A word from Siroc Restaurant
Chef Martin Lackovic, formerly of Galileo, I Matti and The Caucus Room, opens Siroc Restaurant on McPherson Square with brothers Keram and Mehdi Dris, who run the front of the house. Siroc's seasonal menu features cooking inspired by Italy and the Mediterranean with housemade pastas, charcuterie, salads and entrées. The new restaurant takes its name from a wind that blows from northern Africa to Italy and the Mediterranean.Continued

  • "Third time at the restaurant. Surprisingly the entree's were NOT good. The Snapper did not taste fresh. The pasta was salty. Wine was excellent, apps (smoked salmon; potato cake) were great, salad was fresh, two of the desserts were very good. The pear dessert that we took home was a bit more tart than expected. The chocolate torte came out earlier than expected. Took home three desserts. Coffee was fresh but weak. The last two times the food was excellent. Service was great. We were both just very surprised at the Entrée. Expected more for spending nearly $250.00. J. Varghese"

  • "My girlfriend and I had a very nice time at Siroc. The food was awesome, service great, and all around experience highly recommendable. Loved the "compliments of the chef" pre-appetizer, as well as the Limoncello shots at the end. Hidden gem!"

  • "A nice salad was followed by the heaviest over-sauced pasta I've had in a while. I expect more finesse from a restaurant charging these kind of prices."

  • "the service is spot on with staff being very attentive. food was fair, dessert was real disappointment. however restaurant should not be judged on its dessert."

  • "We visit DC 4-5X a year and always include Siroc. The chef and staff never fail to meet high expectations."

  • "Dinner was great. Lamb sausages were great for an appetizer and all three main dishes were excellent. Dessert was disapointing though. The mouse was just okay and the gelato trio was not so great and was all ice crystals. Other than dessert though, I would definitely return."

  • "We read Open Table reviews and were looking forward to our dinner at Siroc. We were promptly seated (on a Tues night) and very quickly greeted by our waitress. Service was very fine throughout the meal. We were served an "amuse bouche." It was a combination of a piece of potato, red pepper, and a ton of garlic. It was hideous tasting! Why anyone would serve this a mystery. Our large salads were fine - nothing special. For the main course I ordered the spinach Pappardelle with shrimp - since it got so many rave reviews. Perhaps it was a off night, but the pasta was over cooked, had a lot of oil, and the smallest shrimp I have ever seen. I think they were chopped. My date ordered the Bronzino and liked it. The restaurant was super noisy!"

  • "I think so! I have been going to Siroc for years now. It never ceases to amaze me how amazing their wait staff are. They are extremely attentive, know the menu inside and out, and are just plan amazing. I don't say this often, but Siroc has exceptional service. To further enhance the experience the food is top notch. Each item on the menu is exceptionally crafted and is clearly made fresh to order. I recommend Siroc to anyone who will listen to me. It is truly one of the gems of DC. I look forward to going back again soon."

  • "We had an early reservation, were seated in front of room, right next to check in desk and in the middle of the bustle, we asked for a table towards the back and were denied, all were "reserved" despite the fact that we had had a reservation also. Told them we planned on having a leisurely dinner, but were rushed through, 4 courses and we were out of there in under an hour. Food reasonable. Basic, but huge portions. An italian restaurant without a cesear salad. Good if you want to come and go in a hurry, bad for any special occasion meal. May work well for lunch."

  • "food very good; portions of salads a bit small; too noisy at lunch"

  • "Tasty Italian food. Hubby got the fettucine bolognese. The twist was that the meat was a good cut of steak mixed with pancetta--much better than the typical ground beef bolognese. I had spaghetti with chili--not as hot as I would have expected but still delicious. My son ordered steak and it was FABULOUS. The only place we've had better steak was at Ruth's Chris, and this was substantially less costly than that! Wines by the glass were a bit limited but good choices. Bread was excellent--we went through three baskets!! Server was a bit abrupt but it may have been a language difficulty (or our being dressed down--couldn't tell from the online presence how dressed up we should be.)"

  • "Our group of 8 sat at the one roundtable and it was great. We could all talk and all hear each other (we did have a 6 pm reservation). Everyone liked their dishes: branzino and two different pastas. The portions are ample, including the large and delicious salad appetizers. Great bread served with olive oil a big plus."

  • "On the evening we dined, neither the sound system nor the air conditioning seemed to be functioning, so the ambiance was a bit off. Food is outstanding the the service very good, so overall a very good dinner."

  • "Whether for a special night out or just a great dinner any night, you won't find much better than Siroc. Their food is fresh, creative, and visually appealing. The service is the correct amount of attentive and the setting is great for relaxing or impressing. Enjoy!"

  • "Siroc is modest, and balanced. It's not too big, too small, too pricey, or too sophisticated. The food and portion sizes were great for the price. I look forward to returning."

  • "This is on our list of our 10 all around favorite restaurants! Everything was perfect. The food was amazing. I had the fettuccine bolognese and my husband had the beef tenderloin. Both were the best we'd ever had. They were reasonably priced considering the exceptional quality! The servers were very attentive and knew the menu very well. We were thoroughly impressed in every way. We will definitely return next time we are in DC."

  • "Although quickly checked in and led to our table for an early pre-theatre dinner, the wait staff were otherwise occupied, and provided perfunctory service when available. We skipped starters, were warned we would have to wait 15 mins for the mains. Egg plant wrapped with lamb was OK but actually reheated, as was my wife's snapper filet; piping hot plates was the giveaway. Best thing about the meal was a wonderful glass of Umbrian 70% Sangiovese. At $106 for this little lot, the restaurant offers poor value. We visit Italy regularly. This restaurant would never survive in Italy."

  • "I had not been to Siroc in quite some time- I was pleased to see that they had put in a bar sometime in the past year. As usual the food was very good (fresh black bass special) although the sweetbreads prep was odd (they should have been trimmed better). I was pleased to see that the waitstaff was stable, service from hostess to waitress to buss(person) was great; the entire experience was excellent. we ate outside on the sidewalk on a beautiful night overlooking the Square and the server knew that we wanted a leisurely meal so she timed her visits well. Excellent value on food, drinks, wine by the glass. You can have Café Milano, I will take Siroc!"

  • "Had the lamb with eggplant, it was very good. My wife had the branzino and that was very good too. What made this place even more special was their level of accommodation, branzino comes as a whole fish but they removed the head, tail and skin for her. We ordered the chocolate tart which they bake in house when you order it, you have to get that because that's very good too."

  • "We were visiting DC for the weekend and I was craving Italian food. Searched Yelp and Google for recommendation. Their top recommendations were all closed on Sunday. Then I found Siroc. Lucky for us the others were closed. We had a terrific meal. The pasta was fresh and delicious. Cooked perfectly. Flavors vibrant and unique. Our server helped us pick a delicious bottle of Italian wine. Highly recommend!"

  • "We have walked or driven past Siroc dozens of times but didn't stop in for a meal until this past week. The food was very good and the service was very attentive. We chose to eat outdoors, in the sidewalk patio, and it was a little too noisy, a little too gritty - so, if we dine here again, we'll ask for a table indoors."

  • "Great crab cake special, but I wish the beet salad had more beets! I had to find them under the lettuce."

  • "Definitely get pasta. The carbona is amazing... sauce is so good.. you will be dreaming for it again. Portions are huge. Bread is yummy! Service is uptight and not very people oriented."

  • "Though I've worked only a couple blocks from Siroc, this was my first visit to this little gem adjoining McPherson Square. Service is warm and attentive, it's a pleasant and quiet room (great for conversation), and while lunch options are fewer than some downtown restaurants, they are nothing short of delicious. My lunch companion had the salmon, I had the shrimp with fettuccine, and we were both pleased. For many like me, this may be one of downtown D.C.'s hidden treasures."

  • "I lunched at Siroc but this was my first dinner experience there. Food was fantastic, service was very good and very friendly, and the atmosphere is comfortable and very pleasant. Also a very nice selection of wines by the glass."

  • "I had a craving for pasta for lunch and decided to look for Italian restaurants in walking distance of my office via Open Table. I found Siroc. The menu offered a selection that would meet my need, it was affordable, and it had great reviews. By this time it was about 11 AM, so I made a reservation for 12:30 PM. When I arrived the restaurant was small, quaint and I can definitely see it being a nice place for a romantic meal--however, I was there with a coworker--LOL! We both thoroughly enjoyed the meal. We had pasta--he had the special which was shrimp with Fettuccine and I had Fettuccine Bolognese. SIMPLY DELICIOUS AND FILLING! We also shared their popular dessert which was a warm cake with blueberries--light and tasty! Going back!"

  • "This restaurant was recommended to me by a friend. I had to cancel my reservations on two occasions before I was finally able to visit the restaurant. It was well worth the wait. The food was great - familiar dishes with tasty twists. The service and atmosphere were also excellent. Everyone in my party agreed that we would be returning."

  • " One of the better Italian restaurants. Enjoyed my dinner."

  • "Excellent restaurant -- seems understated but the menu is interesting, the food is delicious and consistently good, the service is very nice, and the restaurant is quite pleasant. There is a nice selection of wines and a new small bar. This is absolutely THE BEST Italian food, in my opinion, in the Washington, D.C., area. I am always surprised that Siroc does not seem to receive more attention from professional reviewers and discussion from foodies."

  • "We were looking for a nice neighborhood spot near our hotel and we weren't disappointed. The food was wonderful and the service was great without being smothering. The gnocchi and the ravioli were fresh and tasty. Try the mango ice cream, it was unbelievable. "

  • "Dined outside this week on a glorious DC evening. Food was magical, sauces truly old world Italian and lovely wine list. The scallop starter was delicious and cooked to perfection. The pasta and fish dishes were great. Only semi disappointment was blueberry cake dessert...tasted yummy but cake was dry and just not up to the same standard as the rest of the meal. Would definitely try again!"

  • "The food was fantastic, the wine was perfect, and the service was just right. What I enjoyed was the atmosphere. It is a smaller restaurant that was cozy and quiet - I am so tired of loud restaurants while I am trying to eat and have a conversation with my wife. "

  • "My wife and I celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary with a dinner at Siroc. It was an enjoyable, memorable experience. Our dinner and wine were terrific. My wife can't eat garlic or pepper, which isn't unusual to find in Italian food. Nonetheless, thanks to our waitress confirming it, she had a dish (raviolis) that was perfect for her. I wouldn't describe the restaurant as quiet, but it wasn't loud either. The ambience was romantic. Thanks Siroc staff for a wonderful dining experience! "

  • "The only problem we had was we were seated at the back near the kitchen and it created some noise. The food was very good. I had the grouper which was outstanding. The bread was very delicious. We had a party of 4 and everyone said Siroc was on our dinner list next time in DC"

  • "Outstanding food, efficient service and as a wine geek, I can say that the wine list's Italian selections have some wonderful indigenous varietals featured that pair well with the menu items. "

  • "For business lunches or for lunch with friends, I return here again and again. The menu selection is great -- salads, sandwiches, pasta or meat/fish entrees, and so is the food itself. Had a delicious special last week -- cod, spinach and mushrooms with a fennel cream sauce -- outstanding! Good service, nice ambiance, and moderate prices. Excellent value. I have never been disappointed."
