  • "I have been going to Shun Lee for many years. Their Peking Duck is the best. Was there on my own on a Sunday evening and had a great table and fine service, even though they had some very big parties and tables. The restaurant was full."

  • "Went here for my Birthday as I was looking for an upscale fancy Chinese restaurant. The menu looked great and I figured we had found it, what a disappointment ! We ordered the special duck spring rolls and received a wade of grease, it was obvious they were just taken out of the fryer and literally after biting into it I had grease running down my chin. We had ordered a couple appetizers and decided we would order 1 entree, the waiter looked at us like we had 3 heads and then stated 1 for 2? We said yes for now, service was nice but felt slightly rushed and the food was not impressive. In fact I said to my wife I had not realized how good out local take out Chinese place was. Sorry to say we wont be back"

  • "We had the lunch prix fixe and I could not believe the amount of jumbo shrimp on my companions plate! like about 8 huge ones. Delicious!"

  • "I have gone to this restaurant for many years. The ambiance is fine for a Chinese restaurant and the food has always been fairly consistent. This last visit was a disaster. We were seated in a banquette table under an air conditioner. When I said to the waitress that I was freezing she said "put on your jacket", even though there were other tables we could have moved to. She was rude and the food was very mediocre. We will never be returning."

  • "...seriously! Pricy but the food is really good, the service is great, the decor is old school and super comfortable."

  • "This was a great place for a client I took to lunch who was a vegan and had very strict dietary needs. The restaurant not only had numerous vegetable dishes but also made sure they steamed his vegetables exactly as he wanted them."

  • "I had been to Shun Lee several years ago. I enjoyed the experience then and decided to go back. This is a very pricey restaurant. The food was good however the service is great. But at the prices they charge the food should be great as well. They had a special called soupy dumplings. I ordered them as I like dumplings very much. They arrived in a timely manner but the flavor and texture were not what I would have called good. The rest of our meals came out. Everything was hot and freshly prepared but really didn't impress anyone in our group. We all had expected that the most expensive Chinese restaurant should have great food. As this was not the case I doubt very much that we will return."

  • "The food was great, nice host and waiters The fried rice is the best I've ever had in my life The vodka and lycée drink is to die for The Beijing duck served with homemade crepes. The place is expensive, but the food and service is absolutely top notch."

  • "Excellent Food. Szechuan Shrimp was best Chinese Food dish I have ever eaten."

  • "While the decor was lovely, the rest of our experience was very mediocre. We dined on Chinese New Year and expected more than we received. We opted for the fixed price menue which sounded very good but was a disappointment. The first course was very slow in coming and it was cold. When we pointe out it was cold, plates taken and micro waved so hot that it burnt our mouths when returned. For the cost, would not recommend."

  • "The banquet food was varied and plentiful, but some of it lacked personality. Dishes marked "spicy" were not. Portions of several dishes were grouped on one plate, and I would have preferred that each dish be served separately on small plates. The service was sometimes attentive and sometimes inappropriately rushed or slow to deliver. The atmosphere was festive and the restaurant is very attractive. The noise level was high, but not impossible considering that every table was occupied."

  • "A regular at this great restaurant, been coming here since the late 70s, food is always good, but this first evening of the lunar new year, the kitchen was really wonderful! The Peking Duck ordered from the menu was cooked to perfection, crispy skin wrapped tightly in their crepe envelopes, wonderful flavor, delicious soup dumplings, baked lobster, everything dish bursting with flavor. Only complaint and reason couldn't give service 5 stars was that we almost always had to ask for a pour and we ordered 3 bottles over the course of dinner. It was busy, but still no excuse. They also left a dinner guest waiting at the bar for 1/2 hour after we had been seated."

  • "the food holds up but is over-priced and the service is lacking. ancient waiters hover, rushing to clear dishes. one of the waiters smelled from having just smoked a cigarette. there are stains on the waiters uniforms. for the price, they need an upgrade"

  • "The food is great and so is the service Best WonTon soup ever Great size of portions"

  • "So its not innovative, they've been serving up elegant and delicious Chinese food for decades and it's hard to find more pleasant differential service."

  • "It has been a number of years since I was there, so I booked a lunch based on previous experiences coupled with the good reviews it continues to get. The food was average, not great, and certainly not deserving the relatively high praise shown in Zagats. The service was efficient, though brusque. And the prices were ridiculous: $15 for 4 generic dumplings? Please..."

  • "We have been dining at Shun Lee for years. It never fails EVER. This time we met our children for a New Year's Day lunch. It was superb. The duck is fabulous, as are the sweetbreads. It is all fabulous. I am actually not a Chinese food fan but this is high quality dining that is amazing. No gloppy unidentifiable sauces. Just wonderful ingredients prepared perfectly. Enjoy!"

  • "It's a pricy place, have no doubt. I wouldn't have eaten here if not for my grandmother. We went for dinner before a show, and everything was good and nice, but the thing that stuck with me is: the service was impeccable. The "Outstanding" as denoted by the star system doesn't even cut it. Wow."

  • "We had long wanted to go but, disappointingly, found food and wine over-priced, portions small, flavors unremarkable, waiters unsmiling (although mostly correct). Decor OK. Cannot recommend it."

  • "The original has lost some luster - the food was supremely mediocre - not bad, per se, but certainly not good...let's go with woefully uninspired in conception and preparation. Try the Shun Lee Palace West - I think it was better which is why we tried this one. Won't again."

  • "The first time we dined at Shun Lee, I overlooked the quirky service and odd atmosphere because the food was very good. Without the food to elevate the experience, the evening was quite a disappointment. I truly don't want to be mean, but one of the biggest downfalls of the service was the captain's severe halitosis and server's body odor. I'm sorry, but the management and other associates must be able to notice this, and it is very disturbing around food. The food itself was unremarkable. Only real enjoyable items were the fried rice and szechuan wontons. The Neptunes basket was served in an edible basket which tasted...dusty. The lemon chicken was inedible. With the amount of servers we had, there was a lack of attentiveness."

  • "We have been eating at Shun Lee Palace for many, many years. This time, we went with my brother and sister-in-law. He calls this "expense account Chinese food". I think he means that the prices are fairly sporting. I, however, feel strongly that the quality of the ambience, service, and (most importantly) the food justifies the expense. We have never been less than delighted with our meal - and the overall experience. We plan to keep coming back for years to come."

  • "If you love Chinese, Shun Lee Palace is one of the older and more elegant places to visit for more traditional fair. Food is great and the service is exceptional. They won't pressure you to order and allow you to have long breaks if you like between courses and before or after the meal begins. You definitely don't feel rushed and can enjoy your company."

  • "Service a little off with confusion over some dishes. Decor a little tired. Bring Adam Tihany back to refresh the decor!!! Love this place and want it to go another 20 years but they need to renovate."

  • "S.L.P. made our visit with some guests from London a memorable one, with an astute eye and fine food."

  • "No joke, the place is pricy. And if you're looking for the usual beef with broccoli type of fare, this isn't it. Food is more upscale than average Chinese place --- and it's delicious! Walters are very attentive (almost too attentive). And the booths are very private with their extra high backs."

  • "We were ready for some good Chinese food and we enjoyed it very much."

  • "The food was "eh" and overpriced. The wait staff stands around staring at the diners. Commercially wrapped fortune cookies just don't cut it for the price."

  • "It waas a very nice environment but we found the food to be average at best. I had the lemon chicken and the sauce was so thin that it barely flavored the deep-fried crust of the chicken. The shrimp in lobster sauce had beautiful prawns but again the sauce was flavorless and again very thin. We did like the staff and it was quite a nice place to eat in but for $120 chinese dinner for 2...dissapointment."

  • "Was not impressed wih Shun Lee Palace compared with its westside location. This location is just another typical chinese restaurant while the westside has the ambience and service that goes with the brand."
