Diner Reviews
  • "Food was good as usual but I think I've had better here. Maybe it was just the selections since ate things we normally do nor order here. Everything was fine but the wait for things was longer than usual. Still a great spot for dinner and one of my personal favorite places to eat on the island."

  • "In what it asked for, it was wholly delicious. Everybody was satisfied."

  • "Food is amazing with local flare and a fusion of island cuisine. Pork chops are amazing and the fried rice is Ono Ono. The finally desert peanut butter crunch will change your whole world, I highly recommend."

  • "Side Street on Kapahulu in Honolulul is always recommended by locals. Our group of 4 had 3 of the house favorites, fried rice, fried pork chops and spicy fried chicken. The portions are huge served family style and they discourage you from ordering too much. The food was great and the service was quick. It's great when a restaurant lives up to its reputation."

  • "As someone of Japanese descent, the food here hits all the right notes. Probably wouldn't do the volume of business it it wasn't in Hawaii."
    Dined on 3/24/2014
  • "It was very noisy due to to all the people there to watch March Madness. There are too many TVs and the CC was not on the evening I was there. Other than that, the place is fabulous - just make sure there isn't a major sporting event going on."

  • "Great food in a bar/diner setting. Wear your shorts and flip flops and chow down on the enormous portions."

  • "The Kapahulu location has all the great SS food from the original Ala Moana location, with much more convenient parking and good size booths and tables for parties. Service can get slow though when they get crowded and we waited a long time for our food because there were two large parties in the back - not really an excuse that a restaurant should make."

  • "We thought we'd try this place since it was mentioned in Sunset Magazine and we were very disappointed. The ribs we just ok but the fried rice was just plain bad. The portions were huge so I can see why it's so popular. I cannot seriously recommend it."

  • "Hey, if it is ggod enough for Allen Wong, it is good enough for me! Highly recommend, fried rice, Asian Salad, Boneless Kalbe Beef, and Frien Pork Chops! Wait staff handled our 6 top perfectly, and we ate family style, mixing and matching. Open Table res was so easy ans Side Street Kapahulu is very busy with long waits at popular hours so, use Open Table! Works great and we'll be back soon!"

  • "My husband and I had reservations at Side Street Inn on Monday. The restaurant was packed. The host was really friendly and we were seated right away but were put at the table right next to the service station/kitchen so there was a ton of foot traffic around us all night. The waitress forgot to put in our starter (ahi poke). Normally when this sort of thing happens, they comp a drink or something because of the mistake. Nothing here. My husband had the bacon cheeseburger and I had the bacon cheeseburger sliders. The food was fine but the cheeseburger was greasy and gave my husband an upset stomach. A large group was seated next to us halfway through dinner and after they were seated it was nearly impossible to get the waitress's attention"

  • "Great atmosphere. Great food. A wide variety of comfort food for any taste. Awesome dessert. Great selection of wine and spirits. Our family swears that the boneless kal-bi is the best you will ever have. We ALWAYS order the boneless chicken, "pocho" clams, calamari. pork chops and fried rice. Leave room and don't forget to place your order early for the molten chocolate cake for dessert. A fun place to dine."

  • "Side Street Inn is a very nice sports bar as well as a great place for couples as well as groups, very accommodating. Food is well priced and portions are generous and comes in a family style. Their Fried Pork Chops (a house specialty) or the spicy bone-out chicken are our favorites. They have a good variety of appetizers and other specials. We had the button mushrooms with garlic sauce, very tasty. They have a good wine and cocktail menu; I prefer the regular Margarita or the Mohito. Their service is fast and friendly with other waiters and waitresses eager to assist."

  • "Took a friend of mine out for dinner. Food was good as always but my mashed potatoes were really salty. I'd still come back. It wasn't the worst but I was surprised. I usually have exceptional food here."

  • "Went there for Valentina's day. Not exactly a romantic place to be but instead a causal dining experience. Restaurant is clean and has a "bar" theme, food portion is family size, good for large groups. Food is local and had some Chinese twist. Be prepaid for the smoky smell on your shirts and hair from the sizzling plates people ordered around you. Valet is $5 which I think should be $3 instead cause there are plenty of self parking and are feet away."

  • "We had been to the other Side Street location and this is the newer restaurant. The food was the same as the other location and we love the food and friendly atmosphere in this restaurant. It is best to go with a group as the dishes are served family style. The value is great."

  • "If you like the food at the old Hopaka Street location, but find the atmosphere to be a little ... um ... basic, try the Side Street Inn on Kapahulu. Our group tried the fried rice, kampachi and garlic chicken washed down with Chardonnay and pints of Longboard. It was all good and the service was quick and friendly. The restaurant is in converted office space -- nothing fancy, but comfortable. Dress casually. Valet parking is available, but so is self-parking in the adjoining lot. Great place to take visitors staying in Waikiki, since it's a walkable distance from hotels on the Diamond Head end."

  • "From the reviews my impression of this establishment was higher. The service was good our server was very informative, yet the food left me puzzled. I wished the food had more flavor, was little more refine in concept and less in quantity. Nothing was terrible, but probably will not return. The self parking lot is stressful, wish we knew about the valet parking ($5.00)."

  • "First time visiting this location. I always go to the original Side Street. I was happy to get a good table, good service, not nearly the noise of the original location and still the best food. A friend wanted to order the pork chops and we found them a bit dry but other than that, the fried rice was a good as ever as were the lilikoi ribs. YUMSTERS!"

  • "I was entertaining friends from out of town. The best comment that describes the food was that he usually really likes one or two dishes and the others are okay, but in this case all 4 items we ordered were outstanding."

  • "We wanted a change from beach hotel and high price dining and were pleasantly received. The meal s are generally small plates to be shared and we ordered pork sliders and a Chinese style roast pork which would have been enough for a small lunch. The fried rice was enticing and we received a plate that would have easily provided a side dish for 12! Seemed a bit of a waste to eat so little of it and we did overeat a little so would recommend that server a least mention that it is a large serving."

  • "Everything is served family style and a la carte. The food was very tasty especially the fresh fish with plenty to fill up two men. Reservations are important if you want a table right away. Limited valet parking for $5. Dress was very casual and the bar seemed to be doing a great business. Mostly locals know about this place."

  • "The menu says "family style" servings and you'd better pay attention. We only ordered the kim chee fried rice & Spicey garlic Chicken and ended up taking more than half home. I also don't like peanut butter, but they're popular dessert was "peanut butter crunch" with vanilla ice-cream. It was so good, I may go back just to have the dessert. Make reservations, we got there at 4:15 and the majority of tables were already reserved for a Friday night, so do the Open Table "thing"."

  • "Had a awesome time at Side Street inn. Food was great. Making reservations using open table was very simple. Side street inn then called us back to confirm our reservations and was even helpful in changing the amount of guest I originally reserved for."

  • "I had heard the fried rice and the famous pork chop, but was overwhelmed by the amount. Order with a small number of people is risky. Four articles was a sufficient amount, including the salad family of four. Cooking delicious, I had a great time with friendly staff."

  • "We've been to the original "alley" location and thought we were booking there. But this is the second location and it's every bit as good as the original and just as mobbed. The decor isn't as "authentically crusty" as the original but so what? All family style, and just massive amounts of fantastic Hawaiian comfort food. Deep fried pork chops? Bring it! Bone out Teriaki beef? Bring it! Insanely great fried rice with sweet Chinese sausage? Yes please. Even the OMG Peanut Butter Crunch Brownie for dessert was amazeballs. Yes, you feel like a bit of a pig at the end of it all as you waddle out, but wow, what a way to OINK!"

  • "Went with a group of friends for our Christmas dinner. Didn't have any expectations but heard from word if mouth that the food was great. It's very relaxed atmosphere and the service was on point. The waiter/waitress helped with some of their favorites and told us that it was more of a family style portions. We would definitely go again."

  • "I have lived in Hawaii for 18 years. Anytime a visitor comes in, I highly recommend them to come to Side Street Inn. Side Street Inn brings the best of local favorites. Make sure you bring a group of folks. It is family serving style. I recommend the garlic chicken, fried pork chops, Kalbi ribs, steam clams, and Lup Cheong fried rice. Did I mention…bring a big group. Actually, you can’t go wrong with anything you order. Best local food on the island."
