About this restaurant

Meritage is modeled after traditional French Brasserie culture and is located in the historic Hamm Building in the heart of downtown St Paul. We are a couple of blocks from the Ordway, the Xcel Center, the Fitzgerald, and mere steps from the Artists' Quarter Jazz Club and Park Square Theatre. Our menu changes monthly to reflect the change of the seasons, and offers a mix of traditional French cuisine with Seasonal New American. Our beverage list includes a solid wine list of over 200 selections deep, numerous wines by the glass, as well as a crafted and seasonal cocktail program with an emphasis on sparkling cocktails in Meritage's new oyster bar - open December 2010 A creative list of non-alcoholic options rounds out the beverage program.

    We are closed on Mondays. The rest of our hours of operation are when we open for service. Our hours of closing are based upon business, though we are open every night Tues - Sun until at least 9:00pm. LUNCH (Tuesday - Friday) 11:00am DINNER (Tuesday - Friday) 5:00pm BRUNCH (Saturday & Sunday) 10:00am During Summer Season with our Terrace open we offer continuous service all-day, weather permitting, with a mid-day menu on the Terrace between services. ***Join us in our new BAR - specifically an Oyster Bar. Opening December 2010! Meritage will be closing to accommodate this expansion Sunday, November 21 - the first week of December. Please check back on OpenTable to inquire about availability - we are taking reservations for Tuesday, December 7 and on.

    Second time I've been to Meritage - this time was for brunch. We had terrible service - waiter practically threw things on the table and ran away. One person in our group finally said something to him and of course after that, the service improved. Ridiculous! Very mixed feelings about going back - the food was fine, not great.

    Our dinner was outstanding--food and service. We had made an early reservation and were seated in the the least noisy place in the restaurant which helped. Our server asked if we were attending a performance and made certain he accomodated that time frame. If there were a way to tone down the noise and still retain the ambience mit would be ideal. I had a fabulous duck entree and my companion had osso buco. We were very happy with the entrees and the accompaniments!

    No longer live in St. Paul, so was delighted to find that Meritage has expanded. Nice zinc bar and lovely outdoor. Nice additions to an already very good restaurant.

    Meritage was wonderful. It was within walking distance of our hotel and set in a lovely area opposite the old federal building. We liked it so much for dinner that we went back a second time for brunch. The atmosphere was inviting, service was excellent and our meals were delicious. I would definitely visit again.

    slow service, costly for what you get and VERY noisy. We could not hear each other. only 1 salad choice - surprising.

    This is our favorite Twin Cities restaurant. The food and service are consistently excellent. Their Friday night lobster special is the best lobster I have ever had - it melts in your mouth!

    Dining room was quiet, but it also was not full. Service was good but a bit aloof. Food was good, well plated, and timely. For some reason I can't quite put my finger on, I would not be quick to recommend this to others. Something about the whole experience seemed a bit forced, or cold.

    The food and wine list are excellent, with the oyster bar a real treat. Don't go unless you're planning on spending quite a bit. There service issues - a huffy waiter, hot glasses for cocktails, a couple of mistakes with the order. The food is interesting, innovative, the wine list awesome. However, with a cost of almost $300 for 2 people, you'd think they'd try harder to make it an EXPERIENCE.
