SidneyWhat a gem!Recently tried this restaurant on a whim and fell in love with it. The location may seem a bit out of the way -- the restaurant is located in the heart of tiny East Berlin -- but it is definitely worth the trip. It's a good excuse to travel the back roads of Adams County and appreciate Pennsylvania's beautiful farmlands. Have tried the pork chop -- more like a steak -- the salmon, a spicy carrot soup, the hamburger, oh, and the homemade potato chips, and all of it was wonderful. Couple that with friendly service, great drinks, and a warm atmosphere and you can't go wrong. A great spot for couples and families. Really, can't say enough nice things. The service started off with a bit of a hiccup - we were seated and no one came to the table for a good 10 minutes - there were bus people in and out of the dining room - and still no server. We finally had to ask a bus person if we had a server! They finally came over and brought menus - but no acknowledgment or apology - it was if nothing was wrong at all - rather a bit strange. But, the service the rest of the evening was very good, so I guess they redeemed themselves. The food was outstanding! The setting was aesthetically pleasing, the chairs comfortable. There was no music playing which in a way was good as everyone's taste in music is different. On the other hand, it seemed On the staid side. We were early diners so the room was fairly empty. As more people came, a pleasant buzz of conversation made up for it a bit. Everyone at East Berlin Smiles has their favorites, but when we do try something new, we are never disappointed. The staff is always very attentive and friendly, and Sidney always delivers fresh, delicious food that's artfully presented to the table. What more can I say? My companion had the Hake which was a limited time item allowing for a new tasting experience. The highlight of the beautiful evening was the chef had prepared a special diabetic dessert - which frankly I had forgotten that I had asked for and didn't really hold any hope that it would happen. The bread,served to munch on while perusing the menu, was outstanding - and I am a bread "snob!" Our cocktails were wonderful, too - creative, and there was no stinting on the alcohol. Appetizers were divine, and the entree was absolutely delicious. I would have enjoyed the dessert more had I not been so full from all the delicious food that came before! My one and only complaint is that we had to ask for water, which was promised to us when we were presented with the menus. But...if that is the only thing I have to complain about, well, you get the idea!
