Shun Lee WestGood Choice Near Lincoln CenterThe point of Shun Lee West is not to discuss whether one can find better or more authentic Chinese food in Manhattan, say in Chinatown, or to note that the prices here are high. The point is: where do you want to eat in the neighborhood when you are attending theater, music, dance at Lincoln Center? ALL the restaurants in the area are expensive (Telepan great--haute cuisine; Bar Boulud--mediocre). Shun Lee West is very attractive. with its gold and black decor, gold dragons, and sunken dining room. Service is efficient, and portions large. Great for civilized groups or a date. The only problem is the underspicing for Americans (dumplings in tepid Szechuan oil??)!6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMBurpI have visited this restaurant for over 20yrs + have NEVER BEEN DISAPPOINTED! The food, the ambiance + the service here + in the Cafe are second to none.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMStill a keeper for Lincoln CenterOnly complaint is the high prices but usually guaranteed a delicious meal. Food is always excellent and service right on!5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent cuisine. OverallExcellent cuisine. Overall a nice lunchtime experience.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for pre-Lincoln CenterEnjoyed the privacy of being in a booth - as 4 people, we were able to hear the conversation! The service is incredibly attentive and moves along at a perfect pace to be able to make a performance on time. The duck and vegetable rolls were delicious, as were the two steamed chicken and shrimp lo-carb plates with an accompanying sauce. I found the chicken with nuts a bit salty, but that's an issue of personal taste. Love coming here and will return frequently.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMChina in New YorkWe had a wonderful experience at Shun Lee. The food, service, and ambience are wonderful. We just came back from China so wanted to extend our experience by dining in the best Chinese restaurant in NYC. It was also our anniversary so we thought to make it special. It was. The service was an added treat. The waiter couldn't have been more attentive and we spoke with him about China and Hong Kong. We want to go back to China and Shun Lee!!5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMgood but not perfectThe grilled scallop appetizer (lunch menu) is hardly worth the trouble -- not much taste, boring texture, no color.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMPrices through the roof!We have eaten here a lt, but haven't been in a few months. Perhaps I am remembering wrong, but the prices have soared. It used to be expensive, but never outrageously so. That has changed. It will now be for special occasions only...if at all.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMAfter theater dinnerThe ambience is pretty weird. Flying monkeys with red lit eyes and dragons all around the dining room. We were seatd in a booth which had penty of privacy. The appetizers and food were reallygood. The food was served hot, prepared correctly and filling. I would recommend in the future and would go again.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect for pre Lincoln CenterPerfect for pre Lincoln Center dining. Service is attentive and the food is very good. The cold sesame noodles and the honey baby spareribs are the best. In fact I have never had anything that wasn't great at this restaurant. Always crowded... must have a reservation. Put this on your places to try - you will not regret it!4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMSurprisingly good after allSurprisingly good after all these years. Food was superb!4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMWhile the maitre d' couldWhile the maitre d' could have provided us with a warmer and more friendly welcome, our waiter was a delight with a gracious smile and spot-on service. The velvet chicken and corn soup was heavenly. The spareribs were cooked and seasoned perfectly and the spinach that accompanied the meal fresh and green, just the appropriate crunchiness. I loved the scallion pancake and even though I'd already eaten way too much (it was so good), I would have found room for more as they were so good. My dinner partner had beef with peapods and declared it fabulous.
Then why only 4 stars? I would have given five stars if the maitre d' had been pleasant.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMContinues to be great foodContinues to be great food but has gotten really expensive.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Chinese in the city.Food is always great. Fun and very good food. The 5 course menu was perfectly balanced between spicy and mild, seafood and meat (excellent venison).
The appetisers were delicious as was everything except the soggy Pekin Duck (unforgivable!)

Whenever we are in the city we always enjoy a fabulous dinner here. At our last visit we enjoyed Shun Lee Wonton soup for 2, followed by a shrimp and scallop special entree of the day along with and an old favorite egg foo yung. Our food was served hot and artfully presented. Service was attentive but not overly so.12/23/2012 12:00:00 AM
