Our only suggestion is not to allow young babies. There were 2 crying babies that had to be taken in and out that took the edge of the ambience. First thing I really appreciated what then making the event special with the acknowledgement. Secondly, Joe, our waiter, was very good at helping with food and beverage selection. The flavor of the food was wonderful and they brought us a special desert and had written in chocolate on the edge of the plate a happy anniversary wish. The Beef Wellington is not a common dish around Southern California and the Wellington at Sir Winston's is exceptional. My wife and I have had different main courses during our visits and all of them have the taste and presentation you expect. The portion size is larger than other restaurants along the same lines.
The noise level is low even with a fairly open floor plan. The vegatables were crisp and delicious and the steak was prepared correctly as ordered! The champagne sorbet was an unexpected surprise, most restaurants do not do this anymore and it was great to have between salad and main course! The food was really good, but not excellent and probably not deserving of 5 stars. The ahi, however, was wonderful. Some of the menu seems to try too hard at being excellent to actually achieve it. My husband ordered the wellington rare and it arrived medium. Even the server knew it would be overcooked and warned him ahead of time. For the price, this is strange. He was unimpressed with the flavor also. My suggestion to the restaurant is to change to simpler dishes, like the ahi, that you can perfect and charge the high prices for. As you can see by our ratings it was a 5 star plus evening. It was the best meal we have ever had. The service was supreme. If you truly have a real special occasion to celebrate and you are the Los Angeles area (Long Beach) this is the place to celebrate it. Nothing beats the old world charm of "The Queen Mary." The ambiance is A+, with staff dressed in maritime uniforms. If you are impressed by the picture of the dining area, you'll be equally impressed experiencing it person.
Dinner is served with complimentary sourdough and raisin nut bread with butter and sea salt. I started with the bibb salad was one of the best salads I've had in a very long time. At mid-dinner, a small scoop of champagne sorbet is served to cleanse the palate. My wife had seared scallops (very large, tender and tasty) which were cooked perfectly. It is a "dining experience." However, one pays for the experience. The dinner itself was very expensive, and I felt that the wines were overpriced.
