About this restaurant

Almanac is a fine dining establishment in New York City specializing in unique American dishes. A common three-course menu will involve a sampling of such items as the pork loin, stuffed with savoy cabbage and apple. Also served would be monkfish and gnudi. The latter is an Almanac specialty, tossed with mushroom, Swiss chard and parmesan. For even bigger occasions, Almanac has a five and eight-course meal available. Each is served with a range of vegetable, meat and seafood options. This is also a great location to taste wine from around the world, enjoy a few cocktails or just order from the extensive collection of spirits on offer from the full bar.

Outstanding experience. Had the 5 course tasting and they easily accepted our vegetarian preferences. Will be back for sure.

We were looking for a nice place for a Friday night dinner and went basically by the ZAGAT recommendations. The food was really excellent and the service was so too. We had the five course menu and every course was to the point. We are definitely planning to come back to this wonderful place.

My husband and I recently found Almanac and it's one of the best restaurants I've been to in NYC - great atmosphere, not pretentious, delicious food and friendly waitstaff. You choose from three options of tasting menu's (3 course, 5 course or 8 course) so come hungry. I'd suggest a wine pairing as well to compliment the dishes. Really a great find.

The chef is preparing for a Michelin star. Unfortunately when you are trying to cook for that category the competition is very tough. Though the food was good it is certainly not worth the price. Dinner drinks and tip ran 150 dollars a person. You could go to Gabriel Kreuther for not much more. If I owned the restaurant I would reduce the price by thirty dollars a person. Otherwise I fear they will be out of business in a year

Girlfriend and I were visiting NYC from out of town and selected The Almanac for our valentines dinner. We both thought the overall experience was excellent. It was a 4 four course set menu. Our favorites were the octopus for the appetizer and the halibut for the main course. I also had the venison, which was very good. Staff was extremely friendly, very attentive, but not overbearing. The atmosphere was intimate. It was pricy, but that was to be expected due to holiday. When we come back to the city, it will be on our places to visit again.

Food was delicious, great balance of flavor and texture. I would say the tastings are interesting, not exactly that they build on each other but they fit together. Service was understated.
