Butterjoint is a comfy bar and restaurant located in North Oakland. Our welcoming and eclectic atmosphere is appropriate for almost any occasion - whether it be meeting a friend for a drink, celebrating an important event, or relaxing after work.

Our menu is a mixture of familiar Pittsburgh foods (think pierogies, hamburgers, French fries) and French bistro classics (beef tartare, raclette, mussels), and seasonal classics that come and go throughout the year. We put care into our vegetarian dishes too, including making our own tempeh, falafel, and veggie patties from scratch. Menu items change frequently--usually every day--and reflect many long-standing relationships we have with farms and breweries in our region.

In addition to reservations, we also have a thirty seat bar that is first come, first serve. We don’t know exactly how old the bar is, but it’s at least seventy years old (probably older) and very cozy. Our friendly bartenders are here to make something you like.

    Food was good overall though burgers were a bit overdone (had asked for medium) and not as good as I remember from the last time I ate here years ago. The other food we got and cocktails were excellent. Service was great and the bar area has a cool ambiance.

    Wonderful restaurant with everything from gourmet sandwiches to excellent entrees such as beef short ribs and crab cakes. Also has great vegetarian options. The waitstaff and manager were very accommodating and helpful. Very nice vibe to the whole place. Alfresco dining also available.

    The veggie burger was the best I’ve probably had in Pittsburgh and was super surprised by the vinegar pie!!

    First experience at this restaurant. Food was fabulous and everyone at the table enjoyed their meals. French Onion soup might be best I ever had. Will be back soon.

    The food was so delicious! We went for brunch. Had the pierogis with sausage, French toast, cucumber salad, and biscuits and gravy. Took two poptarts to go. Everything was SO good! We may come back to Pittsburgh just for the food!

    We started with their home Boston cream filled pop tart. It was light and flaky and full of flavor.  I had the pulled crumpet and my wife had the crabcake crumpet. They were both excellent loaded with flavor. I falafel was also very good. The weight staff, both the host and our waitress were phenomenal. My wife and I really enjoyed our experience at butterjoint and will definitely be back soon !
