A word from Shuckers
Boasting the beautifully carved oak paneling and unique tin ceiling of the haberdashery it once was in the 1930's, Shuckers is one of Seattle's oldest and most pre-eminent oyster bars. With a daily menu featuring a selection of fresh fish and seafood, Shuckers brims with 13 different kinds of oysters prepared nine different ways and features local artisan microbrews.

The Zagat 2005 Restaurant Survey coins Shuckers as a 'Seattle classic' that is one of the 'best seafood restaurants in town' with 'great ambiance' and 'excellent service.'

Diner Reviews
  • "Perfect as always - must not miss if you are in Seattle "

  • "I was visiting Seattle for my birthday and picked suckers for dinner. I've been to many good restaurants including hotel restaurants but I was never this pleased with perfect combination of exceptional service, beautifully done food presentation, fresh seafood and such a romantic ambience. Oysters (Olympic was my favorite) I had for appetizer was so good we wanted to get more if we arnt full enough at the end of the meal, but unfortunately didn't happen.. Staffs were friendly and especially our server Jay made my evening so enjoyable! I don't know why every other restaurants can't be perfect like Shuckers. This restaurant will be my very first dining choice when visiting Seattle again. I'm even considering staying at fairmont next time. "

  • "We loved the food at this place. The Halibut was lightly seasoned and broiled to perfection. My wife tried Halibut at two other restaurants while in Seattle and none compared to the perfection on the night we ate at Shuckers. The chocolate cake was out of this world - if you really, really like chocolate - it's a must."

  • "Best fish in town. Perfect. Not trendy. Classy and delicious. Wonderful dining experience. Nothing precious or silly. Just great"

  • "Old school restaurant downtown, great food and service with an nice old yacht interior feel. Our waiter Steve was really nice and knowledgeable."

  • "We chose Shuckers for a moderately priced VIP dinner. The food was so mediocre we were actually embarrassed. Never again."

  • "Visited the restaurant while in Seattle on business. Co-worker said it was one of the 2 best meals he had ever had at a restaurant. Truly outstanding food and wonderful service."

  • "We were celebrating our 21st anniversary, we showed up hours before our reservation and they were so gracious to accommodate us. The food was fantastic, our waiter was attentive but not over bearing. We can't wait to return to Seattle and visit Shuckers."

  • "One of the best dining experiences we've had in a while. Wonderful wine list, and the Scallops are a must!!"
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "This is a go to wonderful restaurant we enjoy, living downtown. The seafood is always excellent and is a good choice for visitors staying downtown since it's in the lovely, old, historic Fairmont Olympic Hotel."

  • "It's in a major, high-priced downtown hotel and I've known that usually hotels are not the best option if there is reasonable local competition. My prejudice turned out to be accurate, but anyhow wife and I had an oyster jones, and decided to try it for lunch. We found the hotel setting elegant, the maitre d' gracious, and our waiter first class. Nice choice of by-the-glass wines. I started with six on the half shell, with horse radish, lemon, etc. which were excellent. My wife had a bowl of red chowder that had a canned soup undertone, and she stopped eating. I then ordered a very disappointing mess of fried oysters which were roadhouse overcooked - like a beach side joint on the Texas coast. For oysters, the Brooklin is nearby."

  • "Amazing array of correctly cooked seafood.stunning oyster selections."
    Dined on 3/17/2014
  • "Although definitely upscale, has a neighborhood feel with a varied mix of people. Try the seafood chowder (cup or bowl). It was amazing. Don't order the chocolate cake unless you are really, really hungry. It's huge."

  • "After a busy day sight-seeing with my elderly parents, we enjoyed a delicious meal at Shuckers! Wait staff was very attentive, but not in a bothersome way. Food was great. Love the spinach salad!"

  • "I recently visited Shuckers for a solo lunch to "audition" the restaurant. My friend and I went to the same restaurant every year for our birthdays and at Christmas time, but this location is now closed. :( I wanted to find a restaurant close-by our offices that would be a good place to celebrate these occasions. I had been to Shuckers once (in 2003), but I remembered that the food was good, and, since it was still around in 2014, I didn't think that had changed. Also, the atmosphere was good, not too noisy! We will likely be continuing our tradition at Shuckers starting this Christmas."

  • "Seattle? The Fairmont? Hand in glove. Complimenting both is Shuckers, whenever our travel plans include Seattle this is where we stay and @ least one night's dinner is @ Shuckers. Cannot go wrong, the menu provides for anyone's taste."

  • "We drive from Lake Tapps, WA to Seattle to enjoy fantastic food and lovely service @ Shucker's a couple times a year. We laugh, because nearby tables probably cannot believe we order almost one of everything to experience goodness. The oysters are presented clean and delicious. We share the crab mac & cheese, trout and steelhead and the Valentine desserts of chocolate cake, vanilla ice cream and blueberry and blackberry pie with sour cream ice cream. There is a martini that we enjoy at Christmas "Spring in Paris" that is out of this world, their beer is ice cold, the red wine is a good selection. The service is wonderful and has been there many years, we enjoy seeing their faces each visit. Thank You Shucker's!!!"

  • "Everything was delicious. Our waiter was knowledgable on all aspects of the menu, especially the oysters. We had a dozen on the half shell and a half dozen Rockefeller. The presentation was just right and the oysters were perfect."

  • "I had made reservations to have dinner with a guest from out of town. We were really looking forward to this. He got tuna, which he said was good. I ordered a crab cocktail & pasta. They forgot my crab cocktail, so I just had pasta which was not impressive. It had an odd burnt cheese crisp on the top. For the price, I wouldn't want to go here again. Especially not with a special guest from out of town."

  • "My husband and I had dinner on a Tuesday night. We had reservations but got there an hour early and were immediately seated. We had a friendly, knowledgeable waitress who spent time with us, answering questions, making suggestions, and just chatting. She added greatly to our experience. The food was terrific. My husband really enjoyed the scallops and I had Ahi tuna with quinoa. Delicious! We had been to Schuckers before and wanted to go again. I am really glad we did."

  • "Shuckers is an incredible experience. Great food, even better service, tucked away at the base of the Fairmont Olympic Hotel on University and 5th. Great to couple this with a pre-event meal at the 5th Avenue Theater. The BEST."

  • "We ate outstanding oysters on the half shell and baked plus wonderful mussels while watching the NFC championship. The shellfish were exceptionally fresh and delicious. Service was gracious and prompt. We had not been to Shuckers is some years as we are not locals. It was a wonderful return; I would be very happy to be regulars."

  • "When I think of Shuckers, I think of great seafood. In my opinion, the broadest and best seafood menu in Seattle. The problem is it is almost too intimate, with some tables literally on top of each other. The price point is also a bit steep, but if you want a broad array of seafood, high quality food and service and dont mind a lack of privacy, this is definitely the place to go in Seattle"

  • "There is a reason this restaurant has not changed its format or name since opening with the Four Seasons some 32 years ago...it's just consistently great!"

  • "My wife and I always go at least once to Schuckers everytime we come to Seattle. We love the atmosphere. The food never disappoints and we have gone there many times. The highlight for us are the fresh oysters and we make sure to get them everytime we come. I highly recommend it, you will not be disappointed!"

  • "I have always been a fan of Shuckers since the mid 1980s. This time as usual the food was wonderful, service spectacular and had a thoroughly fabulaous dining experience. I have alway recommended Shuckers as THE seafood restaurant in Seattle sinc e the Four Season's days. PS Q2 above doesn't really fit Shuckers. Perhaps you should tweak the template to make it applicable for this restaurant - kind of useless if you don't."

  • "Food was very good all though the scallops were too salty. The ahi tuna was fantastic. Service provided by Jay was outstanding."
    Dined on 12/25/2013
  • "I have been to Shuckers before and food was amazing once again.... I was surprised that our service was poor. Our waiter wasn't very attentive. It felt like we had to flag him down... It was New Years eve, and the place was packed as usual but not chaotic. We were just disappointed because we were there in Seattle for a night on the town, for New Years eve we stayed at The Fairmont for a romantic evening and wanted a romantic dinner. The food was amazing, just our service was poor that evening..."

  • "Fried chicken was very salty (son had to pick around the chicken) as was the quinoa (daughter did not eat it) that was served with the tuna. Brought it to the attention of a hostess picking up our plates and she said she would tell the kitchen. Nothing happened thereafter. I was given three hundred dollars in gift cards to spend here by our company and found it to be less then good. Service was slow for as small as the place was. Will not be back."
