Diner Reviews
  • "Food and service were great. Server was knowledgable and made nice efforts for guest celebrating her birthday. Really enjoyed the pad Thai, seared scallop roll, Thai donuts, and cobbler dessert, to name a few. I had no complaints, and would definitely return again."

  • "Went here on a whim- looking for sushi near my Biscayne bay hotel and though I had left Miami many years ago I had no expectations for the Design district. To my surprise I ended up having one of the best, freshest sushi in a long time- not to mention that the place is very nicely decorated, intimate and you can actually have a conversation. Visit- you won't go wrong!"

  • "I went there on a first date and by request they sat us in a quiet corner. the Tuna tartar appetizer was excellent and then I had the Hamachi Jalapeno roll and the Chipotle Salmon and they were both excellent."

  • "GREAT food. Relaxed, easy setting. Nice wine list, sake, beer and drinks. Easy parking - out go-to for healthy sushi if we don't feel like cooking."

  • "I have been to this restaurant a few times and it never disappoints. I was there to meet for drinks and my friends who had never been there loved the atmosphere and the food was divine. "

  • "One of our favorite date night restaurants. Reliably good food, knowledgable and professional staff, interesting menu. A bit difficult if you are paleo, but they will accommodate special requests."

  • "So glad to have found another sushi restaurant my husband and I really love. It has a very charming outdoor area, great wine, really good food, good service and the like. We greatly enjoyed our dinner here and will be back soon."

  • "The ambience is fine and the food is very good. There are some dishes that are excellent and one or two out of the 10 we ordered as a group that just were really bad so it is hit or miss. Don't rely on the servers for recs because that's what we did and those were the two really bad dishes. Go with what you really like to eat and don't be afraid to try things too. Overall good food, terrible parking options available, sketch neighborhood for restaurant, but good prices and had a good time in general."

  • "We have gone to Shokudo three times, all for special occasions. the staff is well informed, engaging and welcoming. we have sat outside each time, and we love the feeling out there. and now about the food.....it is amazing. the unique dishes are not just original to be different, but are created with a lot of thought and talent. we come with our young children who have tried some dishes for the first time with such enjoyment. they now love the yellowtail sashimi with jalapenos and they are obsessed with the ceviche in coconut milk. we will definitely go back."

  • "Peruse the menu before you go. It can be overwhelming. Food is terrific, the prices moderate , the patio charming but the service can be a bit slow. I will definitely return."

  • "Although the approach to and the location of this restaurant may make you wonder about its quality, let me assure you that the food will amaze you. The flavors, texture, composition and presentation is outstanding. It is well worth the trip from downtown Miami."

  • "We had seen this restaurant driving by and were curious to try it out. We went with another couple and all four of us had a great meal. The variety of food and the presentation were both very satisfying. The service was excellent; our waiter explained the various options and made very good recommendations. Will certainly go back and try other dishes. We had dinner inside but the patio on the back seems very attractive."

  • "We picked this place as our last night dinner at Miami. An excellent choice. We loved the food. We were visitors for Miami and not familiar the area. Seemed to be far off place during evening time."

  • "Everything was great, 16 people is hard to manage but our server did exceptional. The sushi was a treat, however the pad thai needed a little improvement. Our vegan members liked the noodles but thought it needed more veggies. Definitely going back, we were inside but the patio looked very cool and casual, have to try that next time. Also there is a very cool small bar in the back off the patio, very cool. Coconut Grover Foodys!"

  • "Had a wonderful time at this restaurant. The staff was helpful but not pushy and they seemed to really care that you enjoyed yourself. The food was outstanding and the ambiance was very romantic. We ate outside and have a really lovely time. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "This was my third time at Shokudo. Unfortunately they have reduced their menu :( Food is still great quality but for a Saturday night is was practically empty. Service was not good. The place was empty and the server kept on rushing us to get the order. Had to ask him several times that we would call him when ready. As soon as we ordered appetizers he wanted to take all our menus away and just leave one to pick our main course, party of 5 sharing one menu?! that was bizarre. Waiter was careless when picking things up from the table, dropping all the sauce on the table. I'm not sure if I will go again, it was a bit of a disappointment that after two other very good experiences this one was pretty bad."

  • "We didn't know about this place as its just north of the design district but the food and place is EXCELLENT!!!! Everything we ordered was amazing and the outdoor seating area is beautiful. A must visit if looking for Asian food near design district!"

  • "This is a terrific new Asian restaurant--modern, but not cold, friendly but not pretentious. Most importantly, the food was terrific--fresh, well-prepared and with high quality ingredients. The server was both knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Valet parking is reasonable ($4), and I recommend it unless you find a space right in front, as the neighborhood is still somewhat marginal. We will be returning."

  • "great fresh food. portions were a little small. great variety of dishes. fantastic service"

  • "Thir restaurant tried to get too many Asian cuisines right to succeed and any one. The sushi was adequate, Korean barely pasable (Bimimbap was only fair). Banchan are usually included at Korean restaurants but here, each is $3.00 and the portions were very small. Cannot recommend this place. Try a real Korean restaurant instead. The service was very marginal at this restaurant. Don't expect things to be done in a timely fashion or without speaking up to someone rushing by."

  • "This is the second time I go to Shokudo. The food is excellent. They have a varied and flavorful menu. Their sashimi is fresh, dumplings are to die for and the main course are outstanding. I have the ice cream for dessert, green tea and red bean are very unique and have a perfect flavor. They come wrapped in rice paper. I would definitely go again, there are many things on their menu that I still want to try. Service was friendly and attentive."

  • "We've lived along the "upper east side" of Miami for years now and have seen lots of culinary ventures come and go. Shokudo is a great addition to the Design District area of Miami and extends the trend of an accessible neighborhood vibe mixed with culinary smarts."

  • "The hostess and the servers were really nice, and as my wife entered the restaurant the chef greeted her at the podium and took her wet raincoat. At the time, she did not realize he was the chef, whose background includes Boulevard in San Francisco and Daniel in NYC. We loved everything that we ordered which consisted of: Dragon Roll NY Spicy Tuna Roll Octopus Tiradito Salmon Sushi Hamachi Sushi We each had a glass Estancia Chardonnay for only $3.25 per glass during Happy Hour which lasts until 7:30 pm. Next time, we will keep trying different menu items because so many other dishes on the menu looked delicious. Valet parking attendant was top notch."

  • "Shokudo successfully offers a variety of Asian foods: dumplings(including curry potato ... a must!), folded "bun" appetizers, skewers of foods, sushi & crudo, main courses (incl. a variety of noodles). Everything at Shokudo has a made-to-order taste. Good stock of ethnic wines and beers as well."

  • "A fusion delight for your taste buds. Knowledgable friendly staff. In the Miami Design District so close to other haunts. Best thing to do is order many items a few at a time for all to enjoy. Explore....get loose on their really good Saki & Passion fruit YUM."

  • "I loved World Resource so I'd been wanting to go here for a while. First off, it's in a really bad area. It was my night to pick the restaurant and when we got there my boyfriend told me he used to do yoga right next door and apparently cars used to get broken into all the time. On top of that, the food is only ok. If it was close to my building I might go there to eat occasionally, but I don't see myself ever driving back over there for just "meh" food."

This restaurant is in my list of new favorite places to go for quality food in a Very nice environment. Even met the owner :)"
