  • "This was the third visit for my husband and I at the restaurant. We went because we had a Groupon; however, our waiter, Shawn, treated as if we were there paying full price, not a discounted one. We were greeted promptly and seated immediately. The menu offers a wide variety of entrees and fantastic sides. I had the lamb shank with rosotto. The meat practically melted off the bone. It was a good size portion and I was able to take home to enjoy for lunch the next day. My husband chose the five-spice duck with the haricot verts and ate every bit of it. I highly recommend Silo at Alamo Heights for anyone wanting to enjoy a good meal with great ambience and service."

We both had the surf and turf with the scallops. The steak and scallops were both perfectly cooked and well flavored. The service was excellent. I liked that the waiter gave us the option of wine without "pushing it" on us as so many restaurants do."

  • "My wife and two sons had a very nice, pleasant dinner. Everyone enjoyed their food. My seventeen year old son loved the lamb. He said it was the best meat dish he had ever tasted. My twenty year old and I had the pork shank that was very tender and tasty. My wife enjoyed the shrimp and grits and she and I shared a toasted coconut pie that was scrumptious."

  • "This was our second time here and we were not disappointed. The bummer of the night was a chicken fried oyster that had large grit that i thought i had broken a tooth on a BB sized piece of sand or stone. The others on the plate were grit free and tender. The pork shank was decadent. The entire plate was way over my caloric budget but oh so mouth watering tender and succulent. My partner had the tuna which i tried and was very good and done perfectly rare. The server suggested a nice white to pair with both entrees and she was right; it went very well and was able to cut through the fattiness of the pork without overpowering the tuna. Downside - some appetizers come from Nosh so if nosh is close the appetizers are limited."

  • "My friend who was leaving town and I came to Silo to have a wonderful dinner and drinks, and we absolutely did. We are both in the food industry and look for quality everything for a special dinner. Silo did an exceptional job in most all aspects of our experience. Just a couple of things were less than perfect. The Oysters on the app were nickel size and I felt when they were so small maybe a few others could have been added. The waiter was great and so were the table and atmosphere. One more thing, I found a bottle of the Caymus Cabernet Silo has on the wine list to be incredibly over priced leading me not to purchase one of the better wines realizing all were probably priced on the same scale."

  • "We are frequent Silo customers, and this time we brought our three kids to celebrate our oldest's graduation from high school. The youngest, notoriously picky about food, said the roasted chicken was "delicious," which is very high praise from our 12 year old. Everyone enjoyed their appetizers and entrees (chicken fried oysters and foie gras, and the fish special, lamb, veggie risotto, and chicken), and the kids tore through the creme brulle and chocolate mousse for dessert. The wine list included one of my favorites, Klinker Brick's Syrah, which went very nicely with my lamb. An excellent meal overall!"

  • "Had a date night here with my spouse. We told our server we wanted to do a 3-course with a wine for each. His recommendations were spot on. Oysters on half shell and seared Tuna to start both melted in your mouth pairing with Pinot Gris. The duck was a half duck with couscous and was savory and seasoned right with a Pinot. The sea bass was perfect with a buttery softness paired with a Blanc. The Chocolate soufflé was a short wait but that was was perfect inside and served with cream. The dark chocolate mouse was smooth and silky with the subtle bitterness of the dark cocoa. Both were paired with a 20yo port. The only downside was that the oysters and tuna were $15 upstairs but only $5 in the bar; maybe do apps first in bar."

  • "It seems standard in San Antonio so far, for finer dining, that the Valet parking is silly. Meaning that you can possibly have to walk farther to watch them get into your car right in front of you to then back it up so that you can get in. Of course you silk tip the Valet. At the Alamo Heights Silo, the Valet has to turn left into the street with traffic, to then make another left turn again across traffic to finally Park your vehicle directly next to where you're standing watching the entire funny yet scary spectacle!"

  • "We've been to Silo for dinner probably close to a dozen times, and we're never disappointed. We've even brought our very picky kids with us on two occasions, and the chef made "the best chicken fingers ever" (off menu) for our 11 year old, who doesn't eat much else. My personal favorite dishes are the chicken-fried oysters (to DIE for) and the tenderloin filet with blue cheese gnocchi and spinach. This meal goes perfectly with one of the many great red wines on the wine list (my favorite is Klinker Brick's Syrah). It's tough to stray from my favorite, but I have tried the salmon and other fish specials, which have always been top notch. The service is always pleasant and attentive, and the overall experience is always wonderful. "

  • "We we were seating by the soon absent hostess, we noted the air was blowing directly on this table and was very uncomfortable...I immediately re-contacted the hostess and asked to be re-seated...she replied that she would "fix" the air conditioning. When our server showed up we asked to be reseated two separate times, only to rebuffed by him, as he stated the entire restaurant was cold...we had our salad, and after a bit or two of our entree we asked to have the food boxed to go. We simply could not stand the blowing, cold air. The hostess needs to be replaced, we left a small tip ($100 food bill) with a note about our unhappiness....I will NEVER eat there again. We were put in the "monkey house" and told to stay...this is NOT service"

  • "From the get go Debbie made my cousin and I feel right at home. She was personable and gave great suggestions on drinks/ food. We started our meal with a raspberry mojito and texas ruby red. Both were very good. For appetizer we ordered the foie gras, which was the special app for the night. My cousin had the lamb chops (special entree for the night as well) and I had the sea bass. The lamb chops were cooked perfectly as well as my sea bass. I did feel that the soba noodles were a tad overcooked. The side of blue cheese ricotta gnocchi was the only disappointing part of the night. It did not melt in the mouth like it should . The chocolate souffle was the perfect ending. So yummy! Definitely earned a return visit next time I'm in SA!"

  • "Wonderful list of wines by the glass and by the bottle. The service was attentive and appropriate but it was a little noisy in there and we had to sit very close to the table next to us. The food was cooked well but nothing extraordinary or super interesting. The special oysters were good but I am glad I didn't get an entire entree of them. Overall, I would dine again but I think I would try the one on 1604 to see if the ambience is a little better."
