A word from Shuckers
Boasting the beautifully carved oak paneling and unique tin ceiling of the haberdashery it once was in the 1930's, Shuckers is one of Seattle's oldest and most pre-eminent oyster bars. With a daily menu featuring a selection of fresh fish and seafood, Shuckers brims with 13 different kinds of oysters prepared nine different ways and features local artisan microbrews.

The Zagat 2005 Restaurant Survey coins Shuckers as a 'Seattle classic' that is one of the 'best seafood restaurants in town' with 'great ambiance' and 'excellent service.'

Diner Reviews
  • "Overall, Shuckers was a great dining experience. The service was attentive, the menu diverse. The portions are large, and there are great options for sharing and trying multiple options with their lunch duets and trios."

  • "We took our grand daughter here Saturday for her 9th birthday. It was a great choice. Food and service wonderful as we would expect. And our server made Emma a beautiful Birthday treat."

  • "This place was once a favorite of mine for lunch. It was always expensive, but it seemed like the service and quality of food was worth the price. I think they have become complacent recently. The food is no longer worth the hefty prices they charge. I ordered the halibut daily special for $32 and received a tiny piece of fish with even tinier, limp, and egregiously overcooked asparagus. It was like a garnish. The fish was cooked well but for the price I would have liked a larger portion. I won't be coming back for a while."

  • "I love eating here for their fresh seafood, oysters and especially the Shucker's seafood chowder. It is the best chowder I have ever had. We sat outside on a lovely warm evening but our waitress was slow taking our order. She got better, but was not as polished as most of the servers at Shucker's. The blackberry/blueberry cobler is devine -- the best restaurant dessert I have ever had."

  • "Met a couple for dinner during mid week. The Service was great. Drinks were fantastic as was our food. The restaurant has a nice feel to it if you enjoy a dark wood, old but classic feel to your experience. Not too busy mid week and right down town. It can be a bit spendy if you drink a lot!"

  • "Fresh seafood is always my top choice when you live in a land locked state!...the oysters are to die for!!!...so many fantastic preparations...my husband had the scallops...big plump and perfectly pan roasted!...I had the ahi tuna...again well presented and so delicious!...we had a quiet table for two in the front window...our server was efficient and knowledgeable but never intrusive...we lingered for as long as we wanted and never felt rushed on a very busy Friday night...great night!...thank you Shuckers and open table!"

  • "My husband had the fish and chips which he enjoyed. I ordered the mixed grill ($42). The order came with 5 pieces of different fish. The portions were extremely small considering the price. It was served with grilled asparagus (good) and their crab cheese macaroni (I found disappointing.) So many other great restaurants in the area that I wouldn't go back to Shuckers again."

  • "Our waiter was great...listened to what we wanted and provided options. Good food but better service."

  • "The oysters are so fresh that you'd think you just now plucked them from the sea, shucked them and popped them into your mouth. The staff is attentive and professional. The decor is the same as it has been for decades - classic and beautiful, don't ever change it! The lobster potatoes need to be updated - a staid dish. Overall, loved it!"

  • "WE continue to lunch here whenever we are in Seattle because food is fabulous, reasonable and service is simply the best. I particularly love the Duets and Trios as they are a nice size for lunch. If I am really hungry, the Chop Salad or the Shrimp or Crab Louie are great too. If you are in a group of about four, try a piece of the Chocolate cake - but you will need help, believe me!!"

  • "Lots of oyster choices, we had 3 kinds and all were good. Seared Tuna was delicious. Caesar salad with shrimp and crab was so generous, I couldn't finish, but did my best to try. Service was kind of slow. We were too full for dessert."

  • "This was our second visit and were not disappointed! The best halibut I have ever had, the service was impeccable and the ambiance was the best! Very reasonable for what we ordered. The blueberry blackberry pie was to die for!"

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at this unique restaurant. A really different and unusual menu with the usual New Orleans dishes but many local favorites. "

  • "We were on vacation though Canada and visited Seattle first time ever. Shuckers was recommended by the Freemont hotel ...unfortunately I will NOT ever recommend this place to my family & friends. It was the worst service for such a pricey restaurant! The female server barely made any effort to wait on us. She was too busy with her party of 8? We had to ask for her several times to come back to our table. AWFUL experience and of course we mentioned it to the Manager and he offered something for the next time LOL we live in San Diego! "

  • "Had a fabulous dinner with my husband and adult son. We all ordered from the seafood entries...tuna, scallops, paella. All were prepared perfectly and were delicious. The waiter was a wonderful older gentleman that knew the menu well and made good suggestions. We were in Seattle for the weekend and the restaurant was recommended by a friend who has dined here several times. No disappointment here!"

  • "Chose this place because of its proximity to theaters, symphony hall, etc. and because it was advertised as $$, with entrees in $20 range. However, entrees were in the $30s. Salads (not included) and oysters were high-priced, and glasses of wine were $10 minimum. Total bill for two was almost $200 (2 drinks each). Food was beautifully presented and very flavorful, service was good. Just was a lot more expensive than we expected. "

  • "Not much more to say a apart from it was enjoyable, wholesome and I felt good for eating some lovely fresh fish. Nothing spectacular however. Quaint little lace and friendly staff. "

  • "If you like oysters, this is still the best place in town. Great selection, and knowledgable wait staff. And even if you don't, it's still one of the great, classic, old school Seattle restaurants to enjoy. Great service, professional waiters, great for just 2 of you, or even a night with another couple. It's even a great place to eat at the bar. "

  • "Evening ended up amazing! About 5 minutes before we were to walk down for dinner, I received and email from Open Table stating that the restaurant had cancelled our reservation. I called to inquire, making sure we didn't need to find an alternative for the evening and Julia answered the phone. She was extremely apologetic and said it had been cancelled in error but that our table would be ready. She even recommended I go on OT and rebook, to get my points. When we arrived we were sat a a quiet window table, and she even comp'd an appetizer. Was not necessary at all, simply mistakes occur, but was definitely welcomed. Food was amazing, service was top notch, will definitely be back soon!"

  • "We were late getting to the restaurant because of traffic and although you could not save us the window seat we like, you saved us a very nice booth. We enjoyed the fish and side dishes. The fish was perfectly cooked. The wine our waiter recommended was excellent and he did a nice job making our meal relaxed, but still getting us to the theatre on time. Thanks again for a great meal. "

  • "Loved the atmosphere. Had a table by the window. Jay, our waiter was funny and nice. I had the pistachio encrusted halibut($23). It came on a bed of greens with watermelon radishes and pink grapefruit. Flavors were so good together. Husband had paella and loved it. The crispy cracker bread was so good too. We shared the coffee choc chip ice cream (2scoops). A very nice experience. "

  • "I didn't have illusions that Shuckers would be inexpensive but I was somewhat disappointed in the miniscule slice of $42 wild king salmon I ordered. The waiter was good and accomodating. This might be a better place for a drink at the bar and a few oysters than a full meal--but then it is well located."

  • "I was visiting Seattle for my birthday and picked suckers for dinner. I've been to many good restaurants including hotel restaurants but I was never this pleased with perfect combination of exceptional service, beautifully done food presentation, fresh seafood and such a romantic ambience. Oysters (Olympic was my favorite) I had for appetizer was so good we wanted to get more if we arnt full enough at the end of the meal, but unfortunately didn't happen.. Staffs were friendly and especially our server Jay made my evening so enjoyable! I don't know why every other restaurants can't be perfect like Shuckers. This restaurant will be my very first dining choice when visiting Seattle again. I'm even considering staying at fairmont next time. "

  • "We loved the food at this place. The Halibut was lightly seasoned and broiled to perfection. My wife tried Halibut at two other restaurants while in Seattle and none compared to the perfection on the night we ate at Shuckers. The chocolate cake was out of this world - if you really, really like chocolate - it's a must."

  • "This is a go to wonderful restaurant we enjoy, living downtown. The seafood is always excellent and is a good choice for visitors staying downtown since it's in the lovely, old, historic Fairmont Olympic Hotel."

  • "It's in a major, high-priced downtown hotel and I've known that usually hotels are not the best option if there is reasonable local competition. My prejudice turned out to be accurate, but anyhow wife and I had an oyster jones, and decided to try it for lunch. We found the hotel setting elegant, the maitre d' gracious, and our waiter first class. Nice choice of by-the-glass wines. I started with six on the half shell, with horse radish, lemon, etc. which were excellent. My wife had a bowl of red chowder that had a canned soup undertone, and she stopped eating. I then ordered a very disappointing mess of fried oysters which were roadhouse overcooked - like a beach side joint on the Texas coast. For oysters, the Brooklin is nearby."
