About this restaurant

  • Romantic
  • Neighborhood gem
  • Innovative
For ten years Indian Road Cafe has served the locals of the tight-knit Inwood neighborhood as both a "proudly unpretentious clubhouse" and a haven for creative cuisine. Opening serving locally sourced salads and sandwiches (a revolutionary idea for the neighborhood at the time), the restaurant has continuously evolved to be on the forefront of the uptown "foodie" scene.

In 2014 the restaurant welcomed NYC native Michelin trained Nicholas Wright to the helm. Using his training in New York's top Italian and nouveau French establishments, Chef Wright works to create a uniquely New York kitchen while staying true to IRC's philosophy of using only the best ingredients available.

Today the cafe's daytime offerings are simple, locally sourced American fare. The evenings showcase a more elegant menu highlighting Chef Wright's commitment to ingenuity and quality, featuring housemade pastas, charcuterie, breads and the only in-house dry aging program uptown.

It’s really a shame that the menu has gone to only a few pasta entrees. The options are scant and the wine list is just as dismal. IRC was the best restaurant in all of Inwood. Not sure what happened.

The service was super slow on a night that the cafe was maybe 30-40% full. This has happened now a few times in a row. We order a couple of salads and a couple of appetizers, which came out all together. The menu keeps getting shorter and more limited, now dominated by pasta dishes. The cafe has really declined in the two years I have lived in the neighborhood. Really a shame.

Was one if my favorites for years. Might be the last time we go. 1) probably waited 7/8 minutes for someone to acknowledge we were even standing there. 2) made reservations no table ready. They threw a table or two together we ended up putting place settings where they belong. 3) some of us got menus some did not. 4). Sat there for 10 minutes. No water. No waitress or waiter it was like we were not there. 5) menu is ugh at best. Not what they advertise online at all. 6). What happened to this place !!!! It is just awful now. 6). Place has gone down so bad. Not worth going back. we

Indian Road Cafe used to be something special, my last two visits were mediocre, at best. On one visit the chicken was overcooked to the point of being inedible, burger medium-well instead of medium-rare. On the second visit both the pasta and scallops were over-peppered so that the pepper masked the taste of everything else. The waitress was unclear as to which beers were available and it was difficult to get her attention for things like bread, refills on water, the check, even though the restaurant was more than half-empty. I won’t be going back.

The food was good. Turkey cooked to perfection. The stuffing was a bit too wet, but otherwise nice. The price (over $100 for 2) was far too large of a price point for a TG meal (all of which was prepared in large quantities in advance).

Everything about this restaurant keeps me coming back. The food, the service, the location. Just a wonderful place. The carmelized Brussels sprouts were delicious. And you must get the lobster mac & cheese. It's to die for.

We eat here a lot. It's great, great neighborhood place. And certainly the best in Inwood. The food and service are always awesome. As close to fine dining as you would get up here, but in a wonderfully casual atmosphere. It's solid, dependable, friendly, everything you want in a neighborhood place. Just had their Oktoberfest menu and it was amazing. Sure, it can be a little pricier than what you might consider "neighborhood fare," but it's worth it knowing that everything is locally sourced. Plus, in the fickle NYC restaurant world, we want them to keep their doors open, so we're ok with a few extra bucks here.
