  • "Plan your visit during show times. Can be very busy."

  • "Food was cold and lacking in flavor. Very disappointing."

  • "I had over 5 nats flying around my area through out my whole dinner. I kept waving my hand to get them off my food. Who knows if there were a bunch in the kitchen who already sat on my food before it came out. I was really disgusted."

  • "Come here if you would like some interesting food offerings. Always fresh and inviting, I really like the food. The service is soooo slow though. Be prepared for an hour and a half lunch even during the seemingly slow times. Not sure why but it's no place for a quick meal."

  • "Our server Grace was exceptional! The food was ok , not amazing just ok. Steak was over cooked and cold, potatoes seemed from a bag and reheated in microwave. I would go back for the bar scene lighting and drinks , but not for the food."

  • "Hi~ We visited Silver Trumpet, 4 ladies, prior to seeing Ghost at OCPAC. They were having a wedding or reception out on the patio, and it looked lovely. Everyone was having a great time. We ate dinner inside, and it was very nice. The decor was lovely. Our waiter was very perfunctory, not real friendly, but when I started calling him by his name, and being friendly to him, he remained the same but gave us good service. The wait staff was bus outside, and inside it was very slow. Perfect for us, as we wanted to eat, drink and get to theater. We are going again! Enjoyed it."

  • "Dined at the Silver Trumpet before going to the Performing Arts Center. Great location for pre-theater dining. Really beautiful restaurant with great service. The food was okay, but not great. Bar was packed. I want to go back for Happy Hour...that's the scene! I hope the food improves because it has everything else going for it."

  • "We had great service and great food! Our waiter was starting as a supervisor the following day (Sunday) - good choice as he seems to be a fine young man! Thank you - we will be back! Kirby & Jacqui Dean"

  • "I had heard this place was bad. I went myself and found it quite the opposite!!! The service was excellent. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was great etc. Would HIGHLY recommend it."

  • "Great happy hour find! Delicious appetizers, and creative cocktails. Very sleek bar, super close to Segerstrom Hall. Perfect pre-opera location for dinner and drinks!"

  • "We stop first at the bar and the drinks were great and the service amazing. An hour later we had a reservation for the dinning room. Place almost empty. Just one table besides us. Food was bad I ordered an Achiote Steak medium. Meat pretty much raw and completely soaked in vinegar. It was Impossible to eat it. My husband ordered a filete mignon supposedly was served with a demiglace sauce. They forgot. ANd on top of that when he asked the waiter to bring him some. It took more than 15 minutes and the chef sent aujuis (watery beef broth). "

  • "This was our second visit. The food was very good but we will not be back. The kitchen crashed on filling orders. We allowed 1.5 hours for dinner and barely made curtain. A woman who ordered the pre fixe walked out when she had nothing after 45 minutes. Our server said it has been worse. In his ten years of experience this is the most unorganized kitchen he has ever seen. The noise level was very high and we could barely here each other. They are close to the theater and parking is included but do not go here if you are concerned about time. "

  • "Nice restaurant, food is underwhelming. Patio looks great, sat inside."

  • "This place needs serious work. The decor is awful and causes terrible acoustics, and the staff needs some real training. I feel bad for some of them as it seems the restaurant is setting them up to fail by putting them on the floor unprepared. I'll never be going back and wish I had chosen a different place to eat for my fiance's birthday. This place sucks. Wasn't sure how to rate the noise level and annoyingly loud (despite having very few people in the place) was not an option."

  • "My husband and I have been going to the Silver Trumpet for pre-theater dinners for a while. There was always a problem with getting your food fast enough. When I booked this last time I let them know we couldn't be late. When we got there they were very conscientious and suggested the new prix fix menu. It comes out faster and is just as good as the regular menu. I had salmon rice and veggies and a green salad. The desert choices were flan and chocolate cake. My husband got the cake, pretty bad. He said it was like cafeteria cake. My flan was pretty good. My point is they are working to improve. I have always liked the food and ambiance. Plus you can walk to the theater and leave your car. They validate. Good staff and a good night. "

  • "I took my kids to see Book of Mormon on Sunday night. The play started at 6:30 and we had reservations for 5 pm. We were seated immediately (I didn't know the bar area opened at 4 or I would have been there at 4). We ordered dinner as soon as we sat down (no drinks and our waiter knew we were seeing the 6:30 play). Appetizers came right away. The bacon wrapped dates and my soup were delicious. Then the problem started. No dinner. Our waiter made excuses "we are only waiting on his burger", etc. Burger finally came and was well done, not medium rare. Wish I had more space for more information. Busboy Eddie amazing, along with Richard Ferber manager. 40 min to get dinner was not acceptable, knowing we were in a rush. "

  • "We went to the Silver Trumpet before seeing the Book for Morman. Our waiter, who was very helpful, advised us to get our order in fast because they can get backed up in the kitchen. Plus, they had a couple of events going on. The restaurant got busy and it took a little longer to get our order in than was probably safe. That meant an hour after we got there we were just getting our food and we needed to leave within 10 minutes to make sure we were not rushing to get across the street and to the show. The food itself was fairly good. The date appetizer (wrapped in bacon and stuffed with Chorizo) was very good. Unfortunately, all of our meals arrived cold. We talked to the manager and he did give us 25% off. We made the show, barely."

  • "I've dined at the Silver Trumpet several times. My last experience was great and the menu had improved significantly. This time on a Thursday night the service was terrible. They apparently had a large noisy group and provided service to them before serving our twosome, even though we arrived earlier. We waited almost a half hour after ordering for our entrees. My asparagus had a clear overdose of black pepper and was inedible. I later ordered tea and dessert. After waiting for the tea and then finishing it, my dessert still hadn't arrived after another 20 minutes. So exasperating. I can only say the service is highly irregular and we won't be going back to the Silver Trumpet for some time."

  • "The ambience was fantastic and so was the service. The food was tasty and plentiful for the Mother's Day Brunch, but definitely not worth $53.00 per person. Normally they serve smoked salmon for brunch, but removed it on Mother's Day and bumped the price way up. That was a big surprise and disappointment. We will go again, but not on a holiday. "

  • "The service was good, however I was disappointed with my meal. The steak was chewy, poor quality and extremely sour. The chimichurri sauce had too much vinegar. I would still recommend this restaurant because I have a feeling I was just unlucky with this particular meal."

  • "We sat outside for brunch and it was a lovely day. It was very relaxing and the service was excellent. Would definitely go back. We have been for Happy Hour as well and it was excellent."

  • "The food, service and ambience was perfect on a Sunday noon brunch. "

  • "I've stayed away from The Silver Trumpet as the ambience was half good and half garden furniture...a little cold. The food was not memorable. This has changed. The entire interior is soft and warm. The smoky mirrored back wall ensures that everyone has a good view. The food is much more interesting, better prepared, and the service outstanding. This restaurant will be part of my regular rotation when I'm at the Performing Arts Center which is often. I'm now recommending that you try this venue or if you've been there before, give it another chance. "

  • "Second time at this restaurant, only went back because of convenience for pre-show dining. Both times, the food came out promptly initially but somewhere along the line the service lost momentum and we barely made it to the show on time. Food is decent. The heirloom tomato and avocado salad is beautiful and refreshing and the locally harvested veggie chips disappeared within minutes. The short rib mac n cheese appealed to the kids and the kid in all of us."

  • "My husband and I tried this restaurant for the first time on 4/12/14. We were both very impressed with our dinner selections (he ordered the pesto shrimp pasta and I had the scallops), and the sliders appetizer were amazing! Our server, Alexander, was outstanding. We are happy to have found a new restaurant to add to the top of our list of favorites!"

  • "High priced; small portions; limited menu. The ambience was very pleasant."

  • "Great location for a Segerstrom event and the ambience was great! Service was good. Due to allergies, we asked about the bread, and we're told the chef makes it daily (good) from the cheapest ingredients he could find (bad.). Breadsticks were supposed to come to the table instead, but never arrived. Ordered bacon-wrapped dates (exceptional). Ordered the salmon salad, which was split at the waiter's recommendation. Way too much kale on the plate and very little dressing, making it very bitter. (More dressing was supposed to arrive, but never did.) Entrees were both very tasty and moderately portioned, but there was little difference in the salmon in the entree and the salad--disappointing.) Will have to try again before recommending."

  • "This is the dining room for the Wyndham Hotel in Costa Mesa, next to the Orange County Performing Arts Center. Location is great, but the menu is uninspired. Fairly typical for a hotel dining room. We had shrimp w/ pasta & grilled salmon on rice (+ 2 glasses of wine). The food was well done, but for a hundred dollar tab (for two) I'd expect a bit more imagination and/or flair. But it's not nearly as overpriced as the Cafe Rouge inside the concert hall across the street."

  • "The silver Trumpet is conveniently located across the street from the Segerstrom performing arts center and concert hall. The drinks are a little pricey but very good. App: The bacon wrapper dates were tasty but a bit charred. App: The filet bites were a little over-cooked Entree: The turkey burger was very good. They have a good selection of beer (bottle only)"

  • "The food is excellent, really geared to foodies with some unusual, but delicious combinations. And the décor is incredible. Very comfortable. The wait staff was attentive without fawning and pleasant. Highly recommend dinner and it's very convenient to the Performing Arts Center."

  • "I looked for a restaurant by the Segerstrom performing arts center and I found this one right across the street. When I checked out hte menu in comparison to a couple other restaurants in the area, it looked delicious. They have everything from small plates in the lounge, gourmet burgers, and full steak/fish dinners in the dining room at affordable prices. The service was excellent! I highly recommned the Beef and Black Bean Soup which was their soup special that evening."

  • "Went for brunch and will be back! Food portions were perfect and how can u complain about bottomless mimosas? Nice thing was they bring them out one at a time rather than refilling before you finish."

  • "While searching for "farm to table" restaurants in Orange County, we found this place. We were a little skeptical because this is a hotel restaurant, but we are glad we overcame that. We had a number of appetizers and a salad. The staff and kitchen were very accommodating to our dietary needs (celiac). Everything we ordered was very good. The service was outstanding. I recommend trying this place."

  • "I found this restaurant on Open Table to try out with my friends during our lunch hour. The hostess was very obliging, ambiance was gorgeous, the dining area was beautiful, we didn't get to sit outside but it had a pretty view, and the food was good. The only thing I would say about it is that we felt a bit rushed when they brought the check almost immediately after we had been served our food. We also wanted dessert so it made it a bit awkward but in hindsight they were accommodating when we ordered more."

  • "The restaurant is small, but light and well decorated with comfy chairs and booths. It is in the Wyndham Hotel and in a perfect location before going to the theater or concert. The parking is free with validation. The service was good and the food was good. It is mostly comfort and healthy food. They were not making the appetizer I wanted but that was no problem. I will return before a show."

  • "Reasonable first experience, the food was very good.. I had the crab cakes and they were great, I also had the mac and cheese with short rib.....if you are in the need for comfort food this will hit the spot!! My wife had the butternut squash ravioli and she enjoyed this too. When it came to desert they had a nice selection however one of the items we chose was the salted caramel pot o cream, this was not available, neither was the fruit tart, disappointing for 7 pm in the evening. Espresso was very good. I had to try to find a waiter to get another drink even although the restaurant was slow. I would definitely recommend you try this place as the food wins the day. I will give it another shot for sure."

  • "This was our first visit to the Silver Trumpet. Apparently it has been around for years, but we never came across it for our pre-theater dining. It is very convenient to the Seagerstrom Center, and offers complementary parking to boot. The food was quite nice, well prepared and not too large servings. the meals were not overly priced, as is often the case in this area. We will return."
