The only thing I notice is during the time you want to pay, it is hard to find somebody to pay the bill. When you ask somebody that you want to pay, it seems like you are bothering them. It is the same the 2 times I was there.

Frankly, the food and service were mediocre, and I think it's ridiculous to charge for green tea at a Japanese restaurant. Have had better experiences at this restaurant in the past, but likely won't return.

First visit and it felt like there 3 distinct areas to the restaurant: street level patio on the busy Granville St for people watching and heaters if the temps are chilly; inside around the bar with a big screen hanging above the bar; the dinning area. In all areas there was bustling energy and funky background music. Service was good and there were many specials to pick from their monthly specials menu as well as the regular menu. Great for a group night out, might be a little too noisy for a romantic date.

I was disappointed that they have removed/updated some of the dishes but never updated the menu. Our server even didn't bother to let us know ahead of time. Do they just hope that customers will not order those dishes provided the menu is not that big in the first place. Also, the sashimi salad is supposed to have the rice paper wrapped around the vegetables and sashimi. It was delicious and I had it a few times. They have changed the way they prepare it by cutting out the rice paper when I had it in April 2013. This time I gave it a try again and same disappointment. There are tons of good Japanese restaurants in town; they need to be more competitive. I definitely will not return again.

We ordered the BBQ baby back ribs, Donburi, Ramen, and the California rolls. The baby back ribs turned out to be spare ribs boiled until bland with sauce poured over and then grilled. It was really tough and did not fall off the bone tender like the menu stated. The Donburi was basically rice and onions with 3 small pieces of boiled chicken fried with egg. The chicken in the Ramen was grilled with the skin on and place into the salty soup, it some how tasted bitter. The California rolls were decent. The only consolation was that the service was good and the manager let us exchange the baby back ribs for another item.

I made an online booking 20 minutes prior to the visit and took my colleagues from overseas to this resturant as most favorite one did not accept the onlin booking bacause of too short notice. However this restaurant was not ready on our arrival and made us wait for more than 10 minutes to allocate a table. If they would not be ready at the booked time, they should not have accepted the booking. Furthermore, I don't recomment their Seafood Yakisoba (Fried noodle).

We got a call to confirm reservation and also a polite notice there's a 2 hour limit. Funny since it's not all you-can-eat but makes sense as I've seen people linger for an hour on 1 beer after their food is done places I was waiting for a table. Male server ignored my friend saying "hi" when we came in and he grabbed a menu at the entrance, walked off. Not a good sign! However, he was our server after we were seated and naturally warmed up as we ordered about $400 worth of food & drinks through the night for 7 guys. Awesome beef ribs with tons of meat, just like the pictures on the site. They even have chu-toro which is a higher grade of tuna belly. Sake & cocktails selection extensive. Been to Japan often & recommend for sure!

I was a big fan of the curry stone bowl, but I found that the food portion was falling short of the value. I have tried both chicken and pork cutlets within the last 2 weeks, and they both have smaller portion such as 2 pieces of Chicken Karrage and 1 piece of pork chop (cut into tiny pieces). The cook must try to make it look bigger because both pork & chicken have such heavy big panko crust. Understand that food cost is getting more expensive, but the bowl is more of rice with too little of protein! Don't think I'll come back in the future!

This was my second visit to Shuraku. I have liked everything we have ordered--and we ordered a lot. The service is great. The ambiance is exactly the type I like--busy but not too crazy. I'll make sure to return anytime I visit Vancouver. Also, by Vancouver standards it is very reasonably priced.

The variety of the food was what I would expect from any other tapa style Japanese restaurant. The service was attentive though, our server never left the teapot empty for too long. Presentation of the food itself was great and quality of the ingredients are definitely there. A more loungey/louder environment though, so if you're looking for a quiet romantic dinner this might not be the best pick. Overall an enjoyable experience and would think of coming back if I were in the area.

This was the first time I've been to this restaurant in close to 10 years. There were a lot of innovative twist on traditional starters and cooked main courses but the sashimi selection was on the limited size.Food did seem to take a bit long to arrive. We have been to their sister restaurant Zest which is the more formal, fine dining with linen type. It was interesting to see the wide range of offerings from the same company. Considering this being the only Japanese restaurant of its kind around the Granville Robson area I think it's nice change from its kind on the west end.

Delicious, fresh sushi and greens! Unfortunately server got a dish wrong and actually came out to "discuss". Luckily another server made sure it was corrected and finished off the service with us. Have been here before so knew it was not an ongoing problem. Sitting on the patio can get a little noisy and feels a little close to the pedestrians going by but the inside is lovely and quiet. I always order the stone curry bowl with either pork cutlet or chicken karage, which is usually good. However, my last experience was not so pleasing that the chicken was not fresh, with a stinky taste. I have asked my friend to try a piece, and he confirmed that the chicken meat has turned bad. I asked the server, who asked the manager to report the bad chicken. He took it back and gave me the stone curry with pork cutlet. I was not impressed by his defensive attitude, saying that his chef mentioned that the chicken meat was find. I would have dropped the case if they admitted their mistake, but it seemed that they cannot live up to the truth. I probably won't return as I do not know what to expect in the future.
