Best Restaurants in Birmingham
Simply put, there is no better
steak in Birmingham than Shula's. Yes, you can get steak elsewhere, but when you say "Shula's" it's a different level of steak, a different level of service, and a different level of expectation. The service is knowledgeable about the food and preparation, the wine list is inclusive, and the ambiance is quiet and reserved. Expect to pay for the best and invest in a memory for life."

My wife and I celebrated 9 years
this Wednesday. We went to Shulas and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Jason was our waiter and he took the time to explain the cuts of meat to us and answered all out questions. I had the filet and my wife had the lamb, which were both cooked to our specifications. Certainly will be going back and the price was reasonable. FYI the sides are HUGE so only order one. You'll thank me later!"

Every time we are in or near
Birmingham, we head to Shula's. Their bone-in filet is the best I've ever had, and they are very hard to find! They also have an amazing selection of wine! Guaranteed to be one of the best dining experiences you'll ever have. Great for any special occasion, especially a romantic dinner. Best steak house, with the best service in the South!"

Celebrated our 12th anniversary
here. Service was amazing! Loved the quiet atmosphere with music playing soft and low in the background. Very romantic. With our reservation we were seated immediately. Loaded baked potato was excellent, steak cooked perfect and very tender. Would have liked a sauce for my steak. Our bill with tip was 147.00. We did not order wine or salad. We wanted a dessert but there were no tree but free options. That is typical though for most restaurants. Their waiters were the best in Alabama!"

Have been going to Shula's for
several years. Service & food are always first class."

Was blown away by the great
service, excellent food and overall dinner. Called out the Chef to thank him for a great meal, as well! Thank you!!"

First time to dine at Shula's.
Atmosphere is nice. Food was ok, but not worth the cost. Service was average. The salads were good, wedge and house salad ordered. Cowboy cut and filet were cooked as ordered, but we've had better steaks as far as flavor. Crab mac and cheese was our favorite side. Would not recommend potato gratin, as it was dry and mushy. Apple cobbler was great. We were offered complimentary dessert for our anniversary, but they charged us anyway."

As always, we enjoyed our evening
at Shulas. The food is delicious - how can anyone cook the steak better. We celebrated my birthday and have now for 3 years, plus some special dining there along the way. It is extravagant for us as we don't use an expense account and are retired. We enjoy the booths and with my husband a sports enthusiast, he loves the ambiance as do iI."

The steaks were great and so was
everything else foodwise. However, my wife and I were seated at 7:30pm but did not get our entrees until 9:20. The waitress was very courteous and apologized for the delay. She even comped my steak and 2 desserts. It was a Wed night and restaurant didn't seem too crowded. I just assumed going to Shula's guaranteed promptness and close attention to diners. "

The salad was a little
over-dressed but the steaks and side dishes were very good. We ordered the lava cake for dessert which was also good but ridiculously expensive. We had to order it 30 minutes ahead and the waiter never mentioned the price. We never would've ordered a $30 dessert had we known. We arrived a few minutes early and were made to wait until our reservation time. When we finally walked through the dining room to be seated it was nearly empty. The wait was unnecessary- and annoying. "

This was to be a special dinner
for my wife and I, our 25th anniversary. I made the reservation with some special request specifically regarding the table, wine and flowers to be ready upon my arrival at the table. I also stopped by the evening prior to my reservation to ensure the request was received and also pick out the table. After I selected the table and was assured that the table would be reserved with the wine and flowers I felt comfort knowing that our anniversary dinner would be a special night. Unfortunately upon my arrival we were seated at a booth that could have sat 8 guest and NO WINE, NO FLOWERS but of course a Football on a tee was the center piece, hardly a romantic moment. A very special evening spoiled by Shula's."

Average food for the price. I've
had better steak, sides, and dessert elsewhere in Bhm. "

Restaurant was CLOSED! On
Mother's Day! Why was my reservation accepted on Open Table if the restaurant was going to be closed?"
Dined on 5/11/2014
Impeccable staff, extremely
knowledgeable on steak cuts, preparation and wine choice. Steaks were one of a kind, tender and full of flavor."

The food was very good and service
was great. It is a little pricy but good place for special occasions."

Took my parents out to dinner at
Shula's. None of us had ever been. It was a great dining experience and the food was exceptional. Have already recommended it to friends and family. I would definitely come back and eat here again."

The food and service were
awesome!! It is a little pricey but ok for special events."

I brought my client here for a
nice dinner after a day of air travel. This restaurant is located in the lobby of the Hyatt Hotel was decorated nicely, but I was a bit surprised about the dimly lit room. We had a trio of great servers, led by Lionel. We started with a wedge salad and creamed spinach and enjoyed a nice filet (after receiving a personal review of the steak cuts) and crab cakes for our entrees. The whole time we dined the wait staff was very attentive and checked with us several times to make sure that we were pleased with our selections and service, which we were. We finished our dinner with a freshly prepared apple cobbler and vanilla ice cream. We enjoyed our dining experience at Shula's and would certainly return."

My first dining experience and it
was awesome...Started the night with the bbq shrimp(HUGE) and blackened tenderloin tips as an appetizer...accompanied with the fresh baked bread we almost got full right then. I initially ordered the prime rib but was told it was sold out (it was only 8pm) so i iopted for the 8oz filet, my date had the cowboy ribeye...both ordered medium and cooked to perfection! it was like butter when cutting . The sides were the crab mac and cheese, twice baked potato and green beans...the sides are large enough to share. The mac and cheese was the best in my opinion. From beginning to end the service, food, atmosphere was perfect. Cant wait to dine again."

Love the food but especially the
presentation of the food. Presentation is Key!!"

Third time at Shula's and this
experience was just as great as the first. Great food and great service."

I loved the atmosphere the food
the dessert, just everything! The service was great and I recommend Shula's for a great night out ."

The service and food was
outstanding. This was a special occasion celebrating my wife's birthday and all went well."

Access to Shula's was easier than
expected since there is a parking deck and you enter through the Wynfrey. The entrance to Shula's was right in front of us when we came out of the parking deck. They validated our parking. The only complaint, so to speak, was my fiancé's steak was cooked medium well when he ordered medium. They did offer to recook it, but he said it was fine. They also brought one of the wrong sides-grilled asparagus when we ordered mushrooms-but they readily corrected it and left the asparagus for us to have as well. I had a complimentary birthday coupon and they handled that with no issues."
Dined on 3/8/2014
We have eaten here many, many
times and it's always been fabulous! The food on the particular night was just average. The steak was perfect! The Lava Cake was perfect!! But the appetizer and side dishes just didn't seem up to par."
Dined on 3/7/2014
Birthday celebration was terrible.
$200.00 for 2 people and the steak was terrible. Ribeye was like a poor sirloin. Aged beef? The Mac and Cheese was great, but everything was buffet value for an extreme price. If I was Shula I would not want my name on it."
Dined on 2/22/2014
Food was really good except our
steak was well done instead of medium. We enjoyed the tomato/mozzarella salad although we were expecting a caprese-like salad. Instead, it was prepared as a true salad, more arugula than tomato and Mozzarella. Would suggest getting the dressing on the side if you don't like a sweeter balsamic vinegar. The sides were large and perfectly prepared. We ordered grilled asparagus and baked potatoes. Some of our party had the chicken, which was also very good. While the food was good, the service is the reason you remember the restaurant. The maitre'd and all of the servers were friendly and personable. Overall, a very enjoyable evening."
Dined on 2/17/2014
The background music , the dim
lights and overall quiet made for a very romantic dinner experience. The service was excellent. We had a filet and prime rib for dinner with baked potato and salad. They were good quality but don't feel like they were worth the prices. Overall we had a very nice experience."
Dined on 2/16/2014
I was very pleased with this
dining experience. My fiance and I attended Shula's Steak House in Birmingham for her birthday. It was truly a night to remember. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was perfect for a romantic evening with your significant other. She was delighted with the food, wine and staff. I would highly recommend this restaurant for special occasions and true "fine" dining."
Dined on 2/9/2014
Great food and service but it
should be for the cost. Not complaining just stating a fact. I have eaten here on a number of occasion but my husband had not. He was extremely pleased with everything as he was raised in South Florida and is a big dolphins fan. He very much enjoyed the Dolphins memorabilia and was impressed with the food and level of service we experienced. We will be going back for Valentines, birthdays & anniversaries in the future."

The food is always good here. The
service is always quick and we never have to ask for anything!. The Filet was outstanding!! One of my favorite is the molten chocolate cake......wow!!"

Nothing special... Except the calamari straws.. They were great"

I took my wife to Shula's for her
birthday. The table had.a plaque wishing her a Happy Birthday and they provided her a dessert to celebrate the occation. The food was outstanding. We would highly recommend the crab mac & cheese. The wine list was superb and I was able to find a perfect wine for the occasion. What a terrific meal!"
Dined on 8/30/2013
Very nice restaurant. The food was
good - but not great. For the price I would not go back - there are other restaurants in that price range that to me are much better."
Dined on 8/24/2013
We ordered our steak medium well.
It was served charred on the ends and well done and dry on the insides. It did not appear to be a 22 oz. steak. The server was excellent, the mood was terrific, the vegetables and bread were delicious. We were disappointed in the steak because it was not cooked the way we ordered it. ...but we will try it again. I am sure the stak will be better next time."
Dined on 8/20/2013
The atmosphere was cold in both
senses of the word. It was freezing in there and the wait staff couldn't care less about our words to that effect. Also, the staff was not concerned that our steaks were not coooked according to our requests."
Dined on 7/20/2013
I chose Shula's for my special day
and once again I was not disappointed. From appetizer sampler to the lava cake for dessert , it was great and the service could not have been better. Thanks for a lovely evening."
Dined on 7/16/2013
We have dined at Shula's
Steakhouse in Birmingham about 4 times in the past year. We have experienced poor service 2 out of 4 of those visits. Food was very good but poor serviced overshadowed the visit. Sunday (Father's Day), we made reservations for lunch and arrived early. There was one waiter who was doubling as a bartender and 2 servers who exhibited lazy and indifferent behavior. Only 5 tables total were occupied during our visit. Service was extremely slow. After our food order, we waited over 15 minutes for my husband's wedge salad and had to ask for it since our waiter didn't notice that the server had not brought it when telling us entrees were almost ready. A glass of wine ordered was never received or noticed.."
