Diner Reviews
  • "The fried chicken was a good as my friend promised--reminded me of my grandmother's. Want to go back to try a number of other items."

  • "I'm becoming a peace tartan , and the special entrée of the night with lobster was amazing!! The okra is always on point. I'll be back..spoken like the terminator!"

  • "Consistently good food hear and excellent cocktail menu with some interesting things on it. Ths problem with this place is the patio seating. If you get seated out there and you are not part of a really large group, you may be a little overwhelmed. Really loud with the tile floor and plastic roof. Try to sit inside if you've got fewer than 6 people."

  • "We visited Sissy's for the first time on Saturday. The fried green tomatoes with the shrimp remoulade was fantastic. The other appetizer we ordered, the crispy ribs were dry and a little under seasoned and sauce with them not remarkable. The gumbo was great! My husband had the quail, which was very well prepared and I had the pork chop, which I loved. Then dessert, where we tried the Better than Sex Chocolate Cake. It was so rich. I just wish it had a little more of the crunchy peanut sauce. I loved that part and next time will ask for more. Other all a great experience. I will go again!!"

  • "We came to celebrate. Friends had told us we were in for a special treat at Sissy's Southern Kitchen and Bar. First, we had Fried Green Tomatoes and the Wedge Salad. Excellent. We were tempted by the Specials. We had the Pecan Crusted Troat from those and the Short Ribs. We finished with the Buttermilk Pecan Pie, which was not impressive. Overall it was exceptional. Our waitress was attentive, efficient and friendly. We will go back!!"

  • "From the moment you are greeted at the door this restaurant is a delightful experience. The staff was knowledgeable and pleasant, along with a deliciously diverse menu. The atmosphere was inviting and comfortable yet with a rustic down home appeal. The food was brought out in a timely fashion and was just as tasty as imagined. I would recommend this for a great low key dinner and lunch restaurant with wonderful food and a comfortable and relaxing bar area."

  • "We had a delightful time. We ordered the fried chicken bucket along with a few appetizers and several sides. The family style presentation fit our occasion perfectly. We were all wowed by the desserts, but all of the food was extremely tasty. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. The noise level is high, but it did not detract from our enjoyment. This was my second visit to Sissy's. I am sure to return to keep trying out the menu!"

  • "Everything we ate was amazing...fried green tomatoes, okra, green beans, asparagus, Deviled eggs...a must try is the fried chicken!! The chicken is hands down the best I have EVER tasted and I'm from Georgia :) Make your reservation NOW!"

  • "Ate at the bar. Terrific cocktails. Wonderful food. Friendly service from front door throughout the rest of our meal. Can't wait to come back. Fortunate to be a born & raised southern girl, you are after mine own heart Sissy's!!!!!"

  • "Overpriced for the quantity of food you receive. $18 at lunch for shrimp and grits (no sides) and only 4 shrimp. Not worth the value."

  • "Excellent service. Vibrant atmosphere. Unique drink and food selections. Fried green tomatoes, topped with shrimp remoulade, were awesome. Fried chicken was very good--juicy and not greasy. Expensive ($16 cocktails and $9 side dishes)."

  • "food was just ok, eggs came out cold and scorced . Salad was described on on the menu as three beet salad...exactly three slices of beets and mixed greens that were hard and unetible. never questioned by waitress as to how was it or why didn't you eat the salad. my last time to Sissys."

  • "I've been to Sissy's several times before, but always during the dinner rush. I brought in visitors from London on the Fourth of July for a great Southern meal before fireworks. The food was great and they loved the Southern vibe of the decor. Our server was very attentive and engaging, he even briefly chatted about our celebrations: birthday and engagement. He suggested an amazing drink for one guest, which he was in love with! My only complaint was that it was extremely quiet, as we were there around 6 PM (only time available for a reservation). They missed out a little on the great energy it has when the restaurant is full of diners. Otherwise, a great night!"

  • "As a chef i critique restaurant harshly, and Sissy's Southern Kitchen was superb. The only downfall I had of the place was the noise level, which wasn't too bothering but very much noticeable. But seeing as how they have such a great environment it called for such noise as there wasn't a open seat in the restaurant. My waiter whom I believe name is Ben was excellent. Catered to all of our needs in a timely manner, and was very kind professional. My date and I both Bharat the the 2 piece with mash potatoes wich was cooked perfectly love the savory flavor of the chicken and moistness. The brown gravy was the best part for me as I am very big on sauces. The flavor and balance of salt, sweet, spice, acidity flavor and mouth feel was excellent."

  • "The only thing I have to complain about is our reservation was at 8 and we finally got seated at 8:30. Other than that the food is amazing. I am looking forward to going back at some point. If you haven't had the squash puppies I highly suggest that!"

  • "Babe's fans probably won't think it is any better, but for something different it was good. Chicken portions are smaller and a little more than Babe's (because of location). Chicken has a little more of a spice than Babe's and is cooked a little more crispy. I would definitely go back. Want to try some of the other entrees and sides. Prefer Babe's, but nothing wrong with Sissy's!"

  • "The wait staff was AMAZING!! We sat on the screened patio and I didn't like seeing all the valet guys running back and forth. The food is a little overpriced, but is was delicious. I think that because the neighborhood that it is in they price the food based on that. I would definitely go back to be able to try more on the menu, and enjoy the friendliness of the waitstaff."

  • "Great food, service was a little slow and the restaurant is noisy making it hard to have conversations at times but would definitely recommend for the food alone."

  • "This is a small restaurant, right next to Hibiscus (they share the same Valet). My expectations were somewhat low when I entered the restaurant. It is fairly small, and the interior decor is dark. But, the food is very good, and true to Southern cooking. The prices are very reasonable, and we spent (two people) just over $120 for food, drinks, and dessert. The Red Fish, and the Beef Short Ribs were outstanding."

  • "The food was wonderful. Wait staff a pleasure as well! Definitely going back!"

  • "My ruby trout on top of pureed peas with a few whole beans floating around in it (didn't hear that part or I wouldn't have ordered it) was flavorless and expensive. I had to ask for lemon to give the encrusted fish any taste at all. I avoided the unpalatable green slop that the fish rested on. The two men with me liked their entrees of fried chicken and shortribs. My favorite thing about the meal was the breads....and that's ridiculous. We were seated on the enclosed porch which has no ambiance and was hot. Will not go back."

  • "Went there for the first time - I heard about this place in D magazine and on TV. Great fried chicken! Not a lot of fancy in terms of presentation but its all about the food. Very good chocolate cake as well. A fairly quaint atmosphere as well. Well worth the trip"

  • "We took my parents here and all enjoyed it very much. My six year old son came with us-no problem. Loved the yellow doors and patio."

  • "Southern fried chicken and fried half okra was fabulous. Overall the food was wonderful with a few comments: The sautéed Brussels sprouts were strange and could not identify what they were sautéed with besides onions. The peach cobbler tasted more like baked apples."

  • "I have been here twice before and this third time will be my last. I keep giving it a try but it's just not that good. It's ok but with all the great places in Dallas there is no reason to go here. The atmosphere is cute. That's why I went back. I thought my daughter would like it. I ordered a 9.00 salad for dinner. It came on a plate just a little bigger than a saucer. It was a side salad size with a dinner salad price.."

  • "We were excited to try Sissy's based upon the menu. However, we were sadly disappointed with entire experience. To say the service was poor was an understatement. Other than to take our orders and deliver the check, the rest of the time we would have to find her and get her to come to our table. Our party of four had their food come out and different times and the last food to come out was cold. It took forever to get someone's attention to tell them of the problem. By the time we found someone and got the situation corrected, the rest of our food was cold. This was just a terrible experience from beginning to end."

  • "We lived everything we had! The chicken was absolutely wonderful!"

  • "We had heard all good things about Sissy's, and it was every bit as good as billed. The fried chicken was incredible, as were the sides. Great service, too. We'll be back! "

  • "Went to Sissy's last Saturday for the first time for a 60th birthday celebration. Our specialty drinks were great and we loved the Purple Hull Peacakes and the Squash Fritters we had for appetizers. Whole meal was excellent. Our server, Ben, was knowledgable and very personable! Would definitely go back!"

  • "It was an unfortunate meal. One of our appetizers was forgotten. They brought the wrong salad out. My guest's salad was awful. My chicken fried steak was burned! The meal took two hours and it was so loud we had to yell at each other. When we were leaving we took the management and they just apologized and said we should come back. The dinner was a $100 disaster for two, so I think next time we will go to Whiskey Cake."

  • "We ate at Sissy's to celebrate the 96th birthday of a Pearl Harbor Survivor. The food was terrific, especially that fried chicken, and the service was over the top great. The restaurant was very busy, and we were a large party. However, that didn't keep the staff from providing excellent service. In addition, many of the staff came to our table to thank this good man, a real hero, for his service to our country. I just I had more stars to give! "

  • "We had trouble hearing people sitting across from us at our own table. The food was very good. I would like to see more non-fried menu items."
    Dined on 5/15/2014
  • "Our table was ready early which is always nice. Decided to have a cocktail at the bar first though. I gotta give it to the bartender... He was slinging all kinds of handcrafted drinks and managed to make my Manhattan exactly as I requested. Good job! The fried chicken, fried okra spears and fried green tomatoes were excellent, but the macaroni, although tasty, was lukewarm at best. It would have been much more enjoyable hot. Can't wait to return!"

  • "Food was great, but the noise level was distracting and made for not so enjoyable evening. Service was good, but not great. Pricing on mains was okay, but starters and sides pricing was a bit high"
    Dined on 5/10/2014
  • "Loved everything we had. The fried chicken is delicious as are the Southern sides. The Strawberry/Rhubarb cobbler with Ice cream was wonderful. "

  • "This is awesome! We went with one of the most picky eaters in America, physically fit and buffed, and she LOVED it! Highly recommended!! Must go!!"

  • "I was there on Derby Day for lunch. It was fun, fantastic and everything I has expected. My friend who was in from out of town, LOVED it!"

  • "Enjoyed our first trip to Sissy's. Great southern food. Service was so-so....slow on drinks and way too fast getting the food out of the kitchen. Particularly enjoyed the fired green tomatoes and the fried chicken...both excellent. Very high noise level in the main dining room so appreciated being on the porch. Will go back"

  • "Best Southern style cooking I've had in some time; and my mother was from Savannah, so I mean that as high praise. The service is extraordinarily good too."
