Really good Beijing duck and
everything else. Friendly staff, perfect food with service. Dumplings are special."

Shun Lee an institution has gone
downhill in every regard. The food most notably was fair at best . The service was aloof and unattentive. There are certainly far better choice."
Dined on 7/17/2014
very good food, great service,
elegant surroundings, limited menu, expensive"

Maybe our standards have changed,
and we had not been there in years, but Shun Lee did not impress us as it has in the past. The food was fine, and if you have an urge for Chinese, it will satisfy, just not blow your socks off."
Dined on 7/14/2014
Craving decent Chinese, Shun Lee
Palace was recommended to me by the concierge at the Waldorf Astoria. Uniformed "captain" greeted us and led us to our table. Wait staff was efficient, the drinks were stiff. Food was just fine, however the smallest food portions I have ever had at a Chinese restaurant; we ended up ordering another entrée after the main course arrived. They did accommodate a special desert order (lychee over almond jello). Two drinks, tea, one appetizer, two entrees, and one desert were $150 not including tip. Next visit, I'll be taking the Lex down to Chinatown."

If you appreciate high end chinese
this is the place for you."

We go to Shun Lee Palace for a
while and always enjoy the food and the service But something has changed at Shun Lee Palace the first thing we have noticed is They have changed the Menu from the elegant version to a cheap plastic laminated version Second And the way we have been served was different too - no more preparing the plates and serve (that always was great) Now all dishes been placed on the table and each one serve themselves The food didn't feel fresh It felt different - maybe that was that Sunday but overall was disappointing Not the same restaurant we like"

I was looking for a good Chinese
restaurant at the last minute. Most places couldn't seat me until a very late seating, so I decided to try Shun Lee's in a bind and was pleasantly surprised. Great pork fried rice, awesome broccoli, and a wonderfully flavored seafood medley. While the food was great, the service was even better. The captain and waiter were incredibly pleasant, very informative and extremely attentive. I was very pleased with the choice. By the way, the red bean crepe was awesome."

Wonderful food with unique gourmet
versions of Chinese as well as excellent versions of standard dishes. Exceptional service and a full bar make this a great place to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions."
Dined on 6/14/2014
Very pleasant ambience set an
upbeat mood, attentive service made us feel welcome, and, most important, it was a very good situation for conversation, which for us is the most important thing. The food was very good."
Dined on 6/14/2014
Went to Shun Lee for the first
time in a number of years. The food is still very good, but for the price the service should be very good, too. It was not; the service wasn't that much better than in my neighborhood (cheap) Chinese restaurant."
Dined on 6/11/2014
Grumpy waiters. Service was
efficient, not friendly which directly affects the dining experience."
Dined on 6/11/2014
very noisy -- they did not honor
my request for a quiet table. I had called twice to confirm that we would be a different number of quests than originally reserved. They assured me that that was recorded but when we got there they seemed surprised. "
Dined on 6/4/2014
Although the restaurant is
elegant, the food is hyper expensive for small portions of standard Chinese food. "

Crazy for Shun Lee Palace! I
worked around the corner for a few years beginning in 1972. My co-workers and I ate here every chance we got. More than 40 years later the food and service are still impeccable. The Hunan Lamb and Shrimp in Sechwuan Sauce are old favorites that still contain flavors not found in other restaurants. But I love to keep trying other dishes unique to Shun Lee, like their Sweetbreads. Whether you love Chinese food or want to share a wonderful dining experience with friends or business associates, don't miss a opportunity to eat at Shun Lee Palace."

La comida es de primera y la
atención es extraordinaria. Altamente recomendable."
Dined on 5/28/2014
The last two times were not as
good as previously. At the most recent dinner, the XO chicken tasted spoiled. The shrimp balls were huge dense clumps of shrimp with greasy bread cubes glues all around. The dumplings -- which used to be spectacular -- were so-so. The filet mignon dish was good but nothing special (though I'm glad we had it since the chicken was inedible). Very sad that this restaurant has gone downhill."

My boss gave me his credit card
and I took 2 of my friends out for secretary's day. This was my first time at Shun Lee, I usually go to another Chinese restaurant up the block. I was pleasantly susprised, the food was delicious and our waiter was very attentive. I will be going to lunch there another time. Thanks."
Dined on 4/29/2014
Lives up to its reputation. Duck
egg rolls enough for two, perfectly fried.. No low spots. Was best Chinese good in a long time. Went on a Thursday night,,, had to go back Saturday night before we left NY."
Dined on 4/24/2014
Shun Lee is quite expensive. For
that money, the food should be consistently perfect. On a recent visit, it was basically just fine. I've gone there a few times a year for well over a decade. It's still one of only a few places for more formal Chinese. And I enjoy it (and service and ambience are quite good). I have to say I was shocked at how expensive it's become. And I'm afraid to say that I thought it just wasn't that great."
Dined on 4/22/2014
Very good food, dishes are
prepared very well. Service was terrible, plates were left on the table without being cleared for 15 minutes and the restaurant was not that busy for that to happen. Then they put a mandatory tip on the bill for 4 diners.....we would not go back."
Dined on 4/20/2014
Enjoyed my meal.......sesame
noodles were very good- followed by chicken w Broccoli and shrimp in Lobster sauce. Its a bit pricey though! DC458"

I have been going to Shun Lee for
many years. Their Peking Duck is the best. Was there on my own on a Sunday evening and had a great table and fine service, even though they had some very big parties and tables. The restaurant was full."
Dined on 3/16/2014
We have been coming here for more
than 35 years! A winner every time!!!!"
Dined on 3/15/2014
We had the lunch prix fixe and I
could not believe the amount of jumbo shrimp on my companions plate! like about 8 huge ones. Delicious!"
Dined on 3/13/2014
I have gone to this restaurant for
many years. The ambiance is fine for a Chinese restaurant and the food has always been fairly consistent. This last visit was a disaster. We were seated in a banquette table under an air conditioner. When I said to the waitress that I was freezing she said "put on your jacket", even though there were other tables we could have moved to. She was rude and the food was very mediocre. We will never be returning."
Dined on 3/12/2014
...seriously! Pricy but the food
is really good, the service is great, the decor is old school and super comfortable."
Dined on 3/9/2014
This was a great place for a
client I took to lunch who was a vegan and had very strict dietary needs. The restaurant not only had numerous vegetable dishes but also made sure they steamed his vegetables exactly as he wanted them."
Dined on 3/6/2014
I had been to Shun Lee several
years ago. I enjoyed the experience then and decided to go back. This is a very pricey restaurant. The food was good however the service is great. But at the prices they charge the food should be great as well. They had a special called soupy dumplings. I ordered them as I like dumplings very much. They arrived in a timely manner but the flavor and texture were not what I would have called good. The rest of our meals came out. Everything was hot and freshly prepared but really didn't impress anyone in our group. We all had expected that the most expensive Chinese restaurant should have great food. As this was not the case I doubt very much that we will return."

Went here for my Birthday as I was
looking for an upscale fancy Chinese restaurant. The menu looked great and I figured we had found it, what a disappointment ! We ordered the special duck spring rolls and received a wade of grease, it was obvious they were just taken out of the fryer and literally after biting into it I had grease running down my chin. We had ordered a couple appetizers and decided we would order 1 entree, the waiter looked at us like we had 3 heads and then stated 1 for 2? We said yes for now, service was nice but felt slightly rushed and the food was not impressive. In fact I said to my wife I had not realized how good out local take out Chinese place was. Sorry to say we wont be back"
Dined on 2/21/2014
The food was great, nice host and
waiters The fried rice is the best I've ever had in my life The vodka and lycée drink is to die for The Beijing duck served with homemade crepes. The place is expensive, but the food and service is absolutely top notch."
Dined on 2/14/2014
Sophisticated Chinese food.
Excellent. Great presentation and delivery. Attentive but not intrusive service."
Dined on 2/11/2014
Excellent Food. Szechuan Shrimp
was best Chinese Food dish I have ever eaten."
Dined on 2/7/2014
The banquet food was varied and
plentiful, but some of it lacked personality. Dishes marked "spicy" were not. Portions of several dishes were grouped on one plate, and I would have preferred that each dish be served separately on small plates. The service was sometimes attentive and sometimes inappropriately rushed or slow to deliver. The atmosphere was festive and the restaurant is very attractive. The noise level was high, but not impossible considering that every table was occupied."

A regular at this great
restaurant, been coming here since the late 70s, food is always good, but this first evening of the lunar new year, the kitchen was really wonderful! The Peking Duck ordered from the menu was cooked to perfection, crispy skin wrapped tightly in their crepe envelopes, wonderful flavor, delicious soup dumplings, baked lobster, everything dish bursting with flavor. Only complaint and reason couldn't give service 5 stars was that we almost always had to ask for a pour and we ordered 3 bottles over the course of dinner. It was busy, but still no excuse. They also left a dinner guest waiting at the bar for 1/2 hour after we had been seated."
Dined on 1/31/2014
While the decor was lovely, the
rest of our experience was very mediocre. We dined on Chinese New Year and expected more than we received. We opted for the fixed price menue which sounded very good but was a disappointment. The first course was very slow in coming and it was cold. When we pointe out it was cold, plates taken and micro waved so hot that it burnt our mouths when returned. For the cost, would not recommend."
Dined on 1/31/2014
the food holds up but is
over-priced and the service is lacking. ancient waiters hover, rushing to clear dishes. one of the waiters smelled from having just smoked a cigarette. there are stains on the waiters uniforms. for the price, they need an upgrade"
Dined on 1/27/2014
The food is great and so is the
service Best WonTon soup ever Great size of portions"
Dined on 1/25/2014
So its not innovative, they've
been serving up elegant and delicious Chinese food for decades and it's hard to find more pleasant differential service."
Dined on 1/23/2014
It has been a number of years
since I was there, so I booked a lunch based on previous experiences coupled with the good reviews it continues to get. The food was average, not great, and certainly not deserving the relatively high praise shown in Zagats. The service was efficient, though brusque. And the prices were ridiculous: $15 for 4 generic dumplings? Please..."
