Had the duck. It was excellent!
I've had duck before, but never done so well. I plan on coming back."

Food was excellent and the wine
parings were really fun."

Signatures new owners have not
only continued the excellent service and food of Signature's founders. The Valentines Day four course menu offered choices that allowed varied tastes to find excellent combinations. The execution was exceptional. The only weakness was the shrimp cocktail which used very small shrimp. The warm olives with feta cheese and caramelized onions with goat cheese starters were amazing. The beet and carrot salad and seafood bisque were excellent. The cornish game was extremely well prepared and presented. The deserts were at the same high standard. The wine flights from starter to desert were well chosen and a uniform high quality. Signature has added an espresso machine which made a perfect conclusion."

This place was booked for
Valentine's Day (hint) so we went the night before. With only a handful of people there our dining was private and quiet. Otherwise with spacing very tight it might have not been quite so romantic. It is located in a quiet, charming neighborhood. The gluten-free food was exquisite! We had roasted duck leg comfit that melted in your mouth with sides of a risotto that had butternut squash, dried tomatoes and kale along with roasted root veggies for me and sauteed greens for my hubby. We did not order wine on this occasion so I can not comment on them but do know they have a wide selection. The server was very congenial and knowledgeable. It is above our normal price range but we will return for special occasions."

The food was lick-your-plate good.
The server was knowledgeable, friendly, easy to engage, and accessible. Our group of old friends chose this restaurant because we wanted to enjoy an evening where we could talk over great food and wine and easily hear each other. It wasn't a busy night, but when it is, the ambience is still very good. Their "I Fed" social justice commitment is an added plus."

Short ribs were dried out / over
cooked. Chicken scallopini was so-so. Mash potatoes were served when rissotto was ordered."

Signature is one of our favorite
restaurants, and dinner on New Year's Eve was excellent. It was a four-course tasting menu (three choices for each course) with wine parings. So, between the two of us we were able to sample eight dishes and eight wines. All were excellent! We especially appreciate their attention to dietary restrictions -- in my case, gluten. In fact, Tuesday evenings typically are totally gluten-free."
Dined on 12/31/2013
The food is wonderful, great menu
options and wine selection. Cozy, neighborhood place."
Dined on 12/19/2013
I love the neighborhood feel of
this restaurant, since indeed it is in the middle of a residential neighborhood. It reminds me of the town and neighborhood I grew up in. I was disappointed in the service. We were the last group to come in for lunch and it took a long time to get our food. We were not offered bread or anything else during our wait and because we came in at 1:00 p.m. we were quite hungry. We got our meals nearly 40 minutes after our arrival. On a positive note, the food was good. The duck bacon BLT was very tasty and something I've not had before. Two of my companions had the hummus which was passable, abeit more garlicky than they were used to. Another companion had the crab cake sandwich which garnered no comment."
Dined on 12/18/2013
We had a group during a special
Holiday food/wine tasting menu. It was chef designed and wonderful!!! Very personable staff and small restaurant gave a cozy warm feel."
Dined on 12/15/2013
We've been there before and the
food/service were both excellent. This time neither was true. One couple waited an hour for food. Orders were jumbled up, for food that was just ok. It will be a long time before we try again I'm afraid"
Dined on 12/14/2013
Unfortunately, we have been big
fans of Signature...but it is not the same. The cooking is very basic & uninspired--neither very good nor very bad. Simple, without great flavor and served in a perfunctory manner. I hope Derik, the new owner can find a way to improve upon, or at minimum, keep the "old " Signature spirit alive."
Dined on 11/30/2013
Casual, friendly restaurant.
Caters to small discerning patrons of fine dining in a generally moderately quiet setting. Server was excellent, well acquainted with the menu. Offered excellent information about dishes available. Very helpful. Chef was creative and provided a dish that was modified from the menu offering, that we thought was better than what was listed. The owner/manager Derek ( I think that was his name) was very helpful in helping me correct an error with the billing. He was genuinely concerned and immediately responded to help it get corrected. We have eaten at this restaurant about 4 times now and have been very pleased each time."
Dined on 11/22/2013
The tasting menu began with
"Crostini with Red Onion Jam and Gruyere Cheese". We received two slices of toasted sandwich bread topped with red onions and just a few flecks of cheese. The "Green Tomato Soup with Chorizo Sausage" is best described as a green tomato being squashed into lumpy sauce and placed in a ramekin, one tsp of sausage put on top and then everything microwaved until boiling. "Chicken a la King over Rice". The rice was still hard and covered in a creamy alfredo-esque sauce that had 4 oz of reheated chicken cubes, 1/2 mushroom & a speckling of pepper and onion. There was no real food content. What I can best compare it to is a Michelina's Lean Gourmet entree - you know those frozen meals that are always 5/$5?"

This small restaurant on a
residential block is such a hidden treasure! The food is beautifully prepared and care is taken with presentation. The chef will usually make a personal visit to the dining room to be sure that all is well. The house-made breads are wonderful! Save room for dessert!"
Dined on 10/23/2013
The atmosphere and menu were
great. I was expecting a lot more out of the food. I had the salmon. It wasn't prepared how I requested and it was very fishy tasting. The roasted red potatoes were crunchy due to undercooking. I had really high hopes but was disappointed!"
Dined on 10/26/2013
Paella was out of this world! So
hard to choose with such yummy things on the menu. This is now one of my go to places. On a side note, I have Celiac and need gluten free food. This place is a find. After I was diagnosed, I had to always find the one GF thing on the menu and not worry so much about what sounded yummy. Here? Everything can be made GF. An incredible delight."
Dined on 10/17/2013
Had an opportunity to go to
Signature cafe for a 5 course meal featuring the foods and wines of Portugal and Spain. The wines were all very good, and matched the food well. Paella was the best course. Pork was over done."

Such a nice find, right in my
neighborhood. The ambience is charming, the food is good, the service is excellent."

Brunch VERY Tasty Sloooow
Service We liked the delicious food but the waitress was VERY slow, even when we asked for a quick meal, even though there were literally almost no one else there. I like the place and look forward to returning (when we don't have any plans thereafter...)"
Dined on 9/29/2013
The food was very good. Great
service. (Food was taking a little too long so the man offered a complimentary glass of wine). The price was....ahhhhh bit on the higher side... For some pasta, little bit of vegetables and a small chicken breast it was 25$. But the flavor was excellent and the chicken was juicy. So, it was very good. but....i think if prices were a little bit lower I would frequent more often."
Dined on 9/28/2013
I read a lot of rave reviews prior
to going here & was excited about their GF items. We were sadly disappointed and out over $100. The food was mediocre, waitress was friendly but not knowledgeable about the food at all. My husband ordered "smoked ribs" and they were braised, not smoked, and off the bone with some Asian-type sauce that was sorely lacking in flavor. The greens side dish didn't have stems removed, so was pretty chewy, and cauliflower not roasted long enough. The house-made sodas were pretty flavorless and dessert not good at all. We won't be going back."
Dined on 9/13/2013
The food was fine. The service was
abysmal. Our server poured wine on the table, forgot our order and had to be asked multiple times for dessert and the check."
Dined on 8/25/2013
Signature Cafe is excellent for
those interested in locally sourced food (a huge garden in the back) and with gluten intolerance. Chef Derek is very knowledgable and the food was great. The GF beer selection (4 in all) was a surprise too. We look forard to going back soon."
Dined on 8/3/2013
We enjoyed Signature Café for it's
food, the service was terrific, it was all wonderful. We split a salad for two (is that 'splitting'?) and we split an entrée--the risotto du jour with salmon. The salmon was perfect in every way, and the risotto with mushroom and sundried tomato a taste treat. If you're on a budget, I recommend splitting an entrée in this way--just the right amount!"

Friends and I chose this
restaurant on a whim and discovered the brunch was excellent. Food was tasty, temperature was right. It just so happened that we liked everything being offered that day; depending on the day, a person might not like the choices. There are four courses and you do not get a choice from a menu. The food is family style so you can have as much as you want."
Dined on 7/28/2013
Overall we had a pleasant
experience when dining with friends on a Saturday night. The restaurant was very quiet on our visit, which made it easy to converse. Menu choices are limited as you might expect at a small restaurant, but prepared well. Several gluten-free options (including beer) for those who are looking for more dining options. Service would have been rated Very Good except a cappuccino ordered with dessert wasn't delivered for several minutes (we heard it being prepared) and arrived lukewarm."

We were surprised to find this
little restaurant in Prospect Park. The food was excellent, wonderful pairings of tastes and textures. It was very nice to be able to choose 2 sides to go with the entrees, and not have them chosen for us. The only stumbles were the roasted carrots (they were not roasted, perhaps just lightly steamed) and the portion size of the duck confit. My duck was a nice size portion, but my husband got a piece that was significantly smaller. (And of course instead of just trading, he ate his and whined about it, while I still had half left.) Dessert was great - a flourless chocolate torte, bread pudding, and salted caramel gelato. We ate on the patio - quiet and no bugs."

If you're looking for charm and
good food, this is a great spot!"

The service (thank you Jessica),
food, location, and ambience are all reasons for tourists and localvores alike to visit, and revisit Signature Café!"

Signature Cafe was excellent and
we will definitely be going back sometime."
Dined on 6/24/2013
This is a wonderful, quaint
restaurant. The food is fresh, from sustainable meat and produce, with amazing preparation. The staff is super, and the wine pairing/tasting menu was well worth the money. Five stars!"
Dined on 6/2/2013
wonderful food, like the variety
of side choices. Great atmosphere for conversation too - none of that crazy loudness you find in so many restaurants now"
Dined on 6/1/2013
Tucked on a quiet residential
street, Signature has great upscale food. We've enjoyed it many times. Friendly service. Good, fresh ingredients in all dishes. Menu varies depending on availability of meat and fish. Pot roast is a good stand-by if nothing else on the menu is exciting."
Dined on 5/22/2013
None of the people in our group
had ever been to the powder horn park neighborhood. We were happily surprised to find Signature Cafe in the middle of a lovely, quiet street. Most of the diners were on the patio, so inside was quiet and cozy. Three out of the four of the group eat mostly vegetarian food, so we were very happy when all of the special appetizers, and pasta specials were vegetarian options. Everything was delicious. We decided to order all the small plates and share it family style. Great evening."

Great food in neighborhood house.
Staff was overwhelmed at our visit and seemed to be stretched with number of diners. Outdoor patio could be improved. We brought our own wine ans d were offered cheap glasses for it. This was a small batch expensive wine that needed to breathe. We were given appropriate glasses when we explained the vintage. I would recommend this restaurant with the caveat to not expect a lot of ambiance"

We have never been disappointed
having a meal at th eSignature CAfe."
Dined on 5/9/2013
Very underwhelmed after many
AMAZING meals in this space. Seemed like a different vibe -- is there a new chef? I wish we had known."
Dined on 4/8/2013
The table service needs some work.
The chef owner needs to be more aware of the service aspect of the front of the house. Had he known how awfully slow the service was, he would likely be upset. The chef is talented and very passionate about his business. This little place has huge potential but the service was dreadful. Servers were ignoring tables, talking too long at other tables....BAD."
Dined on 4/4/2013
Wow! What a gem. I am so glad to
have finally visited Signature Cafe. It was a fabulous experience - quiet, romantic, quaint and super yummy food! I would go back in a heartbeat and highly recommend it."
