one time being disappointed.
Food is inventive and well prepared (although a little heavy on the olive oil in the veg gnocchi this time). Wait staff us competent and friendly. They are also very aware when we've had theater tickets; plenty of time for a leisurely dinner but still getting to the show on time.
Calamari here is one of our favorites anywhere.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMUnfortunately, our table wasUnfortunately, our table was near a very large table where a birthday was being celebrated. This group was VERY LOUD and it did affect our dining experience negatively. We were entertaining friends from Seattle and were barely able to carry on a conversation.
Ideally, we should have requested another table, but it seems that the restaurant was very busy at that time.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing EntreesThe pork shank is especially delicious. It reminds me of duck: it's dark, tender, and very flavorful. It's the best thing we had, though I also recommend the scallops appetizer.
Dessert wasn't as good as the spectacular entrees, but they're still good.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food; friendly serviceI took out of town guests to Six Penn after a performance at CLO. The spirit of the place was great fun. Our waitress was friendly and helpful in delivering a small birthday surprise to one of the guests. Thanks!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMNight CapGreat way to cap off a Friday night. We had a glass of wine and dessert. Both of which were excellent!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWaiter was excellent. DidWaiter was excellent. Did his job without being intrusive. We were near the kitchen so it was a noisy distraction. Perfect place for meeting friends before attending theater.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesomeI have not eaten at Six Penn Kitchen in many years. My co-worker and friend recommended the place for her 40th birthday celebration lunch. Lunch was excellent, the server was very knowledgeable, and the atmosphere was vibrant.
I am looking forward to my next lunch at Six Penn Kitchen to try out other items on the menu. Wondering if the restaurant has take out in case I cannot make it for a sit down lunch.
An excellent restaurant to enjoy great food!!6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMSmall snackGreat place to get a small snack and a few drinks while waiting for others going to a show.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMBrunchBrunch was delicious! Everything we ordered was prepared and plated well. Service was wonderful and professional. Definitely will be back!6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMVery goodAlways good for Sunday brunch (dinner too!), especially if you're in the Cultural District area, or even on your way to PNC Park. I've been there a number of times, and I've not been disappointed yet. There are many good restaurants in this part of Pittsburgh, but Six Penn is certainly one of the best.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesomeGreat food and service. The server was able to give a great wine recommendation. I will definitely go
back6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and service. HoweverGreat food and service. However not terribly intimate and very noisy.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMFine DiningFantastic time. Wonderful sangria! Seafood hash had one the best crabcakes I've ever had! 6 penn circus for dessert was so creative and well worth the money. Easily enough for 4. Full and satisfied when leaving. Definitely check it out!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMA great place with a great staffFantasticly helpful staff and great food. The beer list was adequate, and the dessert was amazing- get the circus!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is a very well run restaurant. This is a very well run restaurant. The food was excellent and they were able to handle pre-Pirates and Pre-Penguin crowds without service or food quality problems. The pregamers did make it very noisy downstairs, a little less so on the second floor. I will go here again which is the real test for any dining experience.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat downtown eateryIn the heart of cultural district. Wonderful menu. I have to go back because its so hard to choose since everything sounds wonderful. The Crackling pork shank was delicious with enough leftover for lunch the next day. Dessert, Six Penn Circus was so fun....cotton candy, homemade crackerjacks, whoopee pie cookies, etc. enough to share with at least 4 others.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMLike this placeWE have visited this restaurant several times and enjoy it before a game or the theatre. The food and service are good and be expedited if you have plans. They serve a great cosmopolitan!! It is a bit loud but not unbearable.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a reliable experience.....Whenever we are in the mood for a GREAT meal, we head to Six Penn Kitchen for a dining experience. From the killer Rob Roy and Bloody Mary, we moved to the flash-fried calamari/shrimp, our favorite appetizer anywhere. then Caesar salad done just right, and finally our main courses, which were amazing. Our server was attentive but not overbearing. We were not rushed through the meal, but allowed to linger over dessert until WE were ready to depart. It was a busy night there, with the Pirate game in town as well as the Penguin play-offs, but you would have thought we were the only people in that restaurant by the way we were treated. Bravo!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMFun stop before the theatreGoing to the cultural district 6-Penn is the perfect stop. The menu is varied enough for a quick bite or a full dinner experience. The staff is very polite and will move your dinner along without rushing you when you have event tickets. The server suggested the soft shell crabs and she did not steer me wrong. A beautiful lamb shank was just the ticket for my husband and the mixed seafood was another hit at the table. They did a nice ceased salad but there was a little too much dressing. We have been here before and would deffinetly go back.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Mother's Day BrunchI have loved Six Penn Kitchen for their rooftop bar for many years now. This year I needed a new, low stress place to take Mom for Mother's Day. I was able to reserve the table, and when we arrived early, they seated us almost immediately. The meal was pleasant, and the wait staff was attentive without being overbearing. Mom says it was her best brunch in a decade, so something tells me we'll be going back!!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMNot up to usual standardsAlways liked this place in the past, so went for Mother's Day brunch...disappointing: Some entrees were lukewarm, Eggs Benedict was doughy, service was not as attentive as it should have been. Always a plus are the easy (validated discount) parking across the street and the roomy, comfortable dining (especially upstairs). It is still one of our favorite places, but on this trip the restaurant had an off day.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWill be back!Food was great! Definitely try the tofu app. I'm far from a vegetarian and loved it! Great service, already planning our next visit when we're in Pittsburgh again.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a pleasure! My husband and I have dined at Six Penn many times since their opening. We had a great time on Monday celebrating his birthday! Love the staff.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWill go back!Very nice dining room with open kitchen. Great place to people watch. We had the charcuterie appetizer which features many local selections. I had the crab cake, and my wife had the crispy pork shank. Both were excellent. Great bar selection, and a large wine list. I had JW Blue scotch, and she had a strawberry basil mojito. Service was super! She knew we were going to a show, and made sure we were out on time.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous, as always. My familyFabulous, as always. My family always loves to go to Six Penn Kitchen. Every meal has been great and the wait staff is friendly and professional. It is a comfortable place to dine.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMRepeat customerWe have brunch at six Penn each time we go to the Sunday Opera (4 times a year). It is something we look forward to and have never been disappointed. The food is excellent and nicely presented. The service staff are courteous and friendly. I strongly recommend reservations, particularly in the Spring.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious BrunchWow, their brunch menu was a great twist on the traditional favorites. Not only was everything delicious, but also large portions to leave everyone feeling full. Will definitely be back!5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMBecause of Marathon traffic,Because of Marathon traffic, I called to have the table held. They were so kind; we were 30 min. late. Service was outstanding, and brunch food delicious!5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding food and serviceService and food at Six penn are outstanding. Noise level can be very high making it difficult to have an easy conversation.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently great!Always great food! Not the run-of-the-mill menu which I love. Server forgot our appetizer order then brought it after the salads when we pointed it out. Did apologize for that.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMQuick service if neededSix Penn does a fine job of getting you out the door in time if you're attending a show or the theatre. Just let your server know. We eat here every time we're going to Heinz Hall or the Benedum. And you can always count on good food and service. Their complimentary peppermints are among the best I've ever savored.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic!!I took my boyfriend here for his birthday on a recommendation from a friend and he absolutely loved it! Fantastic cocktails, delicious appetizers, stunning entrees, and scrumptious desserts! I couldn't have asked for anything more :) I highly recommend it!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Business Lunch SceneThis is a great business lunch restaurant. Upscale food at a good price with great service and an accessible downtown location. VERY CONSISTENT! Diverse menu so I can go oftern. My go to lunch spot!5/1/2013 12:00:00 AM'Burgh BoundWe stopped in for an early meal before a show and left very satisfied. The food had great flavor combinations, with a bar selection to match. Our service was outstanding! We left full since the portions are generous, but it didn't stop us from getting dessert to go. Everything was delicious! Can't wait to go back!4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMA Wonderful Start of an Evening OutService was fabulous, the appetizers were magnificent and the entrees to die for!
Daniel and the staff of Six & Penn Kitchen made us feel right at home, especially when we mentioned that we were celebrating a birthday & anniversary with dinner and a concert show nearby. The entrees of steak and the salmon special suggested by our server Daniel were excellent! As we were deciding what to have after dinner, Daniel surprised us with desserts that topped off the evening's meal! Thank you Six & Penn Kitchen!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMInteresting menu. Good service.Interesting menu. Good service. GenerallyInnovative stuff.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMOpen and roomy. ExcellentOpen and roomy. Excellent food and service. Large entres. You won't leave hungry.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMSome of the best food in PittsburghSome of the best food in Pittsburgh. Get the cracklin pork shank, it is so amazing. This place has amazing food for great prices.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, slow serviceFood, as always, was spectacular. Service was a little slow, but the restaurant was busy.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMCracklin Pork Shank - Yum!We were in on a quiet Thursday night, quickly seated and served, which was good for us... no crowd. My husband had the cracklin pork shank which was crazy good (crispy on the outside but not a bit dry... it was tender and well seasoned). I've eaten a variety of pork in my lifetime, but this was my absolute favorite and so different! I had the warm beet salad which was served with goat cheese and greens... it was SO delicious. I'd eat there again should we return to Pittsburgh.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMI was surprised that theyI was surprised that they had a nice kids menu available.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMRestaurant was quite nice.Restaurant was quite nice. Menu was creative and the food was delicious. Drink menu was very nice and I had one of the best manhattans I'd ever drank. Place was crowded even on a Monday night. Thought the service was good, but not over the top as you would expect from a place as pricy as this.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Burger in the Burgh!Went to Six Penn after a CLO show so we were eatling later than usual.
We had Calamari & Shrimp for an appetizer, we all ordered Gourmet Burgers [highly unusual for us to all order the same thing] and Buffalo chicken mac & cheese dinner to split 4 ways.
Everything was excellent! -the burgers may have been the best I have ever had in Pittsburgh. They are topped with capicola, mozzarella,a fried egg an a great tangy BBQ vinaigrette.
I only ate half - because I was full {took it home and enjoyed it the next day for lunch]
The Mac and Cheese is super tasty, rich and satisfying...don't know who could eat one themself for dinner but wow, you cant go wrong with that dish.
We will be back sooner than later4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMMy family and I enjoy ourMy family and I enjoy our diner at your Restaurant. We had driven into Pittsburgh for a weekend trip and had a late diner at the Restaurant. The location was great. The food was very good. Appreciate the waitress who was very good server and helped our family.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWe really enjoyed our mealWe really enjoyed our meal at Six Penn Kitchen. Our server was very attentive and made great recommendations, including suggesting an off menu preparation for the item I was ordering (which was fantastic). The twists on classic dishes were all artfully prepared, delicious and memorable. The restaurant was busy and vibrant, and the location was very convenient coming from site-seeing around downtown Pittsburgh. Our only regret was that we were too full to try one of the many interesting desserts! We will definitely be back if we are in the area again.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMInteresting selection of foodInteresting selection of food - something for everyone and all of it is good. 6 Penn offers a great mix of flavors and offerings. The view to the outside isn't the best, but I Love the close proximity to Heinz Hall, and, obviously, the entire Cultural District, and a parking garage. The atmosphere is a bit on the noisy side, but that is to be expected in a "kitchen" environment; it is clean and open, not stuffy at all. Overall, a good place to eat before a show, or for a nice meal anytime. The staff is very pleaseant and accommodating.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was very good. OurThe food was very good. Our service was exceptional. But, it's quite noisy and almost difficult to talk.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
