Diner Reviews
  • "We've dined at Shula's Steakhouse in the WDW Dolphin in Orlando about 10 times in the past several years. We love it, and when we discovered that there was a Steakhouse in Manhattan we were so excited! To have one of those Shula's fillets...and the fantastic service...we could hardly wait! But, we were so disappointed. Yes, the fillets were good. But my rare was closer to medium rare, and my husband's medium rare was closer to medium. The mashed potatos were dry and the red wine demi-glace tasted more like a brown gravy from a diner. The server's never told us about any specials, nor did they describe any of the menu items, which is standard practice at the Dolphin. And, they were resetting the dining room for breakfast while we were eating"

  • "We opted for the three-course prix fixe pre-theater dinner. Great food at a very reasonable price. Nice quiet ambiance, service was impeccable."

  • "The food was really not good. How do they get away with it with a straight face?"

  • "Service is warm and inviting. We had the filet mignon with their creamed spinach, roasted corn with applewood bacon and grilled asparagus. The steaks were cooked perfectly and appropriately seasoned. The veggies were so good, we took home the extra spinach and corn and ate them as snacks later with chips. We enjoyed their crème brule trio -- absolutely yummy! The prices are typical for NY and the portions were good for 2. I would not pay so much for dinner on regular basis but as a special treat, it was worth it. We went during an "off" time so it was quiet and serene. Overall happy with dinner and service :)"

  • "I had the 24oz Porterhouse Steak and it was outstanding. If your looking for great steak go here. It might hurt you wallet but the steak was the size of the plate!"

  • "The first time I went to this Shula location, the food and service were both outstanding. Having the need to be in New York again I made a reservation at the same Shula's. It was like a different restaurant. Although the food was still excellent, the service was the worst I had ever seen. When we had finished with the main course, we waited over fifteen minutes for them to clear the plates. Ten minutes later we were given desert one desert menu to share. Twelve minutes later he returned to take our desert order. We decided to get desert elsewhere and asked for our check. After waiting seven or eight minutes, we finally went to the hostess to ask her to find our bill. I will not return."

  • "Shulas steakhouse located in the Westin hotel in Midtown NYC is a great choice for a good steak. I have dined here and have also had their brunch. I have to say the dinner experience was better than brunch. Steaks are always well prepared and they have a notable list of side dishes including truffle fries and crab macaroni and cheese. Good wine list. Brunch however I did not enjoy. Ordered the eggs benedict . The english muffins were very soggy and the potatoes were rather salty and greasy. I would highly recommend for dinner but only moderately recommend their breakfast, brunch."

  • "My husband and I like Shula's restaurants. When we found put there was a location just a block from the the show we were seeing it was the perfect choice. The service was exceptional."

  • "In the middle of Times Square. Dark wood, bow-tied servers, classic steakhouse feel. Classic high steak house prices. Suprisingly the quality of the beef was low. Definitely not prime or even choice beef. No marbling, gristle throughout, grainy texture. Only made it through a few bites. Server suggested some "sauce" to make it better. I wouldn't recommend this place. I stayed in the Westin hotel attached, but will eat elsewhere next time."

  • "While the menu is pricey, the food is outstanding. Steaks are to perfection and the side dishes were outstanding (au gratin potatoes especially) and the portions are just right."

  • "My husband & I enjoyed dinner this past November. We decided to visit again with our family. We dined early. We were stuck in the very back next to an extremely loud group of adults. It was horribly hot in this area yet not in the main dining area. The service has done a complete 180 since our last visit. Had to ask over and over for drink refills. Had to ask that our plates be removed 20 minutes after we had completed our first course. It wasn't that they were not rushing us they just ignored us. Maybe they did not like that we dined with our 3 extremely well behaved children. We have dined all over NYC. Shulas was disappointing and we will not return Food was decent. But the service failed. And sometime that means more than the food. "

  • "Long trip, rainy day - went to restaurant in hotel. Great place to go if you want to spend $45 for an $8 steak. Absolutely nothing special about the food. Service was just adequate - could have been worse. Waiter asked us to cut our filet mignons through the middle to see if they were cooked properly. Shouldn't they know this before bringing the food out? This tourist trap / expense account venue should take stock of itself and understand whether their diner is a tourist or a native New Yorker, there are plenty of choices in the area and might consider making the restaurant warmer, friendlier, more cost realistic and up the game for the food."

  • "Shula's Steak House is terrific for dinner anytime, but shines as a "civilized" pre-theater dining option. Within a manly club-like and quiet dining room, Shula’s serves great steaks and fresh fish prepared "As You Like It"-- grilled, Cajun, etc. (try the grilled sea bass with the pineapple mango salsa). Shula’s also offers an adequate selection of delightful wines and well-crafted cocktails."

  • "I have been to Shula's in NYC and in Fort Lauderdale. Although the atmosphere and dinning rooms are quite different ,I have never been disappointed. Steaks and seafood are great. Lunch and brunch also outstanding. I have been to these establishments with friends but mostly with family for special occasions. My wife and daughter totally agree."

  • "We got there at 10 after the theater; they take reservations until 10:30, so we were surprised to see them setting up for breakfast already. The place was nearly empty, but they seated us between a party of 6 Germans having a good time, and a party of 4 Americans, when there were plenty of tables that would have been more private. Service was not immediate (why does this happen in empty restaurants?), the food was disappointing (avoid the ribeye, tasteless and stringy) and the prices were, well, at the higher end of New York steakhouses. The windowless room with a rather low ceiling was not cheerful. Altogether, you can do a lot better at the Palm or Bobby Van's or Ruth's Chris. Shula's is not awful, just disappointing. "

  • "Shula's is within The Westin New York at Times Square and includes the restaurant itself, Shula's Bar 10, and Shula's No Name Bar (attached to the restaurant). Drinks at Shula's No Name Bar were excellent as was the food, service and wine selection at dinner at Shula's Steakhouse. Breakfast service and offerings at Shula's were very good. Each time we returned to Shula's we were made to feel very welcome."

  • "We went for a light after theatre dinner. Everything we ordered came out hot and ready. The French onion soup was not salty, and loaded with cheese. The tenderloin steak tips were an appetizer, but enough for a dinner with a side of sautéed mushrooms. Tender and delicious. My vegan wife had a large baked potato and sautéed greens. We both had delicious martinis too. They have it down to a science here. The waiters were professional and friendly, everything you want when out for dinner. All in all, you can make a meal out of appetizers and not have a huge and expensive steak. In fact I brought half of my steak tips home! "

  • "I have eaten at Shula's in other cities. This one did not disappoint. Wonderful wait staff, wonderful food, great atmosphere and just an all around fantastic dining experience. If you're in NYC and you're looking for a quiet, upscale dinner, you won't go wrong with Shula's."

  • "The night I dined at Shula's was so terribly cold outside that I changed my reservation from a restaurant in the meatpacking district, to a place closer to the bus terminal. I commute daily by bus. The service was very good. To be honest steak houses are a dime a dozen in NYC. How surprised was I when my steak arrived and it was excellent. My friend had lobster tails which melted in your mouth. The asparagus was fresh and cooked just right. Staff was also very friendly. A hidden gem in the Times Square/Hells Kitchen area of NYC. Will definitely dine at Shula's again."

  • "I am a fan of the Shula's in Florida and this was my first visit to the NY location. This is the best of the bunch. Everything was perfect from the quality of the meat to the preparation of the sides. Great for pre-theater dinner."

  • "From the start, the entrance from the street left me a little confused since it lead to an open seating area next to the hotel's desk. No one addressed me and I had to ask where the restaurant was. Leaving the elevator, was more of the same since there was no one at the bar to direct me to the hostess stand. It felt like I was walking in before they were even open. Once seated, the level of attention didn't change until a couple servers passed me by. I noticed a water glass with water stains and I had a dirty salad fork. Once that was addressed, I had salty fries and steak. Not what I was expecting from this restaurant but they may have been off since there was only one other table there and they hadn't found their "groove" yet for the day."

  • "First of all, Shula's is located inside of the Westin Hotel. Looking all around for the restaurant, and finally asked the porter outside the hotel....sure enough "you are there, you just don't know it" ! :-) Our food arrived perfectly prepared (medium rare), however after just a few bites, realized that it was 'good' but only 'luke warm'. We mentioned it to our waiter, and without hesitation, it was removed and returned piping hot, and not dried out as we had feared with reheating. The ambiance was relaxing and elegant......until the group of 25 arrived, when the room became loud and raucous. Luckily, we were just leaving !"

  • "Had dinner for four at Shula's Steakhouse in the Westin Hotel on a Wednesday night. We dined during NYC Restaurant Week (price fixed menus) and were pleasantly surprised. We were seated promptly and asked for drink orders from our server while being given warm bread to start. We kept it simple with chef's salads which were good portions and an order of blackened scampi which was very good (I would have liked two or three pieces but the one piece sufficed). Our entree's were nice sized sirlon's (two 8oz steaks and one 16oz for an additional $15) and breast of chicken. We were running late for our 8pm theater reservation and were given our desserts "to go". The regularly prices items were expensive so be aware."
