Diner Reviews
  • "The staff made my husband and myself feel very comfortable. Our waiter, Christopher, was very friendly but yet professional. It was a great dining experience. The food was sometime different but appetizing."

  • "The food was so delicious, we ate here two nights in a row! Fantastic vegetarian menu! Can't wait to return to Tampa just to be able to eat here again!"

  • "From the minute we walked in to Side Berns, we were not disappointed. The service was as good as it gets and food wasperfect. We will certainly talk about our dinner until the next time we enjoy this fine restaurant. Harris H McIlwain, MD"

  • "I have been to Berns several times and unfortunately there was no availability so i reserved Side Berns. It did not disappoint and was nothing short of fantastic."

  • "What a fantastic restaurant! Best vegetarian menu ever! Cheese selection was wonderful too. Even the Mojito was fabulous! Ginger, our server, was perfect! We loved it so much, we made a reservation for the next night and asked for Ginger. Outside dining area was lovely and music was perfect! We will definitely be back on our next visit to Tampa! LOVED IT!"

  • "We went to SideBerns for the first time on March 29,2014. We have been to the original Bern's many times and although the steak and desserts were excellent, the stuffiness was such a turn off so we were curious about SideBern's. From the minute we walked in, we knew this was such a different atmosphere, in a good way! The wine list is extensive and the food was great. I feel you get the high quality wine and meat choices similar to the original Bern's but without the stuffiness and formalities. We will definitely be dining at SideBern's again."

  • "This was the most fantastic meal I've ever had. The cheese was delicious along with the vegetarian menu."

  • "As we walked up to the entrance, we admired the charming covered portico and the lovely Spanish guitar music playing. Once we opened the door to the restaurant, the NOISE hit us! We asked if we could be seated outside and were led to a great four-top and the beginning of a great dinner and great conversation. We chose the tasting menus, and my husband was able to substitute a couple of the options off the vegetarian tasting menu, since he doesn't eat red meat. These two vegetarian dishes were the only weak link, as they were just not that interesting. All the other dishes, and the excellent wine selection, made us excited to return for more! Our server was wonderful, the sommelier was very knowledgable, and the rest if the staff was great!"

  • "Disappointed with every dish. Salad (beet) was too small and lacked any greens. Main course (pork chop) lacked any flavor and desert (cheese cake) was in pieces and also lacked any flavor., sent it back. Entire meal except wine was disappointing. Noise level was very noise where it was difficult to hold a conversation. Have eaten before chef change and always enjoyed. New menu was disappointing and expensive. Overall not a pleasant experience..Not recommended."

  • "Our second visit to Sidebern's did not disappoint. We began at the bar, which during happy hour provides a nice assortment of nicely priced cocktails, wine and small plates. Moving on to dinner, every entrée for our party of 4 was beautifully prepared and presented. The menu is creative, with a decent selection of wines by the glass and a deep, but expensive, wine cellar. The restaurant has nice, low lighting that contributes to an simple yet elegant atmosphere. My only suggestion would be to provide more spacing for the tables. I kept bumping into a chair at an adjoining table, and the noise level could be difficult to talk over from time to time. Otherwise, dine early to avoid this issue."

  • "Four of us dined with you and all but one meal was outstanding. The elk was very tough, fish dishes were outstanding. Wine list incredible."

  • "We had 4 people in our party, One of the two appetizers were good, no one cared for their entrees, they no flavor, the chef must have had a bad night, we would never go there again. Very disappointing, we had a good meal there a few years ago, and that is why we booked, never again!"

  • "Service could have been better. Things werent timed very well and the waitress was not particularly attentive, given the quality of the restaurant. The food was excellent."
    Dined on 3/17/2014
  • "On the positive side, the ambiance and service was excellent. Our server was attentive but not intrusive. The food, however, was good, but not great. Given the prices, I would expect better. My wife and I both thought the food was bland. We have eaten here before and really enjoyed the food and the interesting selection of mixed drinks. We considered it one of our top restaurant picks until this dinner. Perhaps they had a off night with the food."

  • "I thought this was supposed to be a little like Bern's Steakhouse. Only 2 steaks on the menu. A filet and an Elk sirloin. Both had some sweet sauce that was not very good."

  • "Love the food here, always delicious! The atmosphere is very warm, trendy, and romantic."

  • "the tasting menu with wine flight was an excellent choice to sample this restaurant's fine cuisine. At first the portions seemed minuscule, but as the meal progressed we realized that it was indeed enough, and by dinner's end we were sated. Kudos to the chef and staff for a very pleasant and enjoyable evening."

  • "It was a really great first time experience for us on our anniversary. We shared the tasting menu since we couldn't decide so we were able to taste a variety of food and flavors that we normally wouldn't. Great bread basket. Had to ask for a refill because I was addicted to the jalapeno cheese sticks."

  • "But, I would have much rather gone to Berns for the money we spent there. We ordered an appetizer, two entrees, and two desserts and a total of 4 drinks. The drinks were great. I got the Snapper Entree which was a little watered down and was almost like fish soup. I mean it was decent, but I wasn't wow'd by it at all. The deserts were okay, not much to choose from. They had more of a cheese selection. (i am not a cheese eater, but if you like cheese you might like the desert). Anyways, our bill was about 140 plus. and I felt like I could have gone to berns and spent less and had a better experience. The wait staff was nice. The decoration inside was nice. But overall I would go there again, but probably not anytime soon."

  • "Have a great dinner at Sidebern's and then walk down a block to the dessert room at companion restaurant, Bern's. OOh-la-la. If you want to impress, you will. (Nice place to fall in love.) One piece of advice: if you are going to fret, worry, obsess about how much a meal will cost, DO NOT COME. More than half the fun is enjoying without worrying."

  • "First time eating here, had heard great things. Definitely was not disappointed, everything we had was delicious. Salad, homemade pappardelle pasta, Elk Loin and Snapper. All of it was wonderfully prepared."

  • "My coworker and I dined at SideBerns last night, after several days of mediocre food in the downtown area. We ventured out from where our hotel was located, and were happy we did. Excellent food, great service and ambiance. We sat outside, which was lovely. My atlantic char was cooked perfectly, and the portion size was right on. My coworker had the filet and said it was delicious. The best part of the meal was the dessert! We each ordered ice cream, and devoured the macadamia and Vietnamese coffee flavors. I'm still thinking about it! Overall, this place is expensive, but well worth it, especially for a special night out. Highly recommend."

  • "We joined two friends for dinner at sideberns. Our reservation was for 6pm so we were some of the first to arrive. The service was good and our waiter was helpful in pointing out good dishes. One of the friends ordered elk. We all tasted it and agreed it was excellent. The short ribs were also very good. The pork chop was a disappointment. At the end of the meal we indicated our plan to go to Berns dessert room and our waiter took care of the reservation."

  • "This was a disappointing evening. We had reservations for 7:15 to celebrate a birthday at the table. The noise level from the bar was so loud that we had to yell at the table to hear one another. We expected a more sophisticated evening. Having been there before, we selected this spot thinking it would be that. The bar crowd spilled over into the dining area and were oblivious to the diners. Then, with the cost of dinner, we had expected more. Be aware..the portions are small and the taste, well - OK, no starch with the entrée. Note that we enjoy fine dinning often. The service is good..staff friendly. On this point..I had noted the birthday in our reservations, at the front desk, and to our server. No mention of the birthday at all."

  • "Restaurant food was very good, service was horrible. Waitress was friendly but largely missing throughout the quiet Thursday night. She described a meat on the charcuterie plate as "buttery" and it was anything but buttery! It was a good salami but her description had our group of 5 curious and interested. She brought the wrong wine (Flowers blend rather than the Pinot Noir) but we gave it a shot. It wasn't bad but we ordered the Pinot as a 2nd bottle. She said she'd ring them up as two of the cheaper wines but turned out she rang up them as two $100+ bottles rather than $57. Ouch. Getting the bill corrected was long and painful. I worry that my credit card was charged twice for dinner. Manager never came by to explain and/or apologize."

  • "Took my wife and parents to dinner. We were ultimately disappointed. While the wine selection was very good, the food preparation was not up to fine dining standards. The filet and both fish dishes were overcooked. The best item was the gnudi appetizer. Beautifully delicate."

  • "My appetizer was "heirloom" tomatoes on this "winter" menu. I would not recommend it. Thinly sliced tomatoes with no flavor. There is a limited menu - the "winter" menu - from which you have 8 entrees to choose from. I chose the pork tenderloin/belly. And did not eat it. I was expecting something different based on the description. It came cut up in small pieces the size and shape of a domino and had sliced apples just lying on the plate around it. And i love pork belly! Not here, however. My husband's filet was nothing special. It's like they try to be a fancy upscale restaurant, yet the food and the presentation(s) are sub par. My cosmo was good, though!!"

  • "We went for our 34 the wedding anniversary Expecting a great steak menu. We were extremely disappointed! All three people In our party would not go again. In the reservation, I had stated that it was our 34 th Anniversary and there was not even a congratulatory Word. The menu was not to our licking; my fish was blend-no flavor at All. The Filet mignons were average (my husband does a better job at that At home), the dessert was also disappointing. It was not a good anniversary since we did Not enjoy the food at all. The food is overpriced as we'll."
