Diner Reviews
  • "I have eaten at several Shula's establisthments and they are consistently excellent. If you visit this location, take time to visit the small bar adjacent to the dining room and and you may be lucky enough to find Jodi, a superior bartender and fun conversationalist. Our servers were on point through dinner and the food was amazing as always. Tried the twice baked potatoe this time as a side it was the best ever!!!"

  • "We made reservations for restaurant week on a Thursday afternoon at 3:30. Although the restaurant was absolutely beautiful and romantic, I would have preferred to come for dinner. The lunch menu was great but the setting was just too dim for lunch and way too empty that it almost felt awkward, especially since they were setting up for dinner (candles, plates, forks). It felt like we were almost in the way. Other than that, the food was delicious and the service was amazing and I would totally come back for dinner!"

  • "We very much enjoyed the quality of the food, the service and ambience were excellent. My husband ordered the sirloin steak and I ordered the salmon. Everything was very flavorful! We enjoyed the scrumptious carrot cake for dessert. I highly recommend Shula's for a wonderful meal prior to a show or just as a special treat."

  • "We ate at Shula's as part of a Restaurant Week deal after a play. Although we only had the $38 special menu, the wait staff treated us as if we were top-of-the-line customers. We came earlier than our reservation was for, and were able to be seated immediately. The decor was very classy and elegant. The food was delicious and well presented."

  • "Shula's has a football theme but it is in no way a sports bar - it is a warm and friendly steak house with classically well trained servers and excellent food. There was no scrimping on the restaurant week meal and while I've had slightly more tender steak the grilling was done to perfection and they waited until we cut into it to make sure it was cooked to our pleasure. The appetizers and desserts were excellent - a wonderful evening overall!"

  • "There are lots and lots of steakhouses, Shula's is not a bad choice, and in the Times Square/Theater District area probably the best choice, food-wise. But I wasn't all that thrilled with service--first, two different bottles of wine I ordered were out of stock (and the waiter tried to have me purchase the wine the restaurant was clearly pushing--which was seriously overpriced), but they did at least comp us a glass of Malbec (but not the type of red I had wanted to drink)--then the prix fixe included dessert, but we had to leave for the theater and they were seriously slow about having a piece wrapped to go, so we left."

  • "If Restaurant Week is supposed to make you want to come back, it doesn't work. The Lobster bisque (very small serving) was just OK (Costco's is better!). The steak was just average -- I thought it would be amazing -- and the sherry sauce with it was really just plain watery. Fries were pedestrian. Cheesecake was GREAT! Service was stern and smile-less, but efficient. My drink was way too heavy with vermouth. Why would I go back to spend twice as much if this is what it is like?"

  • "I'm french. So, excuse me for my bad writing. I looked an excellent Steack House in New York, near my hotel. I found SHULA'S Steack House on the website TRIP ADVISOR. The reviews were very positives. My teenagers and me were not disappointed. We very well ate ! I shall remember for a very long time the "FILET MIGNON" !!!"

  • "Absolutely delighted. We were late on schedule, when we got ther and the team did everything possible to make sure we would be on time to our show. Not only did they work as an outstanding team but the food is just perfect! I had a filet mignon and believe me, I have never eaten such a delicious and tender filet mignon and what can I say about the delectable cheese cake!!!! Everything we had was just out of this world!!!!! Thanks to the Chef of course but also to the whole team for making this and unforgetable event!"

  • "We came for restaurant week and the meal was very good. However, $15 for a cocktail? That was a bit expensive."

  • "The food was pretty good I had the filet mignon which was very tasty. I also tried the the Lobster Bisque was a bit salty and not a lot of of Lobster. I would go like to go back and try some other dishes."

  • "Overall nice place. My steak was a little overdone but the mushrooms were delicious. Bartender was cool. Low key place to have a drink and an appetizer before going to a real steakhouse."

  • "Took advantage of eating here during Restaurant Week and got a three course meal for $38. The wait staff was superb. The food was delicious. The steak melted in our mouths like butter. Made the entire evening very enjoyable. Definitely be a repeat customer."

  • "in general the food was good but the steak was tough and tasteless... not a good thing for a venue that bills itself as a steak house."

  • "On Wednesday 7/23 I took a coworker out to lunch for restaurant week and we decided to try Shula's Steak House. It was conveniently located in time square near our office and its nicely placed a block away from the madness that can stir from the broadway shows. The ambiance was classic, a hint of minimalism and overall very clean. The decor looked new and spotless but similar to a traditional steak house it was elegant gave you warming feel. I enjoyed the wedge salad and the filet, it was cooked perfectly and properly seasoned. I look forward to my next visit. (9.5/10 - Would recommend to friends)"

  • "Went there during Restaurant week pre-matinee ... excellent selections for appetizer, entree, and dessert - thoroughly enjoyed at a moderate price ... only complaint was $6.00/coffee"

  • "went to Shula's during NY Rest week and ordered from the 3 course menu. the "8-oz sirloin" was a half an inch thick, maybe 5oz, tasteless piece of meat, which one might expect to get at a "poor man's BBQ". appetizer and dessert were ok, but we had to ask the waiter for whipped creme, even so it was part of the dish. during RRW i expect a restaurant to "wow" me to make me a regular client, not to cut corners to be profitable. i went to Shula's in CHI and MIA and was pleased. here in Manhattan, only 5 minutes walking distance from work, i will NEVER come back. PS: we still paid $140 for a "lousy steak" experience"

  • "We enjoyed 2 meals here. My only complaint is on oyr dinner, the med rare steak was past medium and lobster overcooked"

  • "This was a big splurge on a very nice dinner in New York. The food was amazing! Loved the ambience. Our waiter was very nice and personable. Service did trail off as the dinner progressed."

  • "The food was excellent. We took the lobster tail with steamed asparagus and hollandaise sauce. An excellent dinner with friendly but very professional service. Not too formal We've had a very nice moment The only thing that is missing is a window, an outside view..."

  • "We've dined at Shula's Steakhouse in the WDW Dolphin in Orlando about 10 times in the past several years. We love it, and when we discovered that there was a Steakhouse in Manhattan we were so excited! To have one of those Shula's fillets...and the fantastic service...we could hardly wait! But, we were so disappointed. Yes, the fillets were good. But my rare was closer to medium rare, and my husband's medium rare was closer to medium. The mashed potatos were dry and the red wine demi-glace tasted more like a brown gravy from a diner. The server's never told us about any specials, nor did they describe any of the menu items, which is standard practice at the Dolphin. And, they were resetting the dining room for breakfast while we were eating"

  • "We opted for the three-course prix fixe pre-theater dinner. Great food at a very reasonable price. Nice quiet ambiance, service was impeccable."

  • "The food was really not good. How do they get away with it with a straight face?"

  • "Service is warm and inviting. We had the filet mignon with their creamed spinach, roasted corn with applewood bacon and grilled asparagus. The steaks were cooked perfectly and appropriately seasoned. The veggies were so good, we took home the extra spinach and corn and ate them as snacks later with chips. We enjoyed their crème brule trio -- absolutely yummy! The prices are typical for NY and the portions were good for 2. I would not pay so much for dinner on regular basis but as a special treat, it was worth it. We went during an "off" time so it was quiet and serene. Overall happy with dinner and service :)"

  • "The first time I went to this Shula location, the food and service were both outstanding. Having the need to be in New York again I made a reservation at the same Shula's. It was like a different restaurant. Although the food was still excellent, the service was the worst I had ever seen. When we had finished with the main course, we waited over fifteen minutes for them to clear the plates. Ten minutes later we were given desert one desert menu to share. Twelve minutes later he returned to take our desert order. We decided to get desert elsewhere and asked for our check. After waiting seven or eight minutes, we finally went to the hostess to ask her to find our bill. I will not return."

  • "Shulas steakhouse located in the Westin hotel in Midtown NYC is a great choice for a good steak. I have dined here and have also had their brunch. I have to say the dinner experience was better than brunch. Steaks are always well prepared and they have a notable list of side dishes including truffle fries and crab macaroni and cheese. Good wine list. Brunch however I did not enjoy. Ordered the eggs benedict . The english muffins were very soggy and the potatoes were rather salty and greasy. I would highly recommend for dinner but only moderately recommend their breakfast, brunch."

  • "In the middle of Times Square. Dark wood, bow-tied servers, classic steakhouse feel. Classic high steak house prices. Suprisingly the quality of the beef was low. Definitely not prime or even choice beef. No marbling, gristle throughout, grainy texture. Only made it through a few bites. Server suggested some "sauce" to make it better. I wouldn't recommend this place. I stayed in the Westin hotel attached, but will eat elsewhere next time."

  • "My husband & I enjoyed dinner this past November. We decided to visit again with our family. We dined early. We were stuck in the very back next to an extremely loud group of adults. It was horribly hot in this area yet not in the main dining area. The service has done a complete 180 since our last visit. Had to ask over and over for drink refills. Had to ask that our plates be removed 20 minutes after we had completed our first course. It wasn't that they were not rushing us they just ignored us. Maybe they did not like that we dined with our 3 extremely well behaved children. We have dined all over NYC. Shulas was disappointing and we will not return Food was decent. But the service failed. And sometime that means more than the food. "

  • "Long trip, rainy day - went to restaurant in hotel. Great place to go if you want to spend $45 for an $8 steak. Absolutely nothing special about the food. Service was just adequate - could have been worse. Waiter asked us to cut our filet mignons through the middle to see if they were cooked properly. Shouldn't they know this before bringing the food out? This tourist trap / expense account venue should take stock of itself and understand whether their diner is a tourist or a native New Yorker, there are plenty of choices in the area and might consider making the restaurant warmer, friendlier, more cost realistic and up the game for the food."
