Shockingly bad. Typical of Wall Street ownership. The chefs' conceptions were banal, particularly compared to when the two were at Neta. The produce was less than in peak condition. The pieces of sushi were too small to savor. Someone, Gottesman I guess, put the brakes on. We all felt violated. Our $1400. should be given UNICEF. Please make a donation in our behalf, Noam

A true sushi experience! Exceptional! You don't need chop sticks, just eat with your fingers and enjoy the flavors of fishes being prepared in front of you. Perfect service too!

Quite unassuming from the outside, but when as soon as you step in, you know you're in very good hands. Service was excellent, I've never seen such a small staff to guest ratio....they don't miss a beat when it comes to making sure you have everything you need during your meal. The ambience is certainly not a traditional Japanese setting, it's pretty upbeat and doesn't feel too serious or formal. The FOOD however, they take very seriously in all the right ways. The preparation, presentation, and explanation of each component of the omakase was spot on...plus the chef was quite friendly and happy to chat about his work. Half the fun was just learning all sorts of new ideas from him! All in all, a highly memorable dining experience in New York City. As a solo diner from out of town, this was a very worthwhile visit; but you definitely have to be ready to pay for it!

This was my second time at Shuko and the second time exceeded my already high expectations based on a memorable meal there last year. The restaurant is intimate -- all diners are seated at the bar - and you watch your sushi and other dishes prepared before you with the utmost of care and precision. The decor is beautiful - gorgeous wood bar and an environment that is designed to showcase the food. The service is attentive, unobtrusive, and everyone is there to make sure you are enjoying every moment and every morsel. The sushi and kaiseki (small dishes) are fabulous - delights of taste, texture and flavors. Terrific sake list as well. It is expensive but given the nearly three-hour typical dinner and the quality and care lavished on the meal and on the diners, it seems justified.

Overall good experience but definitely not worth the prices for the kaiseki menu. But if you are looking for sushi, go to Yasuda.
