Diner Reviews
  • "My husband and I tried this restaurant for the first time on 4/12/14. We were both very impressed with our dinner selections (he ordered the pesto shrimp pasta and I had the scallops), and the sliders appetizer were amazing! Our server, Alexander, was outstanding. We are happy to have found a new restaurant to add to the top of our list of favorites!"

  • "High priced; small portions; limited menu. The ambience was very pleasant."

  • "Great location for a Segerstrom event and the ambience was great! Service was good. Due to allergies, we asked about the bread, and we're told the chef makes it daily (good) from the cheapest ingredients he could find (bad.). Breadsticks were supposed to come to the table instead, but never arrived. Ordered bacon-wrapped dates (exceptional). Ordered the salmon salad, which was split at the waiter's recommendation. Way too much kale on the plate and very little dressing, making it very bitter. (More dressing was supposed to arrive, but never did.) Entrees were both very tasty and moderately portioned, but there was little difference in the salmon in the entree and the salad--disappointing.) Will have to try again before recommending."

  • "The silver Trumpet is conveniently located across the street from the Segerstrom performing arts center and concert hall. The drinks are a little pricey but very good. App: The bacon wrapper dates were tasty but a bit charred. App: The filet bites were a little over-cooked Entree: The turkey burger was very good. They have a good selection of beer (bottle only)"

  • "This is the dining room for the Wyndham Hotel in Costa Mesa, next to the Orange County Performing Arts Center. Location is great, but the menu is uninspired. Fairly typical for a hotel dining room. We had shrimp w/ pasta & grilled salmon on rice (+ 2 glasses of wine). The food was well done, but for a hundred dollar tab (for two) I'd expect a bit more imagination and/or flair. But it's not nearly as overpriced as the Cafe Rouge inside the concert hall across the street."

  • "The food is excellent, really geared to foodies with some unusual, but delicious combinations. And the décor is incredible. Very comfortable. The wait staff was attentive without fawning and pleasant. Highly recommend dinner and it's very convenient to the Performing Arts Center."

  • "Went for brunch and will be back! Food portions were perfect and how can u complain about bottomless mimosas? Nice thing was they bring them out one at a time rather than refilling before you finish."

  • "I looked for a restaurant by the Segerstrom performing arts center and I found this one right across the street. When I checked out hte menu in comparison to a couple other restaurants in the area, it looked delicious. They have everything from small plates in the lounge, gourmet burgers, and full steak/fish dinners in the dining room at affordable prices. The service was excellent! I highly recommned the Beef and Black Bean Soup which was their soup special that evening."

  • "While searching for "farm to table" restaurants in Orange County, we found this place. We were a little skeptical because this is a hotel restaurant, but we are glad we overcame that. We had a number of appetizers and a salad. The staff and kitchen were very accommodating to our dietary needs (celiac). Everything we ordered was very good. The service was outstanding. I recommend trying this place."

  • "I found this restaurant on Open Table to try out with my friends during our lunch hour. The hostess was very obliging, ambiance was gorgeous, the dining area was beautiful, we didn't get to sit outside but it had a pretty view, and the food was good. The only thing I would say about it is that we felt a bit rushed when they brought the check almost immediately after we had been served our food. We also wanted dessert so it made it a bit awkward but in hindsight they were accommodating when we ordered more."

  • "The restaurant is small, but light and well decorated with comfy chairs and booths. It is in the Wyndham Hotel and in a perfect location before going to the theater or concert. The parking is free with validation. The service was good and the food was good. It is mostly comfort and healthy food. They were not making the appetizer I wanted but that was no problem. I will return before a show."

  • "This was our first visit to the Silver Trumpet. Apparently it has been around for years, but we never came across it for our pre-theater dining. It is very convenient to the Seagerstrom Center, and offers complementary parking to boot. The food was quite nice, well prepared and not too large servings. the meals were not overly priced, as is often the case in this area. We will return."

  • "Reasonable first experience, the food was very good.. I had the crab cakes and they were great, I also had the mac and cheese with short rib.....if you are in the need for comfort food this will hit the spot!! My wife had the butternut squash ravioli and she enjoyed this too. When it came to desert they had a nice selection however one of the items we chose was the salted caramel pot o cream, this was not available, neither was the fruit tart, disappointing for 7 pm in the evening. Espresso was very good. I had to try to find a waiter to get another drink even although the restaurant was slow. I would definitely recommend you try this place as the food wins the day. I will give it another shot for sure."

  • "All I can really say is that it was OK. We were just after the rush of folks who dine early before heading to the neighboring theatres. The food was OK, our waiter put us off several dishes that he found to be lacking. The menu was not what was on their website, or what is here on Opentable. So what we were excited to try wasn't even on offer for the evening. The place was completely empty the entire time we were there, and there was minimal to no background music. So it made for a very quiet, very museum-like experience."

  • "I made a reservation for party of 6 for lunch after our training meeting at Segerstrom Center. Service was great (a little slow), food was fantastic (as usual) and we all enjoyed the quiet ambience of Silver Trumpet. Love trying some of the new items on the menu, but Cobb Salad is always a favorite."

  • "My wife and I were going to the Segerstrom Theater and chose this as it was claimed to be walking distance. It certainly is and they validate your parking ticket. The menu seemed a little light on choices but my wife ordered the fish special and I had shrimp. Both were excellent and in the end we felt that it was great for both a quick bite before the theater or for a more leisurely meal. We will be back."

  • "My birthday celebration at the Silver Trumpet unfortunately was marred when the waiter spilled a glass of wine on one of our party. The meal was great and the private alcoved room that we had was wonderful for a group. However, our image of the restaurant sank when my friend who sat through the entire meal with wet clothes was charged full price with no "apology comp" of even the glass of wine. When we told the manager that we were disappointed in the customer care, his response was that next time we come they would take that into consideration. (However, that was only a verbal promise, so good luck on that.)"

  • "I actually used Yelp reviews to determine where we would dine before our event. Silver Trumpet exceeded my expectations! First, the restaurant is truly steps away from the theater. Parking was so easy at the Wyndham, unlike trying to park near the Pantages or Dorothy Chandler. The service was Outstanding-Thank You Alex. He provided attentive, personal attention while understanding our timeline for the theater. He was honest and direct about our menu inquiries. Our food was delicious, visually appealing and in very decent portions. We will return to try the other menu items and Brunch!"

  • "Had a quick dinner with a friend before a concert at Segerstrom Center for the Arts. Great place for pre-show dinner and your parking will be validated so you can leave your car and walk across the street to the Segerstrom Center. Food is consistently good, service is great and the noise level in the restaurant is very quiet. I suggest making a reservation since they do get busy for pre-show dinners."

  • "Once again, we had a fantastic dining experience at Silver Trumpet after the Saturday matinee at Segerstrom Center for the Arts. Brandon, our waiter, was friendly, attentive and was well versed with the menu. We had a party of seven and some were first-timers at the Silver Trumpet and Brandon gave them the full explanation of some of the unique items on the menu. By far, the Mac & Cheese with Short Ribs was an unbelievable favorite at our table. Wine list of wines-by-the-glass is great and pleased our group that had various wine tastes. We savored every morsel of our food including the great desserts and we enjoyed the quiet ambiance of the restaurant. We will be back and look forward to more exciting dining adventures."

  • "The last time I was at this hotel/restaurant it was boring and unattractive. Now, not so. It's a great place to eat and then a very short walk to the OC Performing Arts. Also they validate parking with dinner and you can leave your car for the evening. Service was very attentive. Decor is current, sorta hip. I'll be back. Nice variety on menu for pre theater, light or full dinner."

  • "It was a very pleasant dining experience and very conveniently located near the concert hall at which we were attending a concert. We were able leave our car there, free of charge. The waiter, Alex, was very attentive. The room was nice and well-presented. The dessert was a bit disappointing -- apparently their desserts are usually prepared at the restaurant, but the cake I had was bought."

  • "Very disappointed in the service and slightly disappointed with the food. I suggested your restaurant for dinner prior to a show at the Pacific Symphony last Friday night. The two salads took about thirty minutes to come out and the four entrees took about an hour. our waiter was very apologetic and you could tell he was extremely embarrassed and noted other diners were upset as well. We asked to speak to a manager and the man we spoke to was so unhelpful it was sad. He just a quick sorry and left. Seriously?"

  • "We had visited many restaurants around the Segerstrom Center, but after visiting Silver Trumpet last weekend, we will probably always go there before our shows. It's extremely convenient and we were really impressed with our server, the quality of the food for the very reasonable price and the ambiance."

  • "Tucked away inside the Wyndham Hotel on Avenue of the Arts, is this fabulous place to eat and drink! Have eaten in the front bar area before, outside by the street, energetic and fun. This time we sat on the other patio overlooking the big lake. Quiet, peaceful, heaters aplenty. Incredible filet mignon bites. Butternut squash ravioli to go across the county for. Simple but unique burger with an aoli sauce that just MADE the meat sing! Prices so so reasonable…..and a terrific server as well."

  • "We had a great time at the restaurant. All of the staff was accommodating, friendly, and attentive. We enjoyed our meal and especially the service, I can't remember our waiter's name but he remembered us from the previous year. It was a very nice experience and we would recommend The Silver Palate restaurant to anyone looking for great food and service!"

  • "I am generous to give two stars and do so only because the food was actually quite good. The service was often no service at all. We were seated promptly, but waited 10 - 15 minutes before someone came close enough to our table to hail them and ask for service. This pattern lasted all evening. Other than the bus-staff clearing plates which they did, we had to seek out service for each part of the dining experience to include ordering drinks, dinner, getting and paying for our check. We either waved at wait-staff from a distance or went to the bar to request service. I must say that the bar manager listened to our concerns and agreed that we should expect a different level of service. At no time were we offered after-dinner coffee or tea."

  • "The menu was not the same as the online menu. We were looking forward to the Cornish hens and a fish other than salmon. The selections were somewhat limited, and it was pretty ordinary. Shrimp pomodoro seemed like it had grocery store pesto."

  • "I was disappointed upon arriving at the restaurant to find that we had been seated outside! I had made a reservation online and evidently if you do that you get seated on the patio. Since it was December and chilly outside (even with heaters) I did not want that for me and my friends. This was NOT made clear when I made the reservation. I expect to be seated indoors if I make a reservation. We ended up sitting at a small table in the bar, under colored lights that continually changed colors. NOT very appetizing, to say the least! The food was ok, but the fact that the night started out poorly made it hard for me to get past that."

The wraps are fantastic, fresh and healthy and leave you feeling like you really did something good for yourself."
