A word from Shuckers
Boasting the beautifully carved oak paneling and unique tin ceiling of the haberdashery it once was in the 1930's, Shuckers is one of Seattle's oldest and most pre-eminent oyster bars. With a daily menu featuring a selection of fresh fish and seafood, Shuckers brims with 13 different kinds of oysters prepared nine different ways and features local artisan microbrews.

The Zagat 2005 Restaurant Survey coins Shuckers as a 'Seattle classic' that is one of the 'best seafood restaurants in town' with 'great ambiance' and 'excellent service.'

  • "It's in a major, high-priced downtown hotel and I've known that usually hotels are not the best option if there is reasonable local competition. My prejudice turned out to be accurate, but anyhow wife and I had an oyster jones, and decided to try it for lunch. We found the hotel setting elegant, the maitre d' gracious, and our waiter first class. Nice choice of by-the-glass wines. I started with six on the half shell, with horse radish, lemon, etc. which were excellent. My wife had a bowl of red chowder that had a canned soup undertone, and she stopped eating. I then ordered a very disappointing mess of fried oysters which were roadhouse overcooked - like a beach side joint on the Texas coast. For oysters, the Brooklin is nearby."

  • "I recently visited Shuckers for a solo lunch to "audition" the restaurant. My friend and I went to the same restaurant every year for our birthdays and at Christmas time, but this location is now closed. :( I wanted to find a restaurant close-by our offices that would be a good place to celebrate these occasions. I had been to Shuckers once (in 2003), but I remembered that the food was good, and, since it was still around in 2014, I didn't think that had changed. Also, the atmosphere was good, not too noisy! We will likely be continuing our tradition at Shuckers starting this Christmas."

  • "We drive from Lake Tapps, WA to Seattle to enjoy fantastic food and lovely service @ Shucker's a couple times a year. We laugh, because nearby tables probably cannot believe we order almost one of everything to experience goodness. The oysters are presented clean and delicious. We share the crab mac & cheese, trout and steelhead and the Valentine desserts of chocolate cake, vanilla ice cream and blueberry and blackberry pie with sour cream ice cream. There is a martini that we enjoy at Christmas "Spring in Paris" that is out of this world, their beer is ice cold, the red wine is a good selection. The service is wonderful and has been there many years, we enjoy seeing their faces each visit. Thank You Shucker's!!!"

  • "I had made reservations to have dinner with a guest from out of town. We were really looking forward to this. He got tuna, which he said was good. I ordered a crab cocktail & pasta. They forgot my crab cocktail, so I just had pasta which was not impressive. It had an odd burnt cheese crisp on the top. For the price, I wouldn't want to go here again. Especially not with a special guest from out of town."

  • "My husband and I had dinner on a Tuesday night. We had reservations but got there an hour early and were immediately seated. We had a friendly, knowledgeable waitress who spent time with us, answering questions, making suggestions, and just chatting. She added greatly to our experience. The food was terrific. My husband really enjoyed the scallops and I had Ahi tuna with quinoa. Delicious! We had been to Schuckers before and wanted to go again. I am really glad we did."

Perhaps you should tweak the template to make it applicable for this restaurant - kind of useless if you don't."

  • "I have been to Shuckers before and food was amazing once again.... I was surprised that our service was poor. Our waiter wasn't very attentive. It felt like we had to flag him down... It was New Years eve, and the place was packed as usual but not chaotic. We were just disappointed because we were there in Seattle for a night on the town, for New Years eve we stayed at The Fairmont for a romantic evening and wanted a romantic dinner. The food was amazing, just our service was poor that evening..."

  • "Fried chicken was very salty (son had to pick around the chicken) as was the quinoa (daughter did not eat it) that was served with the tuna. Brought it to the attention of a hostess picking up our plates and she said she would tell the kitchen. Nothing happened thereafter. I was given three hundred dollars in gift cards to spend here by our company and found it to be less then good. Service was slow for as small as the place was. Will not be back."

I made the reservation prior to heading for Seattle from Oregon - I've eaten there before and LOVED it. I love the old dark wood, the history of the place reminds me of the wonderful finds in cities like Washington DC. The trip to Seattle ended being after my hubby pulled a rare all nighter due to an emergency at work - we drove up, of course got caught in traffic - arrived at our hotel, walked across the street and were swept away into a relaxed atmosphere where we enjoyed a steak (him) and and wonderul Crab Louis (me) and of course a couple glasses of wine :-) Thanks for helping to bring a long day to a great closure ...."
