A word from Shuckers
Boasting the beautifully carved oak paneling and unique tin ceiling of the haberdashery it once was in the 1930's, Shuckers is one of Seattle's oldest and most pre-eminent oyster bars. With a daily menu featuring a selection of fresh fish and seafood, Shuckers brims with 13 different kinds of oysters prepared nine different ways and features local artisan microbrews.

The Zagat 2005 Restaurant Survey coins Shuckers as a 'Seattle classic' that is one of the 'best seafood restaurants in town' with 'great ambiance' and 'excellent service.'

I called that I would be late and ordered a tray of fresh oysters. Not only were they ready to be served on arrival but I was given the happy hour price. Service throughout dinnner was superior from greeting to processing the check.

The large bar, woodwork, and semi-private booths demonstrate Shuckers commitment to the classic fine dining experience. Our waiter was friendly and helpful without being intrusive. Overall, the food was a little beneath our expectations. This had been recommended to us as one of the best seafood restaurants in Seattle, and we found several of the dishes to be average at best. The one standout dish we enjoyed was the Halibut with Crab Mac & Cheese and Tempura Asparagus; every option was delicious and cooked to perfection. I suspect that, given another visit, most of the other selections on the menu would be just as wonderful.

Being from Louisiana, I have been an oyster fanatic my entire life. I've traveled the country and NEVER seen such a variety of oysters. The mignonette sorbet was an absolute winner. Shave some off and you get plenty with every bite. Only one issue and that was that the online menu is NOT what is necessarily have that day. Even though the waiter stated it changes daily, that couldn't be the case as this was not printed on paper as do most restaurants that do this, but on a menu that can't change daily. Two items we had our heart set on when we got there were not available. I recommend the place, but don't rely on the online menu!!!

When we first arrived we were seated within a minute. However, after being seated we were not given silverware or water for at least 5 minutes. I felt a little ignored here, and it seemed very crowded and not as romantic as I previously thought. Anyways, after waiting for a while, we finally got our water and were told our waiter would be with us "momentarily". Another 5 or 6 minutes later we got our waiter. From here, the dinner was amazing!!!! Our waiter apologized for our wait and was perfect. He was there when we needed, but wasn't too overbearing. The food was spectacular. For food alone, I would give this place 5 stars! The oysters were great, and the Wild King Salmon couldn't be beat.

I have eaten many times at Shuckers over the years although this is the first time in a couple of years. The food is always excellent and the oysters on the half shell are outstanding. The "men's club" ambiance is wonderful and the service is top-notch. About 15 years ago, I ate 9 times at Shuckers within a week's time and I am happy to see it is still excellent.

We had read the mixed reviews about Shuckers and had hoped that our experience would be that of the most-positive reviews. Unfortunately, we were met with total mediocrity and high prices. I had the Daily special, which was described as prawns, but was at best "small-medium" shrimp. The flavors were okay, but nothing great. Based on our lunch experience we decided not to return for dinner later in our trip.

and enjoy great food, beautifully plated and a most varied menu. It's a great value, considering the eatery is well maintained, the service excels and the environment is simply elegant. A must-see interior - an old haberdashery displaying exquisite wood carvings - lends an air of old world. The oyster bar is one of the very best in town. Whether it's lunch, happy hour or dinner, the experience makes you want to return again and again!

This place was once a favorite of mine for lunch. It was always expensive, but it seemed like the service and quality of food was worth the price. I think they have become complacent recently. The food is no longer worth the hefty prices they charge. I ordered the halibut daily special for $32 and received a tiny piece of fish with even tinier, limp, and egregiously overcooked asparagus. It was like a garnish. The fish was cooked well but for the price I would have liked a larger portion. I won't be coming back for a while.

I love eating here for their fresh seafood, oysters and especially the Shucker's seafood chowder. It is the best chowder I have ever had. We sat outside on a lovely warm evening but our waitress was slow taking our order. She got better, but was not as polished as most of the servers at Shucker's. The blackberry/blueberry cobler is devine -- the best restaurant dessert I have ever had.

Met a couple for dinner during mid week. The Service was great. Drinks were fantastic as was our food. The restaurant has a nice feel to it if you enjoy a dark wood, old but classic feel to your experience. Not too busy mid week and right down town. It can be a bit spendy if you drink a lot!

My husband had the fish and chips which he enjoyed. I ordered the mixed grill ($42). The order came with 5 pieces of different fish. The portions were extremely small considering the price. It was served with grilled asparagus (good) and their crab cheese macaroni (I found disappointing.) So many other great restaurants in the area that I wouldn't go back to Shuckers again.

The oysters are so fresh that you'd think you just now plucked them from the sea, shucked them and popped them into your mouth. The staff is attentive and professional. The decor is the same as it has been for decades - classic and beautiful, don't ever change it! The lobster potatoes need to be updated - a staid dish. Overall, loved it!

WE continue to lunch here whenever we are in Seattle because food is fabulous, reasonable and service is simply the best. I particularly love the Duets and Trios as they are a nice size for lunch. If I am really hungry, the Chop Salad or the Shrimp or Crab Louie are great too. If you are in a group of about four, try a piece of the Chocolate cake - but you will need help, believe me!!

We were on vacation though Canada and visited Seattle first time ever. Shuckers was recommended by the Freemont hotel ...unfortunately I will NOT ever recommend this place to my family & friends. It was the worst service for such a pricey restaurant! The female server barely made any effort to wait on us. She was too busy with her party of 8? We had to ask for her several times to come back to our table. AWFUL experience and of course we mentioned it to the Manager and he offered something for the next time LOL we live in San Diego!

The waiter was a wonderful older gentleman that knew the menu well and made good suggestions. Chose this place because of its proximity to theaters, symphony hall, etc. and because it was advertised as $$, with entrees in $20 range. However, entrees were in the $30s. Salads (not included) and oysters were high-priced, and glasses of wine were $10 minimum. Total bill for two was almost $200 (2 drinks each). Food was beautifully presented and very flavorful, service was good. Just was a lot more expensive than we expected.

Evening ended up amazing! About 5 minutes before we were to walk down for dinner, I received and email from Open Table stating that the restaurant had cancelled our reservation. I called to inquire, making sure we didn't need to find an alternative for the evening and Julia answered the phone. She was extremely apologetic and said it had been cancelled in error but that our table would be ready. She even recommended I go on OT and rebook, to get my points. When we arrived we were sat a a quiet window table, and she even comp'd an appetizer. Was not necessary at all, simply mistakes occur, but was definitely welcomed. Food was amazing, service was top notch, will definitely be back soon!
