Diner Reviews
  • "It was a pleasant experience. Wine list is great, the menu choices are great, the service is really nice and the outdoor tables are really a nice surprise! Loved it!"

  • "They just started offering lunch and it's wonderful. Plan a day in Phoenixville by starting out at SIPS. And they have parking right next door!"

  • "We went here for a birthday dinner, and sat outside as it was a beautiful evening. We ordered a cheese plate which was quite nice. It came with 3 types of cheeses, some grapes, toasted bread, cornichons, and fig jam. We were not given bread, and had to ask; maybe because the cheese plate came with toast? They did have French wine by the glass, so I took a chardonnay, which also delivered. I chose the bass with ratatouille and my spouse had the poulet which had an awful lot of rice. Something green would have complimented it well, adding some color. Salads and vegetables are additional. There is no prix fixe. Sips was ok, but not someplace I would go running back to again. The town is vibrant, loaded with restaurants."

  • "Another couple, my wife and I have eaten dinner at Sips twice before on Saturday evenings and had excellent experiences. Great food. Our third, more recent experience, was terrible. Three of us ordered their special hamburger. They only vaguely represented the way we ordered them cooked. Two of us ordered Brussels sprouts, which we done before and found excellent. This time both looked bad and tasted worse. My wife's mussels were dry and had no taste. We did complain about the sprouts and the waitress took them off the bill. Should have complained about the rest as well. The beer was excellent"

  • "Service was poor. Water glasses were not filled when empty, water was luck warm with no ice. waiter was not attentive, did not come by table often to check on us (we needed water often) and it took much, much too long for our dinner to be served. Last, when the food came, the portions were on the small side for the cost. Food was good but not noteworthy."

  • "First visit. A Friday evening. Ate outside. Attentive service. My wife had the onion soup to start off with and I had the fried oysters. Both very good. I then went for the classic "steak-frites" and she, the salad with crab-cake. Again, both very good. All accompanied by an excellent glass of Côte du Rhone. Topped off with a delicious Crème brûlée and espresso. We'll be back."

  • "I would have to rate this restaurant as average. The trout had to be sent back due to it giving off a foul smell and tasting unusual. The calimari was not acceptable. However, the staff were attentive and apologetic, providing desert on the house. But, the desert was just average. Overall, the experience was not great."

  • "This is the kind of place I seek out with fervor and latch onto for years. I've been lucky to find gems like this before but not so close and in my new neighborhood. I almost don't want to tell anyone how amazing it is. If you're looking for a fabulous time, amazing food, and great drinks, head over to Sips. This is the new French cuisine, subtle tradition wrapped in American tones. Great dining experience and the staff was down to earth and to the point. Absolutely great."

  • "Food was ok, kind of on the bland side. Service was great. The outdoor patio was nice too. Bathroom was disgusting."

  • "Another lovely evening at Sips. It was too hot to cook, so we let Sips make dinner, and our Main Line foodie guests were suitably impressed."

  • "My husband and I tried this restaurant because of Groupon I found, and it's will definitely be added to our list of favorites! The restaurant is nicely decorated - great ambiance. We ordered the cheese platter as an appetizer - delicious cheeses included a smooth cheddar, smoked gouda and bleu cheese, with toast points, gherkins, grapes and fig marmalade. My husband had the ribeye steak special and I had the soft shell crab special...both wonderful dishes. And we had a terrific waiter, Jeffrey, who made the meal that much more enjoyable. Highly recommend this restaurant - go out of your way, if you have to."

  • "It supposed to be a mid-to-high end French restaurant, however, it turned out to be like a "bar"."

  • "We often return to Sips for a pleasant, low-key dinner. The dining room is now air-conditioned, so dinner in 90F weather is comfortable inside or out. We definitely consider it a "neighborhood gem.""

  • "Have eaten dinner here many times and the food has always been top notch. Very disappointed in the brunch menu. I am used to getting multiple choices for brunch and this menu only allowed you to order 1 main course. Also the majority of the choices had an up charge. We ended up ordering omelets from the menu which were sooo small as well as the potatoes served were to raw to eat.. It also took about 5 minutes once we were seated for anyone to come over and take a drink order. Will not be having brunch here again!"

  • "I've had brunch and dinner at Sips and have been very happy each time. The ambiance is perfect--rustic and charming and the food is well-prepared, fresh, and delicious. Portion size is perfect."

  • "The four of us enjoyed our meals, especially the beef tournedos. They gave you a country club pour on the drinks. They did not have Bluecoat gin but have promised to have it the next time. We were planning to enjoy the outside dining but the weather was too windy and chilly so we sat in the bar. A bit noisy but after all, it is a bar. I would go back and hope to have good weather to enjoy the beautiful setting outside."

  • "An hour from Philadelphia and in a nice little coming-back to life town, the place was easy to find and easy to enjoy. The food was creative without needing a translation card to figure out. The portions could have been bigger, though some dishes were large portions; others small. Easy to rectify: put more potatoes/veggies on the smaller ones to make them more filling. Nice sauces; well executed dishes without being artwork. Fresh fish in the fish dishes. The desserts, particularly the profiteroles, were superb."

  • "We recently tried Sips Bistro and were not impressed on our initial visit. Our server was not familiar with the menu, but did check on questions and came back with answers. Our daughter is a vegetarian, and there were not a lot of choices. The server assisted her with fish choices, however other restaurants have been creative to offer some additional options. We sat outside which was nice, however there was music playing from a nearby apartment that was competing with the restaurant's background music. We ordered an appetizer version of mussels and an entree version with a side of fries (never saw this before) arrived. We asked the server...no apparent adjustment was made, and never received an itemized bill, just the slip with the total."

  • "This is a chic small restaurant with outdoor sitting. It has a bar. But on Sunday it is BYOB. We went there on aSunday evening . It was nice and quiet. I ordered the duck. It was crispy outside and flavorful inside. It would be perfect if it was a little bit more juicy. The serving is of good portion. We did not have dessert because there was no room. The server was very pleasant. We will certainly return in the near future. "

  • "Started off with the mussels and frites which were outstanding. Also asked for the vegetable crepe entree as an appetizer which was also great. We ordered the Sea Bass which was a nice sized fillet and wonderfully prepared and tasting. Also tried the sole which was on the small side with 3 small "swirls" of sole, but the taste was outstanding. Finished off with tartufo for dessert. Three perfectly crispy shells stuffed with vanilla ice cream and drizzled with chocolate. I have never had these prepared as well."

  • "I had eaten here one other time and had an excellent meal. On this occasion, the food was not up to the same standards. It was a day after a holiday weekend, perhaps a different chef was in the kitchen. The food lacked visual appeal. It did not appear to be as fresh as expected. The Eggplant Ratatouille was not bright in color and was very mushy. The service was very good. I am going to try another visit and am hopeful my experience will be better. "

  • "Outdoor dining on the patio is great. The service was quite slow (Memorial Day Sunday), but friendly and effective. 2 young children were able to roam a bit and that was a big plus. "

  • "Surprise reservation made by my husband from a Groupon offering for a 1st time visit. Everything was delightful -- food, ambiance, service. And, great jazz playing in the background. Shared the Thai-Curry Mussels, which were wonderful, as was the special lamb entree. We will definitely return & would like to try their jazz brunch on Sundays. "

  • "We had such a great Mother's Day dinner sitting in the beautiful courtyard at Sips. The food was great and we will absolutely be back for another visit soon!"

  • "We had brunch here on Mother's Day; what a treat! The food and drinks were great and the prices very reasonable. The best part was whiling away the afternoon sipping Bellinis and not feeling rushed. We will be back!"

  • "We have been to Sips a couple of times. The food was very food and there was a good variety. The ambiance is nice as well. Most of the tables for 2 are actually too small for our liking. The decor is very nice but watch out for bench seating. The bench is too high for the height of the table making it very uncomfortable. It would be fine for casual cocktails but for a full meal I would definitely ask for a different seat."

  • "Usually love everything about this place. This trip, we were not overly impressed wit the Sole we ordered. However, we will be back. We have has many past great dining expereiences here and everything else about this past trip was great. Service is always top notch."

  • "If you want a fine dinner experience, this is an excellent spot. On my last visit I had the duck, which was incredibly succulent, and before that, the filet mignon, which melts in the mouth. Stay for dessert, obviously -- my wife and I can wolf down creme brulee like it's nothing. Also recommended for cocktail enthusiasts -- the vesper martini, a 007 favorite. "

  • "We've dined at Sips 3 times now and each visit has been outstanding. The wait staff is friendly and attentive, the food is always perfect and the ambience is great for conversation and relaxation (we tend to dine early). "

  • "We wanted to try Sipps because we like to support Phoenixville business. We were seated promptly but at a table where one side was a chair and the other was a padded bench with no back support except for large pillows - not comfortable for dining. The cheese plate and escargot were uninspiring and expensive. We ordered duck and Branzino, both of which were acceptable but not great. Dessert was profiteroles. Too large and the chocolate sauce tasted like Hershey's. All in all it was just OK, although our server was terrific. We would probably return in the summer to sit outside."

  • "We were absolutely blown away! I must say how warm and charming our server Jeffrey was. Knowledgeable and complimentarty without being stuffy or overbearing, a perfect bistro server blended with fine dining service. We ate the calamari (a revelation!) and the country pate to start. If you even like pate a little, you must try it. The Lyonnaise salad was an unexpected explosion of bold flavors. I would come back just for that salad alone. Frisee with warm bacon, potatoes and green beans and topped with a poached egg! Our entrees were sublime. My husband had to have Sole Meuniere and it was terrific. My dinner was a chilean sea bass special, with sauteed ramps and delightful soy simmered mushrooms. Great job Chef Petrus! Love Love Love! "

  • "With Easter festivities coming, we just needed a nice, subdued meal and SIPS made that happen for us..Plus, the Sunday only, BYO made it very easy for us to enjoy..Her house salad and Filet Mignon were exceptional..My crab cake appetizer was not as much; surprised that there was no lump in the mix and a tad too much green pepper for me..also my Sea Bass, although it was quite fresh, it did not have as much flavor as I preferred and was a bit dry {I used her l/o Bearnaise Sauce to help it along}...But regardless, it was all-in-all a very nice meal and I'm sure we will return ~"
