Diner Reviews
  • "Friendly, helpful staff. Excellent, generous cocktails."

  • "We were so delighted with our experience at Sidney's that we asked our waitress halfway through dinner who we needed to talk with to make reservations for the following night. Alas, they had a wedding then, so we settled for a great lunch instead! Food was delicious, beautifully presented, creative and interesting. We now have a new favorite in Gettysburg!"

  • " Since it was an absolutely beautiful evening, we ate outside, overloooking part of the battlefield. I was a bit dissappointed in the ambience indoors so I was very glad to choose outdoor seating. The waitstaff was extremely attentive to my husband and I, and accomodated my Gluten Free diet. I let them know in advance and they were ready for me. They had some wonderful GF breads and they made their own GF pasta-a nice surprise! The Chef actually prepared a dish, not on the menu, to accomodate me. The food was fresh, looked and tasted delicious. I can't say enough good things about our waitress. She was patient, knowledgeable and could not do enough to please us. It was a wonderful experience that I highly recommend. But try to eat outside."

  • "The food here is amazing. The Chef keeps coming up with great specials you find no where else. Even his sister restaurant should take his restaurant advice. But he owns both! Outside dining is a treat."

  • "And incorporates local produce and fruit with elegant presentation and inventive preparation. All in all an enjoyable dining experience!"

  • "We visited on Sat. July 5th and had oysters, pate, pan-roasted chicken, pork chop, and smoked trout dishes. While the trout with fresh pea blintz was scrumptious and the pork was impossibly tender & juicy, the chicken & pate (app) dishes were real stand-outs. Memorably good, perfectly seasoned, & artfully presented with the tastes and colors of summer. The crispy, yet tender chicken was served with the most yummy minted pea ravioli -- so perfect that I could have eaten a whole bowl of nothing else! The chef likes Chinese five-spice a bit too much, but otherwise has a fantastic palate. The amuse was fab, but skip the gummy, tasteless "strawberry ball" mignardise. The other desserts (chocolate trio and Paris breast) were worth every calorie!"

  • "My husband and I had his birthday dinner at Sidney at Willoughby Run. He had the baked chicken entree, I had the rockfish. Both were a feast for the eyes and the palate, and we enjoyed them immensely. The service--our server was Edmund--was also impeccable. We highly recommend Sidney."

  • "Best restaurant in Gettysburg. Awesome food, and knowledgeable staff. Portions are perfect. Selections are very interesting and tasty, nice outside atmosphere. Priced right."

  • "Had dinner on the porch overlooking what was once a battlefield, but now a nice green pasture with woods in the background. Food was outstanding (especially the snapper over gnocchi and sausage). Careful and attentive service."

  • "Of the few restaurants that appeared to be above bar fare, this one seemed to be one of the few restaurants with a unique menu. I chose to overlook the multiple reviews that shared how poor the service was and odd the location was for a restaurant serving this type of food. The food ultimately was good and well prepared but so, so overshadowed by an odd location and sub-par service. The restaurant is in the former country club, not old country club. So envision a modern banquet hall with tall ceiling and moveable walls. When we walked into the reception area. I was convinced we were at the wrong place. The waitress was really trying but had too many tables and a walk thru the ballroom to get food each time."

  • "My husband and I like to try new places on our anniversary. This year we tried Sydney Willoughby. We ate outside in spite of pending storm. Atmosphere outside was quiet and when the rain started, we were dry under porch. Everything we ordered tasted great, but menu is NOT for the traditionalist. Changes daily from what I read. Inside was nothing noteworthy. More of a special occasion venue with a restaurant as an afterthought."

  • "Read about the restaurant and chef in NY Times. Lived up to the positive review. Every course was beyond outstanding;the service was excellent also. We chose to sit outside and glad we did-it was pretty and peaceful. We will definitely be back."

  • "We recently dined at your restaurant while visiting Gettysburg for the weekend. The food, service and overall experience was excellent. The variety of different flavors were delicious. Our party's Ages varied from 7 to 71 and everyone enjoyed the food and the restaurant."

  • "We recently enjoyed dinner here on a weekend visit to Gettysburg....we have dined in the area on other occasions, and have been forced to pay high prices for mediocre food. Not the case at Sidney at Willoughby Run----the food here was fresh, seasonal, locally sourced and delicious. We were thrilled to find this hidden gem, which is situated in a quiet area near the battlefield....there is also a day spa next door, which we wish we had discovered!!!"

  • "This is an excellent restaurant and for those that have never experienced small plates or shared plates you are missing out. This is one of the best restaurants in the region and Gettysburg needs to embrace it. Excellent food for a fair price."

  • "Small portions, a plain and blah environment may work in NYC, but not in this small town! The server was worthy of 5 stars! The food was tasty but not outstanding. Half price Champange was a great idea. Will try other places when we return."

  • "We, my two cousins and I had an excellent experience while visiting Gettysburg. Not only was the food Delicious, but the presentation was delightful. I particularly enjoyed the Mint a d Fresh Pea soup. My. Cousin who is Vegetarian had several nice options. Kenwood return if againbinbthe area. Our server Meghan was wonderful and so very helpful."

  • "I had hoped to dine outside… having reserved on line at a very early time…but was told those table were taken… (we were the first diners) … and there was nothing on the web site to choose a preference… (for dining outside….)… I specifically picked this place for both food and the web sites testimony for beautiful outside views of the battlefield…. we got the restroom view …. On our way out… I noticed there were still, several empty outdoor seatings, that pretty much remained empty for our entire dining time… I had driven 100 miles to meet someone there for a nice evening… This may not be (entirely ) the restaurants issue… If OpenTable put a preference for outdoor dining, that may be helpful."

  • "Sidney is a bit down the street from downtown but oh so worth the five minute drive! Delicious food--the best we had in Gettysburg!"
    Dined on 6/7/2014
  • "Sidney at Willoughby Run is located in what was the new clubhouse for a country club that went bankrupt. This leads to a few idiosyncrasies about the place. The entry lobby is large, but the very large space behind the hostess podium is pretty much empty. The indoor seating is in a room on the other side of this space, with outdoor seating on a long porch that runs along the entire side of the building. Indoor seating - not very special. Outdoor seating - very nice, overlooks a golf course (I recommend it, weather permitting). The service and food were exceptional; with the entire wait-staff teaming to take care of each table. As restaurants in Gettysburg go, this is the place if your emphasis is food over ambiance."

  • "We were lucky to find this restaurant! It is outstanding. The food was wonderful. We had a nice seating on the porch. The waitress was very attentive. No rush at all. This was the best experience of our trip to the USA (we come from the Netherlands)."

  • "Wow! Dinner was absolutely delicious. Reviews for food were great, but we didn't believe them. We've eaten in some spectacular restaurants around the world. This was right up there. My husband's duck dish and my king salmon with baby peas and a sprightly sauce, heirloom beets with a little faro, cucumber, granny smith apple, and horseradish cream were all sensational. The presentations were stunning -- out of a magazine. The tastes were exquisite. I don't eat meat, but was tempted to taste the duck--it looked that beautiful. We ate extra slowly to savor each mouthful. The rhubarb dessert was equally delicious. The only disappointment was the trio of ices dessert--too much macaroon and homemade cone and not enough ice."

  • "Sidney is a hidden gem in Gettysburg PA. It is out of the clutter of tourist traps and allows an opportunity to relax and enjoy a wonderful meal in a stress-free atmosphere. We had an early dinner on a Friday night - the food selection was impressive and creative. The large plates for sharing and the small plates for tastes in addition to the entree size plates was great for our group of 5. We took advantage of all the options. We had to pass on dessert since we were all full from the earlier selections. My only concern was that one dish was over-salted - but it was a small plate that we had gotten to share - so it wasn't a big deal."

  • "We read the reviews and were prepared for the setting, which as the other reviews state is not great. Walked through a bar and then a banquet room to get to our table. There is virtually no decor or atmosphere, no pictues, nothing but a very plain room. The service was quite attentive and polite. The food was awesome!!!!"

  • "My husband and I were in Gettysburg for the day and found this restaurant on Open Table. It was our first experience dining at Sidney's and we were not disappointed. The service was second to none we have ever had. We both ordered the pork chop, which was thick and juicy - just perfect. Other reviews criticized the ambiance. Granted, it used to be a country club, so if you are looking for country inn feel, this is not the place for you. If you know going in that it used to be a country club and temper expectations accordingly, you won't be disappointed. The background music was a nice mix of mostly traditional and contemporary jazz. The food and service were of such high quality that we will be back when we are in the area."

  • "Located in the clubhouse of a defunct golf course, the ambiance is not thrilling. The property is actually on one of the many locations of battle during the Gettysburg battle. The staff were very friendly and attentive once they served a large party in an adjoining room. The food and drinks were worth the short wait, however. We would definitely return for the food....all 3 of us were pleased with our selections. Food was served hot, and all was made from fresh ingredients. We enjoyed our dining experience."

  • "A birthday dinner at Sidney's Willoughby Run was great. The food was excellent, elegantly presented, and out of the ordinary. The wait staff was well trained and very knowledgeable about the food. Sidney's is a place where I am willing to try food that I don't normally eat or haven't tried before because it is so good and the combination of foods is unique. A great place for a special occasion. "

  • "We enjoyed our brunch. The food was great. The waitstaff was wonderful. However, there were incidents with the meat carving station person. Even though he wore rubber gloves, he did not use a fork to place the meat on the guest plate , he used his fingers. He also would rub his hair with his hand and then handle meat. Also the eggs benedict were overcooked on the bottom. It was difficult to cut it into bite size pieces. The english muffin was like rock on the bottom. The last is a suggestion to have a seafood dish in addition to meat. We enjoyed the brunch but I skipped the meat carving station. The desserts were superb. We dine frequently at both Sidney's and will return."

  • "I love this restaurant, but the Mother's Day brunch was truly mediocre. The seating was out of a stale wedding reception, the food was lukewarm and bland (the poached egg was even cold!), there were not enough wait staff to handle the crowd so we had to wait for our check and our child grew impatient, and really the cost, at $219 for four (the three adults had an adult beverage each) was ridiculous. If Sidney at Willoughby Run can't do a buffet, no one can. And Sidney can't. By the way, it's kind of obnoxious how the tip table is based on after tax amount and not before tax amount. A tiny quibble, but just saying."

    Dined on 5/10/2014
  • "We were first time Sidney diners, but had reviewed the intriguing menu online. The food did not disappoint, but the dining room, which is nothing more than the bar area of the adjoining country club, did. The service was attentive although maybe a bit slow and despite the dining room environment, the quality of the cuisine carried the day."

  • "We had a marvelous time. Was seated on the porch overlooking the beautiful golf course/landscaping. Servers were attentive, informative and gracious. Food - the Chef(s) were on top of their game. The Salmon was to melt in your mouth, the Escolar and Pork Tenderloin were very tender and the presentation was worth a picture. Dessert followed with the same perfection and eye appeal. We will return."

  • "Very pleasant eating on the terrace as twilight approaches. Beautiful lawn and landscape. As I was thinking it would be nice to have a candle on the table, our server magically appeared with one. Great food, service and relaxed atmosphere."

  • "We were trying to find a nice restaurant in our travels, and found Gettysburgh to be a bit lacking, surprisingly. This restaurant more than fit the bill. The food was Wonderful! Very nice menu with REALLY nice options. We liked it so much, we went back the next night. Excellent find that I highly recommend!!"

  • "This restaurant is in an old country club's bar area (they call it a "tavern" - it's not). The space has not been updated to make it feel like a restaurant and you can see what used to be the country club's event space / dining room (which has just a couple tables and chairs in it) from the bar. The space feels empty and the ambiance is awkward. The service was fine but there were three servers for a total of eight tables. We didn't get why such a small place would need three servers but props to the restaurant for giving three college kids jobs. Sadly the food didn't work. Weird combinations that didn't taste right. Seems like they're still figuring out the menu. I'd suggest simplifying and adding some solid basics. "
