We were surprised to find ex-employees picketing a tried and true favorite of ours. The signs alluded to past wages owed to employees, we were clueless and as we were meeting 2 other couples for dinner we continued with our plans to dine at the Sidebar. The usual spot on and amazing bar service was greatly lacking in speed and knowledge of their classic cocktails. In fact, the whole tempo of the meal was thrown off by the pitifully slow bar service. The food was tasty, especially the lamb shank pizza, who knew? Unfortunately the neophyte service and the ruckus outside outweighed the tasty food. Hopefully they will soon get their act together again.

The food was great, though overpriced, and the service was terrible. Even though they were not busy, we waited over 30 minutes just to get someone to take our drink order. It's a good thing we ordered dinner at the same time. Our server checked back once to see if the food was okay and then basically disappeared. We had wanted another drink, but because no one ever came back, my friend had to go up to the bar to ask for our check.

Our night there happened to be during restaurant week. They had a great selection for this special week but don't think they expected such a large turnout, which is why service was a little slower than usual. Food was excellent and Sidebar continues to be a favorite of ours.

  • Nice ambiance and the food
    OpenTable Diner Since 2012
    Dined on 7/20/2012
Nice ambiance and the food was priced well for the quality but our service left a lot to be desired. Did not have several of the beers on the list. Waiter kept going back to the bar only to come back empty handed. The rest of our table had their drinks for a good 20 minutes before my husband finally got his beer and we had to ask another waiter to go get it. Too bad. Liked the food and the atmosphere but would probably not go back because the service was poor.

  • I really like the small-plate
    OpenTable Diner Since 2012
    Dined on 7/7/2012
I really like the small-plate approach to dining - I got just the right amount. The food was excellent all around, with an emphasis on seafood. The drinks were a bit crazy; the custom cocktails were a really nice approach, but the descriptions were just a list of ingredients - no information about how strong or flavorful they were, especially as I'm not intimately familiar with every brand of liquor. Only other critique would be that my reserved table was directly next to the door (as in, the back of my chair was a foot from the entryway). Every time someone entered or exited, I got blasted with the outdoor weather. For a reservation, that was uncomfortable.

The food was good and the staff was very friendly and knew all about the menu. The menu was a little confusing though because you could get full-size entrees or make them tapas, according to our waiter, although the prices for the tapas sizes weren't listed so we were a little afraid to go that route. Very nice place overall though.

Note to Opentable: I will no longer be posting reviews to this site. I will go to Tripadvisor where the reviews are more accurately represented.

I keep going back to ar. The food is great, the wait staff attentive and knowlegeable, and the ambiance is lovely. I keep going back, and I love to take out of town visitors to Side Bar, as it is definitly a destination dining experience in Dayton. I am a dedicated foodie, and and an accomplished cook. I have a refined palate and I am admittedly a first class food snob. Side Bar 410 has become one of my favorite places to dine. I definitely consider it a place that I, as a citizen of Dayton, am proud to call my own.

We had a large group of 12 celebrating a college reunion. All the food choices were great. The serving size portions are medium size, so the group shared appetizers and the individual selections varied. Outstanding cocktail menu with many made from scratch recipes. Wine list presented a good selection. We thought the palce would be more crowded on a Saturday night, but after about 8-8:30 it was moderate.

My friends and I treated ourselves to a girl's luncheon and plan on treating ourselves to SB again! Even though it was a Sunday brunch, the waiter was kind enough to ask the kitchen if they could prepare the scallops appetizer from the dinner menu, which my friend and I had enjoyed on a previous occasion, and the kitchen was kind enough to indulge us! Everything from the appetizers to the desserts was wonderful. Our server was attentive, professional and engaging. We can't wait to treat ourselves again!P.S. OpenTable Diner Since 2011
    Dined on 5/19/2012
Of the four dinners that were ordered only one person was satisfied. One pasta dish was entirely too spicy to eat, on the menu there was no mention of it being a spiced dish. The quinoa salad came with a very sweet dressing which again was not mentioned in the menu. The person who ordered the salad is diabetic and was not able to eat it. The lamb shank contained way too much fat. Probably the most upsetting part of the dinner was that a martini was ordered and requested the blue cheese stuffed olives to be included, which they were. But it is the first time any of us had seen a charge for olives. Truly an a la carte menu.
