Diner Reviews
  • "Showcase is the Marriott's restaurant, which had recently undergone a major renovation, and the restaurant is quite impressive sporting modern glass, wood, and soaring ceiling with an similar bar area. Unfortunately, the ambiance was spoiled by the presence of several TVs above the back of the bar facing the dining area. The menu had several Indian style dishes [curries, lamb popsicles] and the wine list is unusual in that it offers wines by the glass in 3 different sizes [3, 6, and 9 oz pours] with a fair number available. Service was friendly and fairly prompt. If you're staying at the hotel, or nearby, and not feeling like going out, there's nothing terrible about the place but it's definitely not a foodie's find."

  • "I had lunch there and had a good time although my server (Dwayne his name is, I believe) was a bit on the weird side, calling me "love" or "sweetie", very inappropriate. Also, although I specified that I could not eat peppers or regular pepper, my dish came full of... peppers and pepper! So I sent it back to the kitchen and chose a plain grilled halibut which was good but again, had pepper on it and it was way overcooked. Loved it when the (same) server asked me if I wished to have some ground pepper. He is definitely a lost case... The home made ice creams were delicious. But at $39 for lunch, one could expect a better meal and service."

  • "The food selection was varied and ranged from burgers and sandwiches to more "foodie" items such as curried ling cod. I asked for it to be spicy and they did a wonderful job adapting to my request."

  • "We went as a group from out of town. Location was conveniently near the convention center. The place had a great sports bar, but it was not intrusive for diners. We felt we had great opportunity to talk, and there was not too much noise. Portions were generous and delicious. "

  • "The service is very good, the waitress is very friendly, the food is very delicious. The restaurant is right beside the street, so no view at all. I guess that's the only drawback, but not every restaurant has view, at least this one has a good setting inside, very modern look and nice bar in the centre. Another amazing feature is every granite or stone table is heated, so you don't feel ice cold when you are eating on it in the winter time. "

  • "Our server was very attentive and friendly. The food was all delicious. Loved having a mini dessert option."

  • "Visited ShowCase with a Groupon in hand. For $39 one appy/two entrees/two mini desserts. We shared the Korean lettuce wraps which were very tasty, not too salty, and big enough to put a dent into both our appetites. For entrees we had the steak frites and salmon. Both were cooked perfectly and we ended up taking most of the steak home. For dessert we had the yuzu lemon tart and creme brulee. These desserts were not mini in our opinion. True they weren't American sized, but it was the perfect portion to end our satisfying meal. Throw in a couple of caesars and it was a great meal for a great deal! The restaurant itself isn't anything special but nice enough for a romantic evening, and casual enough for kids."

  • "This is a restaurant that looks out on sidewalk and city view. We are people watchers so we enjoyed it. The service was very good and our dinner server told us about the Olympic flame which we could see the reflection of from our table. It was burning because of the Paralympics. It was night and very cool to see. We took a walk-short walk of one or two blocks- to get pictures. The food was good but price was a little high. My husband's cod was a little greasy-soggy. The portions were generous and we really enjoyed our scrambled egg breakfast the next day. Overall we enjoyed it and would go back or recommend it."

  • "I dined at Showcase before its recent makeover and I can honestly say I am relieved that the quality of experience has not changed. The steaks are fantastic, it's our main go-to when we go visit. On our recent visit, we had a lovely waitress who was thoughtful and overall very pleasant. Definitely a repeat diner at this restaurant!"

  • "Well, the server and mood of the place was good. Was excited to try the menu. Sadly the food was either over cooked or under. Lack of detail for the food and taste was average."

  • "At Showcase, we were greeted energetically by the host. I found it a bit odd though that the host's table was in the middle of the restaurant, so we never saw it right when we walked in. Anyways, before coming to the restaurant, we bought a Groupon deal. We were told upon buying that we had to make a reservation. I tried to make one by phone, but they said they were full. I made one on OpenTable and it was accepted. I then phoned and the same lady said she saw the reservation. Overall, the two flatbreads we had were mouthwatering (goat cheese and smoked salmon) and our meals were all very tasty. The mini deserts were also a hit at just $4 each! the server even gave us on extra so we could try them all!"

  • "We came to Showcase on a Groupon deal. From our experience, we would come back for the excellent service and good food even without a coupon discount. The prices were reasonable given the restaurant location and level of service -- particularly with the restaurant being connected to the Marriott Hotel. Service was super quick and efficient. Both our server and the kitchen staff seem to be right on top of our pace. We were transitioned from appetizers to main course to dessert with minimal wait in between. Our server was particularly attentive as she constantly checked on us from a distance but without interrupting us. We highly recommend Showcase to anyone downtown or staying at the Marriott Hotel."

  • "Excellent, especially for a hotel restaurant. Very good food and excellent service (kudos to Hector). One fish entree was a bit overlooked, but otherwise excellent."

  • "I had never been to Showcase and was looking for a place for a good Valentine's Day dinner with my wife. Although, I had recommendations from co-workers, I went with some trepidation as hotel restaurants can be very hit-and-miss. I was very happy with the overall experience and especially impressed by the food! Our server was bubbly and helpful, and the chef was most accommodating as we switched up a couple of things on the menu. He even came out to speak with us and get our comments. The music was the right volume, and the place had a good vibe to it. Our reservation was for 7 PM, and even as we left at 8:30, the place was still hopping. A big thumbs up!"

  • "Hotel restaurants are not always know for good or fair prices but Showcase seems to be the exception: All the basic things you want for a group lunch were done well - There were 5 of us for lunch - we were seated promptly - orders taken quickly but we did not feel rushed. - everyone's meal was served at the same time. - great menu selection that satisfied everyone's palate (including the vegetarian in our group) - fair prices (similar to Cactus Club) I love a good salad for lunch. Showcase had a great selection with the option to add steak, chicken or salmon to your salad. Recent renovations have removed the primary colour palate that was previously there. In its place is a more calming westcoast vibe. Highly recommend!"

  • "Food was good and portion size was good but service was slow after our Entres. Server was slow to come back to ask about our dessert selections and when our party wasn't given own own individual plates when we were sharing our desserts. We had to request for extra plates. In addition, we were asked whether we wanted coffee or tea with our desserts."

  • "First time to Showcase Restaurant and so glad we did go during DOV. What a fantastic experience. Great food offered during DOV and for only $28 for the 3 course meal! Sablefish and beef tenderloin/short rib entrees are not to be missed! The kitchen did an outstanding job on these two dishes and I've been to many many restaurants that could not even come close to matching the culinery experience we had that night. Winner overall!"

  • "Food was not bad except for desert . Wine selection was very limited .Our waitress was either very green or she was treating this restaurant like a diner. She fail all aspect of being a waitress in a hotel restaurant . Ambience is not great at all. Long tables were line side by side . There are no privacy between tables. There are definitely room for privacy. The service and experience is comparable to my experience in white spot . If not worst ."

  • "Came for dineout with family and friends. Service was pretty good, our server was cheerful and attentive. As for the food, I was quite surprised as the flavours balanced nicely, not too rich or over seasoned. Everyone else agreed that the food was quite delicious. I would come here again to try out the regular menu."

Hostess not that friendly waiter was forgetful and made few odd comments. Calling me boss when I asked for water three times since he forgot."

  • "We booked at this restaurant in the Marriott hotel because of the convenience of the location (we had an evening event at the Marriott) and were very pleased we did. The atmosphere was warm and tranquil, the service was attentive but discrete and the food was excellent. The chicken lettuce wraps were perfectly spicy, the sablefish was delicate and flavourful, the curries were good. I would go back."
