Simon Pearce Restaurant, recently voted one of America’s Most Romantic Restaurants by Travel and Leisure and Best of New England, VT : Meal with a View, offers Creative American cuisine utilizing fresh local ingredients, thoughtfully prepared and attentively served in a classic restored Mill overlooking the Ottauquechee River. The staff motto is "quality without pretense." The dining room is casually elegant with views overlooking the waterfall and covered bridge. Recipient of Wine Spectator's "Best of Award of Excellence" since 1993, they offer a series of wine dinners monthly from November through May. They feature handmade glassware and pottery, which you can observe being made in their on-site glass and pottery workshop at The Mill. Enjoy their retail shop before or after you dine. Reservations are not accepted for lunch but are accepted for dinner. The restaurant will do their best to accommodate requests but does not guarantee any specific seating. Continued

The hostess and wait staff could not have been any nicer- just wonderful people! Our table by the window had a lovely view over the waterfall. The chef was flexible for our vegan food preferences, and the meals were delicious. It's a beautiful, romantic place with nice people & amazing food. Admiring before the meal, the glass-blowers at work, and then later in the restaurant above drinking from a wine glass that one of them made, is just cool. The shop on the main floor is like a beautiful museum. One feels, as you drive home across the quaint covered bridge, that you've just experienced a magical evening!"

  • "I've lived in the area for almost 15 years and been meaning to go for most of that time. Now I'm kicking myself that it took me this long, The food was very good. I have had better sirloin but not by much. The uniqueness of the sides, and appetizers was wonderful, an the deserts to die for. The presentation, atmosphere and service are what reality set the place apart. All in all, my wife and I could not be more pleased."

  • "I took my adult daughter to Simon Pearce for her birthday dinner on a quiet Monday night. Lovely ambience at dusk with a serene winter view. We aren't big eaters so a salad and entree with house wine was plenty. We each ordered the panko horseradish encrusted cod which was one of the very best fish dishes I've ever had. We both loved it. Our server, Beth, was the best too. Warm and attentive ---easy connection. So looking forward to going back, special occasion or not. Well done, Simon Pearce."

  • "Simon Pearce is our go to restaurants for all things celebratory. For the past couple of years we've attended the monthly wine dinners that generally run December through April. We have found them to be a great value, wonderful food and delicious wines. At the March dinner, however, they made substitutions to the fixed menu that had I known would happen, I would have cancelled my reservation. I checked the posted menu again right before leaving for the restaurant and it had not changed from the original. I was very disappointed. In the future, I will call before going to find out whether substitutions have been made."

They were able to accommodate our request for a window table, and because of the change to daylight saving time we were able to enjoy a wonderful view of the frozen falls, the covered bridge, and the river below throughout our meal. The wine list is extensive and offers a variety of great wines from around the world. We selected a California zinfandel which we really enjoyed. The lamb shank that I had was fabulous! We always give Simon Pearce our highest recommendation -- it's a must stop for us every time we visit the Woodstock area!"

  • "This is a fabulous restaurant. The location, ambience, and service were all outstanding. There's plenty of seating room, so you don't feel cramped. The food and wine were very good to excellent. The restaurant was featuring a "juvenile" Turley's Zinfandel and the wine was simply first rate. If I had two critiques; (1) the size of the portions relative to the cost ($28-$30) could have been a little bigger (especially the monkfish), and (2) I would avoid the flourless chocolate cake on the next visit. I thought the texture and taste in this instance were subpar. The other dessert we tried, the white chocolate mousse with a raspberry coulee, was phenomenal. Highly Recommended!"

  • "I love that the endeavor seems to be thriving, since we've been in the area since Simon moved to Vermont. Good things about our experience - that you're sourcing ingredients locally. The mill building is beautifully and tastefully restored. Noise is successfully controlled. Liked not having ambient music. All items beautifully presented. Things we didn't like: server was indifferent (but did not charge us for hot drinks she forgot to bring us with dessert), slow to notice us and process our meal, entree portions too large and expensive, not especially tasty. Not enough vegetarian options."

When we arrived we were shown a table in the middle of the floor, not anywhere near the windows. When I questioned why we did not have a window table, they seemed unaware of my reservation request. We were asked to wait if we wanted a window table and after 20 minutes were seated. I felt as if they did not really reserve a table as requested but seated people as they arrived anywhere."

The renowned setting exceeded expectation, as we were seated at The Table, directly over the falls, which were frozen into huge mounds with the roaring river flowing out below. Spectacular! The ambiance is perfect, lots of brick and beams and lovely wood floors, subtle lighting, giant windows...and the food! Each bite was a delight--crispy/tender duck, PERFECT beef, salad with a surprising blend of flavors and textures, melt-in-your mouth bread. But the staff...every person we encountered was smiling, helpful, genuinely eager for us to enjoy the Simon Pearce experience. We browsed in the store, which is really like a glass museum, and watched the glass blowers while we waited for our table. S.P.=A+++++"

  • "What more is there to say, other then its very very good. I will be back. The restaurant is tied into the Simon Pearce glass blowing experience. With beautiful views of Quechee VT, about 15 minutes past Woodstock VT. This is no tourist trap, the high quality ingredients and very fine culinary execution reflects the high quality glass blowing craftsmanship; an art. The vermont cheddar soup as others have said is a must try, the salad options were delicious and fresh. Now the main course was really good, but I suspect we'll be splitting one item next time due to taking home left overs was not an option. But leaving them to be tossed was not either! Needless to say we were full. Or skip the Apps and Salads. The Lamb with polenta was a win!"

They have a highly recommended wine cellar and great scenic views of the river flowing over the dam and rocks and under the covered bridge. It is quiet and romantic.
